Barron River Getaway
We had the pleasure of staying at Judy and Don's property two years ago, and we such an amazing experience that returned this year with our student group. Our hosts were warm and inviting, and with a large and lush lawn overlooking the Barron River, it was the perfect place for our student group to spread out. We enjoyed watching the abundant birds and marsupials on the property, swimming in the river, and sitting around the campfire while having enriching cultural exchanges with our hosts and the guests they brought. Don and Judy don’t just know the local history, they’re a part of it, and have played an important role in making Kuranda what it is today. We are so grateful for the hospitality and flexibility they showed us, and their farm is a great place for any group gathering. We highly recommend it.

What a special little gem of a campsite .. our site had tap water and power , and plenty of room for our ute and camper trailer setup . Peaceful river with sandy bank is only 50 m down some steps. Kayaks, canoes and sun lounge are provided too . Judy and Don are great hosts and very welcoming onto their picturesque property ... not our first time here and we will be back again and again. VERY hard to beat !

Barron River Getaway
Two years ago we stayed at the Barron River Getaway and we had such an incredible time that we decided to return. Same as before, we had an amazing experience staying on Judy and Don’s property. Our hosts were warm and inviting, and with a large and lush lawn overlooking the Barron River, it was the perfect place for our student group to spread out. We enjoyed watching the abundant birds and marsupials on the property, swimming in the river, and sitting around the campfire while having enriching cultural exchanges with our hosts and the guests they brought. Don and Judy don’t just know the local history, they’re a part of it, and have played an important role in making Kuranda what it is today. We are so grateful for the hospitality and flexibility they showed us, and their farm is a great place for any group gathering.

Loved the location. Easy to get there and a beautiful stop. The host Judy is lovely. Couldn't have been happier. Quiret stop surrounded by rain forest. Manicured camping sites with drinkable water. No bindies. In the grass so had a shoeless weekend. Would be great for little children.

Judy and Don were wonderful hosts allowing us to share their fabulous property.
The tranquility of the river, the stars and the sounds of the property were magnificent. There is an easy obtainable little beach to have a quick dip in.
There was plenty of fish in the river (bream) for those that feel inclined.
What a wonderful place to unwind

We absolutely loved it here so much that we extended our stay! Close enough to enjoy the Cairns and kuranda attractions, but oh so nice and peaceful to sit back and unwind. Kids spent all their spare time on the river fishing or kayaking in the provided kayaks. Hosts were welcoming and shared their amazing life stories. Water and power was supplied, but the site was sunny enough that our solar kept up and power wasn't needed. Water tasted amazing!! We travel a lot and the kids said this was their favourite place so far!!

Lovely camp site beside the Barron River. Lovely welcoming hosts who have so many amazing life stories. Kids were welcomed and spent their spare time fishing and kayaking on the provided kayaks. Water and power was available, toilet was clean. Drinking water tasted amazing!! Close enough to do all the attractions and visit beaches, but a nice quiet spot to unwind afterwards. We travel a lot and feel this was one of our most favourite places!

We came with just a simple tent,
No fancy gear, just hearts content.

There's even a private beach area with kayaks available—ideal for peaceful paddling sessions on the river.
The true highlight, however, is the warm hospitality of Don and Judy. Their stories of travelling the Eastern continents and their surprising connection to the birth of Goa Trance music are not to be missed. Their rich history and welcoming spirit add a uniquely personal touch to the stay.
As seasoned travellers, we wholeheartedly recommend this spot for anyone seeking relaxation, nature, and genuine connection.

Wow what a wonderful sanctuary We parked our little 13ft Hardkorr Caravan right down the end overlooking the river Beautiful!!! Hosts Judy and Don are a very welcoming warm couple and have many stories to tell of their adventures in life and helping many people along the way Thankyou for sharing your place with us and I would definitely recommend anyone travelling through Kuranda Stop over at this wonderful place See you again 😊🙏

We loved camper-trailing at Barron River Getaway. Site #3 had ample room for our camper and awning set up. The potable water on tap nearby was so convenient! Cooling breezes were experienced throughout the day and the river views were magnificent. The river was pleasantly shallow in places and clean, quiet and very peaceful. Canoes/kayaks were available for our use, along with picnic chairs and table and lounges by the river on a sandy beach area, courtesy of the Hosts.
Judy and Don are wonderful hosts, giving clear detailed directions to the Property, and a welcoming, informative meet and greet on arrival. We were given our Privacy, and Judy also checked on us a couple times throughout our 6day stay. It was just Magic! We did not want to leave! Hardly any bugs, and a small presence of marsh flies during our stay. Being only one hour drive from our home in Cairns, we will DEFINITELY be visiting this piece of paradise again.

Beautiful setting by the river with access to kayaks and canoes, and a great place to cool down with a swim. Amazing wildlife including wallabies and deers. Each site is easy to access and has its own campfire. Short drive to Kuranda for those wanting to check out the markets and tourist attractions. Very friendly and accomodating hosts who have created a beautiful paradise that campers have the great opportunity to experience! We’ll definitely be back!!

We had a great 2 night getaway with our family at Judy & Don’s place. The grounds are beautiful overlooking the Baron, perfect spot for the kids to explore the river & surrounds. We brought our own kayaks but there are canoes and kayaks on site to use, swings in a big tree for the kids and plenty of space to run around. Judy & Don were lovely hosts & we will definitely be returning again in the future :)

Awesome entry thru cattle farm with wild deer and wallabies. Excellent well spaced sites, all with a great view of the river and well maintained property. Welcomed by the most gracious hosts, Judy and Don. Which was one of the highlights of our stay Canoes and kayaks are supplied if required. Will definitely be back to visit this piece of secluded paradise and worth the trip to meet Judy and Don.

Judy et Don sont des hôtes très chaleureux et accueillants. Nous avons passé un magnifique séjour dans leur propriété, au plus proche de la nature et des animaux en liberté (wallabies, daims, chevaux, …). L’endroit est apaisant et paradisiaque. Eau et électricité étaient disponibles, ce qui nous a permis de passer un agréable séjour dans notre van. Je recommande vivement cet endroit calme, authentique, loin des attractions touristiques de Kuranda. Nous avons également opté pour un massage au coucher du soleil chez Debbie, un moment magique de bien-être et de détente. Un grand merci à tous les trois pour cette échappée belle !

One place you have to go to is La petit in Kuranda. Awsome.

Great scenery, open grassy sites, amazing huge area to relax down at the river. Only 4 sites, so no crowds, very peaceful. The host are very accommodating and friendly. We'll definitely be backnhere. When it's warmer this place is perfect.

What a magnificent property and awesome hosts. Would have to be one of the best hipcamps or farms stays anywhere. Right on the iconic Barron River, canoes, fishing and riverside relaxing wow. Judy and Don can’t do enough for you. Will definitely be back to stay.
