Thornton Lookout Camp

100%

RV/tent site · Sleeps 6 · Vehicles under 9 m
Perched on one of the highest vantage points on our 830-acre private nature refuge, Thornton Lookout Camp offers one of the refuge's most spectacular outlooks. With sweeping views across valleys and rugged mountain ranges, it's the perfect place to slow down, reconnect with nature and experience the beauty of the Scenic Rim. Access is via a well-maintained property road. Before reaching the campsite, there is one steep, winding section best suited to 4WD vehicles. Confident 2WD drivers may still be comfortable driving this section in suitable dry conditions. Once you arrive, the campsite opens into two natural levels, with the lower lookout area offering the panoramic views that make this site so special. The lower lookout campsite is best suited to two vehicles or one small 4WD camper trailer. The upper clearing provides additional space for extra vehicles or tents, making it ideal for families or small groups travelling together. A public walking trail nearby leads into the adjoining national park for those wanting a challenge. Every guest is provided with a mud map of the refuge's walking tracks, making it easy to explore the property's diverse landscapes and scenic viewpoints. Keep an eye out for the elusive brush-tailed rock-wallaby, abundant native birdlife and, on occasion, a wandering dingo. Being one of the highest campsites on the refuge, Thornton Lookout Camp can occasionally experience strong winds, so we recommend bringing sturdy camping gear and securing your setup. Self-sufficient off-grid campsite: BYO camp or bucket toilet. No water or bins provided—please take all rubbish with you. Bring your own firewood. Collecting timber or fallen branches is not permitted, as they provide essential habitat and nutrients for the refuge's ecosystem. Please respect the land and follow Leave No Trace principles to help us protect this special place for future generations.
