Nestled in the misty foothills of Mt Read, you’ll be camping among giant tree ferns and ancient myrtle trees in one of the most atmospheric landscapes in Tasmania. The Ultimate Waterfall Access Skip the crowded car parks! You are just a 15-minute walk from the trailhead of the world-famous Montezuma Falls. Follow the historic tramway route to Tasmania’s highest single-drop waterfall (104 m) and cross the iconic suspension bridge. Mining History at Your Doorstep Step back in time to the days of the Hercules Mine. The area is scattered with relics of the North East Dundas Tramway and the incredible haulage systems that once defined this rugged mountain terrain. Guest Requirements & Access Vehicle Access: The site is easily accessible for campers, caravans, and RVs. Whether you are in a small van or towing a larger rig, you can reach this rainforest hideaway without trouble. Self-Contained Only: To help preserve this pristine environment, all guests must be fully self-contained. This means you must bring your own portable camp toilet and manage your own grey water. Leave No Trace: Please take all rubbish with you. There are no waste facilities on-site. Water Warning: While the West Coast is famous for its rain, local creeks can contain heavy metals due to the area's mining heritage. Please bring all your own potable water for drinking and cooking. Pets: Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead to protect local wildlife. (Note: Dogs are also allowed on-lead at the Montezuma Falls track.)Please leave room
