Welcome to Happy Farm - Bush Camp, a unique and real outback experience just 10 minutes from
Alice Springs and within easy reach of a number of great attractions. If you enjoy a casual, rustic, homely stay without all the frills and you value a family farm style vibe with a camp fire, a composting toilet, and a beautiful view then this is the place for you.
NOTE- It is a basic / primitive set up. Bring your own shade! Only shade is in the camp kitchen.
This is our own dream that we are building, and opening up for
you to experience.
The desert takes time to appreciate, the challenges and rewards
are slow to arrive and hard won.
We live on the property as a family of 4, and also have 3 others that live on the property and help us work and maintain the farm enterprises, and share this crazy life we live. They are all lovely characters.
We have lived in Alice Springs since 2004, but we moved onto and
started establishing the property in 2014, but the bush camp only started being established in July 2021. We have
2 sites, with all proceeds from campers going into
keeping the market garden operating, planting
the rear 2 acres native vegetation and improving campers
facilities. Camp 1 - does not have power. Camp 2 - is closer to the bush camp kitchen and has access to power. The camp kitchen is close to the outside shower and compost toilet.
Let’s be straight, this is not the place for people looking for manicured grounds and 5 star facilities, but it is for those that love a rustic camp with character.
SO, while we are being candid ...
it is a working market farm producing organic vegetables for Alice Springs, and we work during the day, so please don't be offended if we cut a conversation short and head off back to work. If you are interested in the farm project please consider supporting us by booking a tour.
ALSO, Animals:
we keep chickens for their eggs and meat, and pigs and goats for their meat.
The animals
are also kept in enclosures for a combination of easier management and their safety from predators. They also
make animal noises! Bees are kept near the main house for their pollinating talents and honey.
Some of
the pretty stuff and activities
...
We are located within easy reach of the West Macdonnell ranges there is endless walking trails to explore and beautiful gorges to visit and swim in.
Hiking: Alice Springs is the bounce off point to the Larapinta trail. We can help with car and equipment storage and transport.
Climbing: a local climbing site is within view of the property (Beware: Central Australian rock is not the most stable)
Mountain biking and trail running: Alice Springs has over 100km of single track. The best of the trails start 5-10km from the property.
Campfires are allowed in the fire pit provided and we have a composting toilet available for campers. Sorry, no pets.
