Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Hidden Gem is a 600-acre cattle property just a stone's throw from Kilkivan and only three hours from Brisbane. We are a working cattle farm with wide-open valleys and beautiful hills and ridges that beckon explorers. The peace and quiet here will fill your soul. Guests are welcome to walk the property or fish in one of the farm dams. Swimming and paddling are perfect on a hot day, or simply relax and watch wedge-tailed eagles soaring overhead and shy whiptailed wallabies grazing nearby. If you’re observant, you might even spot a koala dozing in a tree. Our accommodation is a quaint old shearer’s shack — The Shack — lovingly refurbished and now featuring indoor amenities including a kitchenette, shower, and flush toilet. It comfortably sleeps 4–6 people, with extra camp beds available for larger groups or two families holidaying together. The open-plan space features polished hardwood floors, comfortable furniture, and a cozy fireplace perfect for chilly winter nights. Outside, there’s a firepit with firewood provided. There’s no electricity at The Shack, but solar lights, a solar-powered fridge, gas hot water, a gas BBQ, and a small gas stove ensure all the essentials are covered. Mobile reception is patchy — we encourage guests to put their phones aside, unwind, and let the outside world drift away while you reconnect with nature. Dogs are welcome but must be secured at all times. There’s a dog-proof fence around The Shack, but it is the guests’ responsibility to ensure pets remain within the fenced area or on a lead when walking on the property. The Shack is situated on our 600-acre cattle property with easy access from the entrance gate. The site covers approximately 1/4 acre and is surrounded by a dog proof fence. Amenities include indoor toilet and shower; kitchenette; solar fridge; gas BBG and separate two ring gas burner; solar lighting. There is no electricity and very patchy mobile reception. The shack can sleep 6 comfortably but can have additional beds added to a maximum of 8 guests. There are 2 double beds, 2 single beds and we can add another 2 camp beds. In addition to The Shack accommodation, if guests wish to bring their own caravan and/or tents they are welcome to do so and set them up within the site boundary. Activities include walking; bicycle riding; swimming and fishing in the dams; bird watching; star gazing; relaxing and enjoying the quiet. No motorised vehicles are allowed outside the Site boundary. Guests will be met on arrival and given a map of the property and shown where activities are accessed. For safety reasons, guests will not be allowed to access the paddock where the cattle are grazing and, as this changes continually, the restricted areas will be discussed on arrival.
