The Highfields Pioneer Village covers an area of 20 acres of picturesque grounds with over 70 buildings of historic interest, pleasant surroundings and picnic facilities. It is located just 15kms north of Toowoomba. Our property is part of the Highfields Pioneer Village* complex located just 20 minutes from Toowoomba. This campsite is a wonderful place to rest whilst taking in the scenic surroundings of the village which is the home of the Big Cow.  Visit the Toowoomba Fire Brigade Museum which houses an historic collection of memorabilia, documenting the story of the people who have worked every day to keep us safe from fires since 1877. The collection includes Uniforms, Badges & patches, historical records & photographs and over 6 Historic Fire Engine Vehicles, Apparatus, Models & Collectibles. Visit the iconic Ambulance Museum that tells the story of Ambulance services in Queensland. We are within easy reach of Highland Falls which has some great walking tracks and view points of the falls. Pets are also permitted in this bushland area but must be on a leash. We are just 3 mins from local shops, McDonald's, KFC. This is the perfect spot for those who want to wind down and escape the hustle and bustle. We have amenities available and pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times. Sorry, no campfires. Bush Camping. *Tickets to the Village are optional and can be purchased onsite from the Kiosk. Recommended time to view the Pioneer Village is at least 2 hours.

Highfields Pioneer Village
Trip back in time.
Perfect place to kick your feet up and unwind. Facilities are nice and clean and only a short walk from camp. The care takers are wonderful people and easygoing. I do suggest to try and stay around the last Sunday of each month as that’s when the village truely lights up with activities to do with the kids such as the mini steam train rides and some demonstrations within the village.

Camping with the Floofs -
What an experience! T'was cold and damp, but this camper was warm and toasty! A short walk to the bathroom facilities was bearable! I had my two floofs with me, and with the puppy playpen attached to my tent, they were quite satisfied with the outside, non lead option. I was visiting mum and dad, so I only slept at the site. Although, I treated mum and dad to a visit to the Pioneer Village and shouted afternoon tea of tea and damper (well... dad had Anzac biscuits!) Clean, quiet and comfortable ... Thanks for a great couple of days Guys!

Room for improvement
Overall, more pros than cons! A good stay. They have so much potential. POSITIVES; The camp area is easily found, spacious and located next to a fenced field with friendly horses that come to say hello. There is a toilet and shower available which is always a positive when camping. There is a museum available 10am-4pm and tickets can be purchased on site. We missed out on seeing the museum as we arrived/left outside those hours during our one night stay. NEGATIVES; The directions on HipCamp say that you’ll be greeted by hosts on arrival, however we arrived and waited with no host to be found. I called the number and got told to find a spot on the grass. I believe the instructions should be to go direct to camp. The description also claims “Laundry available”, which is misleading. Every stay I’ve had that advertised a laundry has an allocated washing machine and dryer in a clearly labelled laundry room. When I asked, I got told they have a washing machine inside their cafe and are happy to throw a load on for me, however there is no dryer. I ended up having to drive into town and paid for a laundromat. The toilet was good, but the shower was not. It has a 3 minute timer restriction and is unhygienic and full of cobwebs. A regular amenities clean, a laundry and offering power/hose-water would bring this stay from average to awesome very easily. Thank you for a nice stay, but please take on our constructive criticism. All the best!

Highfields Pioneer Village
The campsite itself is just a random bit grass field out the back of the old museum village, that said the kids had a great time playing around in the the little train station area and it helped that there were other kids there also. Nice horses in the field next door and ammenities were clean and tidy. Close to a few walks and waterfalls and only 15 mins into the Toowoomba town centre for more parks and shops.
