I was told that as I journeyed around Australia I would find a place to settle and Maryvale on the Darling Downs was love at first sight. I am happy to share my love for this property and welcome travellers to enjoy the tranquillity of the riverside and enjoy some of the walks and other features of the area. Welcome to She-oak Hideaway, located in Maryvale by the riverside. The riverside is a peaceful place with two large camping areas and firepits. There are 2 large waterholes suitable for swimming, fishing and kayaking. Down by the riverside you will see Water dragons, ducks, swamp hens, many birds, occasional Wallabies and Koala. Most afternoons the local Rikali (Australias Otter) can be seen diving for Yabbies. We are an 11 minute drive to the very popular Main range national Park which has some beautiful hiking trails and is the perfect place for a picnic. We have a great country pub close by as well which is a short walk down a country lane. Pets are welcome but please ensure they are under your control and that you clean up after them. Campers must be self sufficient with their own toilet. Rubbish bins are provided for campers and a treated rain water tap is available. Kayaks and life jackets are available on request. 1 10 Amp power connection is also available on request. Please contact me for early arrival time.Welcome to She-Oak Hideaway, located in Maryvale by the riverside. The riverside is a peaceful place with two large camping areas, campfires and hot plates. The sites are flat with plenty of space to maneuver vehicles. There are 2 large waterholes suitable for swimming, fishing and kayaking.  Down by the riverside you will see Water dragons, turtles, ducks, swamp hens, many birds, Rakali, plus occasional Wallabies and Koala.  Rakali, a native water-rat - (Australia's otter) can often be seen collecting Yabbies and mussels then returning to the river bank to enjoy the feast. There are plenty of Yabbies in the creek and try your luck at fishing for silver perch and catfish. PLEASE DO NOT USE CLOSED TRAPS AS THESE HAVE DROWNED WATER DRAGONS, RAKALI AND TURTLE! Please enquire about open top traps I have available. The more adventurous can cross the creek and take the lane into Maryvale for a 20min walk each way.  Pets are welcome but please ensure they are under your control and that you clean up after them. Campers must be self-sufficient with their own toilet.  An annex and Thunder box is available on request. A rubbish bin is provided for campers and a treated rain water tap is available. 4 kayaks and life jackets are available on request.  Arrival and departure times can be flexible, Please contact me for more information. Please be aware that the peace is often disturbed by the laughter of the kookaburra, the song of butcher birds, the chatter of noisy minors and sounds from the road which is barely noticable down by the creek. Your Hosts, Paul and Cheryl wish to make your stay enjoyable and will be here to assist wherever we can.

Lots to do
Paul was welcoming and there were a lot of thoughtful options in the camp sites for guests to use. Canoe's to use in the creek which the kids loved, we did catch one fish also. Todem tennis pole, horse shoes etc. There is a solar powered electric hook up on offer, it lasted well most nights, but even with full sun and only running a fridge and charging a few phones, cut out on our 3rd night. It was kind of hinted that extra money was expected to use it when talking to Paul, but it wasn't listed as such on hipcamp, Paul might just want to make that clearer so check with him. It was great to have the bins provided and he will bring down a large wheelbarrow of firewood for $20 which was a great price and saved us tracking wood down. There are two sites, within easy vision of each other, but a decent distance apart so not to have to interact. We camped in the right corner where the rapids were and the hill and bush which somewhat lessoned (well covered) the road noise, but it was still quite evident and especially in the other campsite. We got down to the river bank in our 22 foot van quite easily, but would not have tackled it in the wet. Overall a good experience and for the price with river access and power offered I would recommend it for families.

Loved it!
Paul's peaceful place was our first ever Hipcamp and we really enjoyed our stay. One other site was nearby but they weren't loud. Our dogs had an absolute ball exploring the creek. Paul made kayaks available which were fun and we loved just floating in our tubes. Camping in view of the swimming hole was peaceful and relaxing. We barely heard the noise from the hwy. Paul was friendly and welcoming. Will be back! 👍

Keep an eye on the river
It was a lovely spot but the last night was heavy rain and even though we had checked with the owner on arrival about the river and how high it came up and was assured we would be fine that was absolutely not the case. Thanks to the farmer next door looking for his sheep at 3:30am we were woken by his quad bike lights. Water was flowing quite fast through the camp and the river was rising extremely fast. We managed to pack up before the river got to us but it was very close. The farmer came down from next door and told us and another group to leave asap before it was too late. Not once did we see the owner who I would have though would have made sure we left if it wasn’t safe. It was just lucky we are light sleepers and vigilant on the risks of camping on a river. I have never seen water come up that fast and it could have had a very different outcome had it not been for their neighbour. Having said all of the above the grounds were well kept and clean.
