CHOOKHOUSE FARMSTAY Checkins after 9am Things we can't provide: *Water for your caravan *Firewood *Drinking water Things we can offer: *Old school camp stay *old school pit toilets *friendly staff *plenty of space to have your tent/caravan/rv van/swag and your vehicles *fire pits *feeding the animals from 4 till 5pm *checkout anytime between 6am till 3pm Animals you can meet & feed: Panda, Jilly, Bully and baby Patches(our moo moos), Betc the goat who loves attention cuddles and brushing, Dorper Sheep and lambs, Peacocks literally everywhere, mixed CHICKENS, Miss Piggy-will sit for you especially if you have food, alpacas, (coming soon-guinea pigs and quails for kiddies to play with and feed) The Chookhouse is situated approximately 20 minutes south of Toowoomba, 10mins from Drayton where there is a small shopping complex. Please note that there are other dogs and animals in the area. We also have loud grain trains that pass by throughout the day and night. When you are travelling on Shepperd Road look for our "Chookhouse Farm" sign and a chook mailbox, that is the driveway you need to take. Drive up to the sign and call number on sign. Please wait for staff member to come out and greet you in your car. LONG TERM RENTALS AVAILABLE TALK TO THE TEAM FOR MORE INFORMATION Amenity block with hot water and flushing toilets for those booked in Pepperina. ADULTS ONLY STRICTLY NO CHILDREN. LIMITED SITES. Top Paddock power, Top Paddock powered and Paddock Camp unpowered we have gas camp style showers (preset temperature for the safety of children). THERES 2 PIT SHOWERS, HOWEVER NOT ALWAYS WORKING. There are also 3 x BUSH/PIT toilets in the camp areas. In each camp area we have 3 x rubbish bins. Plenty of room for self-contained caravans/motorhomes and places to pitch a tent or camper. National Parks, walking trails, Wineries, Gourmet Pubs and Restaurants, Markets, two magnificent parks with play areas for children and so many other points of interest to see and discover. Being in a rural area we have strict guidelines for campfires. We follow all Local Government guidelines and the QFS. No blazing fires, all fires to be extinguished at night, no coals or ash to be left under trees or on the grass. We will pick up each morning coals and ash if required.

OR Bring your own shower tent (we can supply you with bore water for your Solar shower bags if needed); we do have long drop toilets that you can use. We do have a camp shower with HOT water if you need it. Kids bring your bikes and ride around in a safe area. Take advantage of our large fire pit. Close to community area, far enough away so you are not disturbed. WE DO NOT HAVE DRINKING WATER AVAILABLE - we do have bore water however you must boil it first.

Camp site was shaded and grassy. There seemed to be a few long term residents that socialised together. They use language that young people don’t need to hear while camping. Also one of the males like to shower in the female bathroom where his wife and him have very inappropriate conversations that can be heard in the male toilets.

We had such a wonderful stay at Rob’s place! From the moment we arrived, Rob made us feel welcome and at ease. He’s an amazing human being, very kind and easy-going. One of the highlights was definitely feeding the animals with Rob, which I highly recommend. It was such a unique and memorable experience. The facilities are excellent as well. The toilets were spotless, and the hot shower were perfect after a day outdoors. Everything was clean, well maintained, and clearly looked after with care. We left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and grateful for the experience. Thank you Rob for your hospitality. We’ll definitely be back!

We were looking for a camp close to town for our first trip, in case something went wrong. This ticked all the boxes. Daughter loved the animals, 8 mins from town with basic requirements. We had neighbours, but didn't hear from them & Rob is a good bloke.

Long Term Stay: Nick
If you are looking for somewhere long-term to stay, Chookhouse Farmstay is not that place. While Rob was friendly and helpful during the first week, we soon became aware of his aggressive approach to demanding increased site fee payments, and his rampant alcoholism. During our stay, the owner: - Set up cameras pointed at our site and did not disclose them. - Looked into our caravan windows when he thought we weren’t there - Made me feel so uncomfortable that I was scared to leave my van without my husband with me for protection. - Ran sheep through the long term caravan site area. A sheep got tangled in our annex ropes and damaged our van. - Constantly threatened to increase our site fee to double what was initially agreed on. - Was caught tampering with our water and electricity lines. Other issues: - There were constant blackouts where the not-to-code power grid would trip. - The animals are kept in squalor and Miss Piggy has obvious signs of neglect. - The amenities are a health hazard. Raw sewerage comes up the shower drain and sinks in the men’s bathroom when you flush and you can smell the septic tank around the whole area around pepperina. The owner stood in front of our car to physically block us from leaving when we had finally had enough and were about to leave. On paper, it is a lovely place and the other (rapidly dwindling) long-term residents are lovely. This place may have been a good place to stay once, but it isn’t anymore.

The host is an old drunk and all animals are not looked after the pigs hooves. Overgrown long drops are needing cleaning outside, showers don’t work, nor did, I have enough privacy and initially not a good place to be running late to shut down. I witnessed a doll, another dog on the property, rip apart a dash dash hound, a baby dachshund and 18 chooks this place is not recommended. It needs to be shut down.

Wonderful stay! We stayed here for the Tiny House Expo (which was fantastic by the way!) and this location was great because you were a short drive to the middle of town, but you also felt away enough to enjoy the scenic farm escape. So many farm animals to feed and enjoy, plenty of space on your site (we were also there on an off season and we had the place to ourselves so we’re spoilt for choice with space), close in location to showers and toilet, and of course the hosts (Rob) were so lovely and kind. Definitely recommend the Chookhouse stay, and will stay there again next time I’m in Toowoomba!

Great little spot for our Easter family get together. Kids loved feeding the farm animals and learning about them. Mrs Piggy was a big highlight. Toilets were fine, our shower didn't have hot water but it wasn't a big issue. Close enough to town to run up and get things we forgot. Overall we really enjoyed joyed our stay.

We love the campsite at Chookhouse Farmstay! The place is perfect for camping. The grass is at excellent conditions and it is very spacious. Although we arrived a little late to feed the animals, they made a booking for us and they allowed us to feed the animals. It was a wonderful experience! We needed a break from work and University and the place was perfect for that! All the people were very kind. We will definitely come back😊

Nice spot, people about the place seem nice. Toilets are feral. I avoided the make shift shower and had one at the next camp site. Over all, it was a nice experience but because of the ammenities I don’t think it’s worth $27 a night when you can book sites with standard toilet/shower blocks (that are clean) for $30-$33.

Easy to find and close location to Toowoomba. Safe and secure location to leave van and day trip or for storage. Powered sites are close to other buildings and structures. Farm stay minimal animals compared with other similar locations. Other people living on the same sight with multiple residences. Communication with owner a bit hit and miss. Overpriced for the experience.

Absolutely amazing location! The hospitality from Rob and staff was over and beyond! The farm is filled with exploring and learning! Amenities were beautiful and we do in the bush run across problems but rob and the team were on to any and all issues any camper had;) will be back again 💯❤️ thank you for the experience

Overall we had a good time as we had friends there with us and we have a good non-powered set-up. BUT - there was no hot/warm shower, the toilet facility was disgusting and the Top Paddock is a windy, road-noisy place. The toilet had dried faeces running down the shute, it was smelly, old toilet rolls were still in a basket and there was no hand sanitiser or air-freshener provided. The toilet door also has gaps between the wooden slats so that at night-time, if you're using a torch inside, then anyone outside can see what you're doing :-0 Feeding the animals was a rip off - we paid $5 to watch other people's children feed the pig and goats with mouldy old bread. There were guinea fowl and chickens to feed but adults weren't offered food to feed, only the kids. Over 3 days we didn't have a warm shower as Top Paddock had a battery issue, we were promised a new one by the Sunday, but it never happened. There was water available to the shower but the gas couldn't heat it as the battery was dead. I believe this has been the situation since July, now reading other reviews. The place is rundown, filled with various characters living in squalor, and looks like a shanty town. If you have a van and are self-sufficient then it's an ok place to use as a stop-over for a night or two, but there is no drawcard like a river, stream, good facilities or peace and quiet like advertised. Sorry, we are never coming back.

Our stay here was the last night of our 6 week trip and we had imagined a relaxed evening with a fire reminiscing with friends about the trip. We arrived and the kids enjoyed the animal feeding. Then the big dogs keep barking all afternoon/evening and wouldn’t stop. The road was very close so not the quiet country feel I imagined and we couldn’t have a fire due to a fire ban. The toilet and shower situation is just appalling and it’s definitely not worth the high price we paid!

Overall we had a good time but it could have been much better. The property needs repairs and the amenities are disgraceful. No hot water, no water, dirty old toilet seat, stinky long drop, not enough privacy as the toilet door has gaps between the palings. Top Paddock is next to a busy road where we heard cars, trucks and even the train rushing past and it was very windy. We paid $5 to feed the animals but only watched the little kids feed the pigs and chooks some bread. Wow, what an experience! :-( Sadly, we were very disappointed and will not return nor recommend this Hipcamp.

Big flat site outside Toowoomba city. Close enough to go explore the city. Animal feeding fun. However the shower was very dirty and broken not ever cleaned or repaired while we were there. Drop toilet ok but could do with a clean and no toilet paper.No water. Overall good if self sufficient as we were, yet very expensive for what you get.

We were quite disappointed & would not recommend for a number of reasons. It’s advertised as a farm stay & it didn’t feel like that at all. The site was metres away from both a busy road and the neighbours which had 4 dogs that literally barked non-stop until 10.30pm. The drop toilet didn’t smell which was a bonus but the make-do shower was absolutely filthy & we were the only guests there at that time so clearly it hadn’t been cleaned that day. We did the animal feeding & were very upset to see that all of the animals are fed bread which can make them sick & the female pig could barely walk as her hooves had not been trimmed for quite some time. It was really sad to see. It seems to be a quick way to make some money with no care given for the animals or those staying.

Fawlty Towers of Camping World

This was our second visit to the Chookhouse farm stay. First time was great (2yrs ago) this time it was the Fawlty Towers of camping. Out of 4 days - no hot shower for 3 of them - the showering facility was not fit for a dog wash - it was disgusting. 6 other campers came and went - because of the showering facilities. Last time we visited there was proper showering & toilet amenities - but we were not allowed access this time as they have limited it for permanent residents only. There was only a drop toilet with no where to wash your hands. No sink or kitchen facilities for washing up. Paid for a fire pit and it disappeared after day 3. Big Dogs (6 of) next door constantly barked non-stop 24/7. Site also flooded from overflow of bore water tank that was beside our camp. Very disappointing as it is a great location - however that is the last time we will ever be back.

We have stayed at many hipcamps over the years. This one takes the cake for all the wrong reasons. Owners barking dogs (four) all night and the road noise. But for me it was being told to put our camper right between two other vans when there was a whole paddock of room. Place is run down and full of people who have there permanent caravans there (dodgey) Just keep driving.

Amazing hosts, beautiful property, and great facilities. My kids loved being involved in letting the sheep out to pasture, the very friendly cows and the gated children’s play area. I would highly recommend property and will be staying with them whenever I am in the area
