Kevin was such a great host — the tent was great, comfy bedding, beautiful property, fabulous nature trail.
Kevin even set us up a fire after our return from a great dinner in Tarboro. It was a beautiful, clear night and the stars and moon were breathtaking.
Just can’t say enough — we’ll definitely be visiting again!!

Oak Grove Retreat is truly a special place!!! I feel a profound sense of happiness and tranquility when I am there. The hosts consistently provide friendly service and create a welcoming atmosphere. The grounds are always well maintained, featuring beautiful moss covered trails, seasonal gardens and a lush forest. I have also enjoyed participating in several events there over the last few years and look forward to my next visit.

My first night solo camping and I couldn't have picked a better spot! I camped in the forest behind the church and it's beautiful and peaceful. Composting toilets (and an outdoor shower) are just a short walk away. Kevin was friendly and very helpful. I'll definitely stay again when I'm in the area.

There's so much to do here! From the garden, to the nature walk, to the hammocks, to the fire pits, to the chakra dance workshops and drum circles, there are seemingly limitless ways to destress and reconnect at the Oak Grove Retreat. I can't wait to come back!

This is truly a peaceful, beautiful place to camp and just be. The owners and everyone there are welcoming and helpful, they will treat you like family. Everything is so well thought out, including environmentally conscious facilities, places to meditate, a nature trail, and lots of fun, hippie art. The chapel is the best part, especially the light coming through the windows and the drums. Definitely planning on coming back, with more people next time. It truly feels like sacred ground.

My stay at Oak Grove Retreat far surpassed my expectations in every way! The location is near enough off of I95 so getting there was quick and made it the perfect to stop for the night to break up my drive south. The property has a few features I appreciated, particularly the composting toilet (a very nice one, I've seen many), the fire pit that was generously supplied with firewood (thanks again!), I had a magical moonlit stroll on the path through the woods before turning in. There is a beautiful old church building on the property that hosts a variety of interesting activities. Kevin was a friendly and attentive host. He made sure I had everything I needed, and made me feel quite welcome to enjoy the space. I would absolutely recommend this place, and recommend looking into the variety of community activities on offer as well.

Beautiful property! Great, peaceful stop between South Carolina and DC. Communicative host. Hula hoop class was extra bonus. Camping is a bit off the grid style but accommodating and well maintained. Delight is in the details.

What a unique experience! Kevin’s is a friendly helpful host and the property is AMAZING! Kevin invited me to come to a yoga class that was happening that evening in the church. I had such a wonderful time!

Kevin is an outstanding host. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. I used one of the glamping tents and was very comfortable. The outdoor shower is fantastic. I will definitely return for another stay. Overall very satisfied.

Oak Grove retreat is an amazing place ! We stayed two nights and it was a perfect fit for us and our 7months baby girl. A beautiful land, magic buildings and adorable hosts. We also met other visitors and enjoyed a beautiful fire all together ! Kids were so happy to spend some time together :)

The property is just so amazing! If you’re looking for a peaceful setting that’s right off of HWY 64, this is your spot. There is a short nature trail through the woods, a wonderful labyrinth, hammocks in strategic locations and above all, an atmosphere of pure peace and love. Yes, there are traffic sounds, but I’ve been able to ignore them for the most part. I just feel like this is an oasis that has been waiting for me for a long time. Kevin and his wife are very friendly and gracious people who are “real”. The composting toilets are clean and sufficient for getting the job done. I did not use the outdoor shower, but it was made available to me.

The glamping tent was awesome; very clean and comfortable with plenty of space to sit and enjoy. The restroom was well-maintained and kept clean, and the land was a pleasure. Kevin and Trish were very hospitable and helpful.

I tent camped with my two sisters, we needed a place to stay on our way to Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park (well worth visiting) the next day. Our hosts at Oak Grove Farm Woods greeted us, showed us around and explained everything clearly. The outhouse was clean and odor-free, there was a hand washing station as well as a warm water outdoor shower. We loved the hammocks and the open feeling of the property. There's lots to look at, and good places to just chill out. The road sounds were not objectionable at all. Slept soundly, woke up happy.

My weekend retreat at Oak Grove Retreat was such a magical weekend of meeting new amazing musicians and reconnecting with old friends. The land is absolutely enchanting with beautiful trees, flowers and wildlife. The labyrinth walk under the giant oak trees was the most peaceful experience. Kevin and Tricia rescued this special place on earth and nurture it for the rest of us to come and enjoy. The camping accommodations and especially the 2 “glamping” tents provide just what you need. I will definitely plan to go back again.

Beautiful grounds and helpful host.
Note it's not the big church you will pass first. It's just immediately before Howard. Hard to see the entrance at night. Owners do not necessarily answer the phone they have posted on their site so use the Hip Camp app to contact.

Wow, what a great time! What a wonderful experience!
Stayed for two nights with my wife and four young children. Near the end they were all begging to stay longer. Our hosts were welcoming, very accommodating and wonderful to talk with and learn from. We had the entire place to ourselves. Plenty of beautiful nature and forests for short walks / hikes. Large open fields for tossing frisbees, footballs or stargazing. When we crossed the Virginia state line to go back home our 9 year old son read the State motto and said "Virginia is for Lovers, and we LOVED that campsite!" what more is there to say? We look forward to returning :)

This was a great experience overall. The hosts are kind and welcoming. Sites are clean. The chapel is wonderful. Toilets are maintained and unoffensive.
The only real con that we experienced was some traffic noise at night when trying to sleep, so bring some ear plugs. A potential con, depending on how you like to camp, is that you'll be sharing a fire ring with whoever else is there.

A beautiful place to camp with nature trails and a beautiful church and very clean composting toilet. Didn't get a chance to explore much this time around, but hope to walk the nature trails next time! Not far from Rocky Mount also.
