Stonesthrow is a 106 acre rural property in the peaceful Illinbah Valley. Nestled between Beechmont and Canungra, we are just an hour - a stones throw - from the Gold Coast or Brisbane. Over the decades, the property has been used to farm goats, train racing camels and spell racehorses. It's now a family hobby farm and a bush camping venue. We currently have two dogs, a handful of cows, horses, goats and some friendly donkeys who love to meet new people for some pats and a carrot! We offer a choice of (unpowered) sites, ranging from elevated with views of the valley, or closer to the beautiful shallow creek that meanders its way through the property. ELEVATED SITES have stunning views of the valley and are the preferred choice for the free range horses and cows to spend their time. These sites are only accessible by capable 4WD and require you to bring your own chemical camping toilet and ensuite tent which we sight on arrival. Check-in must be during daylight hours to enable safe access. These sites are not suitable for caravan access. LOWER SITES are closer to the creek and to facilities such as toilets, a powered shed, kettle, microwave, fridge and a sink. Most of these sites offer 2WD access yet still facilitate the experience of camping in the bush. Friendly dogs are welcome and must be kept on a lead when in close proximity to the cottage and other campers. So we are able to allocate you the most suitable site, when submitting a booking request please include your vehicle make &model, camping setup (tent/swag/4WD camper trailer/caravan etc) and number of occupants (adults, children, dogs) . Include your preference for an elevated or lower site (please note, the availability of certain sites is weather dependant). Other things to note: • Exploration of the property is welcome by foot or bicycle: 1.2 km from bottom to top. • We are not a 4WD adventure park. Vehicles must be left at your campsite and NOT used to explore the property. • No 'day visitors' are allowed unless they have an approved booking through Hipcamp. • Phone reception is patchy. • Firewood is available for purchase on site. Cash preferred. • This is a Leave No Trace campground - ensure what you bring in, leaves with you. • Fires must be properly extinguished prior to departure.Stonesthrow Bush Camping suits self-contained 4WD campers with camper trailer/tent. Campsites should be selected based on weather, personal preference and size required. Bring all that you need and remove all rubbish upon leaving. All sites are unpowered. Access to power, camp kitchen (including fridge and water) and portaloos are available at the 'Shearing Shed' (common area). The property is very private, offering peace of mind and security. When booking - please read the property rules carefully.  Dogs are welcome however we ask that you please discuss this with us first.

We had the most incredible time on Steve & Richard’s land! The site was spacious, peaceful, and surrounded by stunning natural beauty. The open field was perfect for camping, and waking up to horses grazing nearby was magical. We cooked over an open fire, grilled skewers, and laughed late into the night under a starry sky. The property offered the perfect blend of nature, privacy, and good vibes. The hosts were welcoming and everything was well-maintained. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax, reconnect, and enjoy unforgettable memories with friends!

I have been there a vew times. Getting away from the city life, have cows and horses around you and the beautiful views makes it all amazing. The owners are caring and very kind. I will be back plenty more times.

This place is great. Been a couple of times now and will return again. Plenty of space between camps and fire pits provided. Steve is a great host, gives detailed directions and shows you too your site.

We stayed at Eagles Nest in our rooftop tent. It was so quiet, listening to lots of birds and had a visit by the 4 cows. Had a little fire pit and a great time for our 29th Wedding Anniversary. It was the second time at Stonesthrow and we’ll definitely be back

Lots of lovely different spots to camp at depending on what you’re looking for. Steve was super helpful and accommodating, we arrived late (after sundown) and Steve walked us to a spot that was small and enclosed with bush, we had loads of privacy and the creek running along side our campsite. The perfect getaway

We have been here a handful of times now and each time is first class Could not ask for friendlier or more communicative hosts. Eagles nest is stunningly private and while it does not have the big view of other sites here it is no less beautiful

Even in the rain it was lovely. Bonus points for the toilets that were actual toilets and despite being the composting type they didn't stink too much so I see that as a win :). Very close to Cunungra but you'd never know as there is no traffic or noise or visibility to the road. Friendly hosts and we'd love to go back. The microwave is no longer in the communal area as it was misused which is a shame because I'd have used it. It was very nice that water was available though and everything you'd need was either right there or easy to get.

We loved camping at ‘big view’ campsite at Stonesthrow. Although we had on and off wet weather, we still had the beautiful views on this amazing land. Steve and Richard are warm and welcoming and very happy to answer any questions or help with anything you need. The horses and cattle were a highlight, keeping us company as we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We will definitely be making a trip back to Stonesthrow.

Loved our stay at Stonesthrow, easy to find, host explained everything well before our arrival and was there to greet us, not many others staying on site so was nice and quiet and very private. Can’t fault it will definitely come back here with a chemical toilet so we can stay up top to get the views. We stayed on the other side of the creek, it was nice and flat and could definitely see us coming back with a crew around the existing fire pit. Needed to grab another bag of wood through the night which we were able to do and leave money for the host. Loved all the animals on the property, the big white horses gave us a bit of a fright during the night coming down the hill in the night but they moved on quickly. Look forward to our next stay here!!

We absolutely loved camping at Stonesthrow! Steve and Richards land is amazing and they are super friendly! We had a beautiful campsite next to the creek and our puppy enjoyed playing with the dogs and our little one enjoyed hanging out with Richards little daughter. Richard and Steve property was beautiful! We stayed by the creek under some trees, it was so nice and quite, we loved patting the donkeys and horses. All the sites we drove or walked past were beautiful! I can't wait to come back and stay at the campsite called Plateau the views up there were amazing Thanks again guys Cheers Erica and Declan

We loved staying at Stonesthrow! Steve met us on arrival and found us a great campsite. There were other campers around but we had a huge space all to ourselves. Facilities were clean and well kept. Our kids (ages 4 and 6) had a great time exploring the creek, riding their bikes and playing footy. A great weekend getaway.
