ABOUT Zaytuna Farm Eco Hamlet is a highly active Permaculture demonstration site and has been used to teach permaculture to countless international and local students for the past 20 years. It is at the forefront of Permaculture Design, displaying many permaculture principles, and produces an abundance of food and various yields from within its living environment. Zaytuna Farm Eco Hamlet is a family friendly farm, situated on a sixty six acre (27 hectares) property that fronts Terania Creek opposite the village of The Channon, Northern NSW. The property is completely off-grid and contains 800m of creek frontage with fishing spots, a swimming hole for campers, and abundant wildlife ideal for bird watchers. Zaytuna Farm Eco Hamlet has recently become a community of 8 private residences that share this beautiful property. We kindly ask that campers respect the residents’ privacy, however if you spot them on the common grounds, they are always up for a friendly chat. CAMPSITE The campsite is situated on the communal grounds at the heart of Zaytuna Farm Eco Hamlet on flat lawn surrounded by bamboo and the sounds of the rainforest. We also have 10 raised camping shelters on offer, suitable for small tents for 1-2 people. Campers have close access to bathrooms built from eco-friendly shipping containers with composting toilets and warm showers; a fire pit, a kitchen garden to share from, an education/function center (available for hire), a common sheltered area to relax with wifi, and an equipped shared kitchen. OTHER NOTES We strictly have a no drug and alcohol policy. Due to our policy and customs, we kindly ask that no pork products enter the property, and that reasonably modest clothing is worn (shoulders down to knees covered is fine) including around the swimming hole. Please note this is not the place for partying, but a place for connecting with nature and nurturing wellbeing. We kindly ask that all rubbish is taken off the premise as there are no bins. Children 7 years and under stay free. We look forward to hosting you! We highly recommend visiting popular The Channon Markets on 2nd Sunday of each month for live music, entertainment, food and many stalls of handmade goodies at the Showgrounds for a family friendly day out! The Farm is 1 kilometer from the village of the Channon, 20km outside of Lismore in New South Wales, Australia. NEAREST AIRPORT Regional: Lismore, Coolangatta, Ballina, TRAIN STATION Casino (with bus service on to Lismore). BUS STOP The Channon NB: A limited service that runs Mon-Fri Pets not permitted.

I loved the quiet lush surroundings and the frog evening orchestra. The eco shower block was clean with lovely hot showers. We did the Farm tour with Dillon which I loved.

Me and my partner came in last minute, from Byron bay. Angela was super quick to respond. Very helpful too for firewood. The location wasn't far from Byron bay, maybe halfa?. There was heaps of cooking appliances and utensils, enough toilets and showers. Hot water didn't take long at all to heat up. Beautiful allocated camping area, shaded by bamboo trees. Soo pretty. Lots of tropical plants around. It was soo quiet overnight. Super respectful surrounding campers. I think it was $60 for the 2 of us in our van, for overnight stay. Would definitely come back. 😊 Thankyou

I didn't stay due to it felt unsafe. As a single female traveller, I wouldn't recommended at all. The facilities were clean. But wasn't worth the ordeal in finding the place. I never meet anyone staff but understand it is a working farm.

Covered platforms are great in keeping the rain off and the tent dry and mud free. The camping area itself is beautiful, surrounded by bamboo and wild flowers. Hot showers were lovely and very welcome after long days. The kitchen area was a bit unloved - little touches like some signage would go a long way to making the area feel more welcome. Eg which tap water is ok to drink (I now know it's all rainwater so it's fine), where to put recycling, the correct wifi password, how to light the stove, even a welcome sign! We were supposed to label our food, so providing some paper and pens would be useful. I had trouble lighting the gas cook top (the writeup said full working kitchen so I expected this to work), got told it wouldn't work, then someone else showed me how - it's actually not difficult once you have instructions. An area labeled "Free food" would also be useful for things that previous people no longer need, instead of it being randomly scattered around the kitchen (I was there for a week and no one else used the kitchen the entire time, so I assume it was left behind.) Overall, was useful to stay there but could be made so much more welcoming with some little touches.

Camping Platform Zaytuna Farm
The Camping Platform was perfect for my stay. I was testing out my new swag and being off the damp ground but still in the midst of Nature was the best of both worlds! I had come for the Permaculture Tour of Zaytuna the next day and was delighted to meet others who had come from much further afield for the same reason. Sitting around the fire at night chatting to some other campers was nourishing and cosy. Lovely peaceful night, waking to birdsong!

A unique and peaceful corner of this planet. The location is very quiet and has a beautiful fire pit to enjoy a clear sky night. Facilities like dry compost toilets were very clean. As an online Geoff’s PDC student, I had the pleasure to had a tour of the farm with Sam and be inspired from his stories and the project, walking along swales and the food forests. Highly recommended! Don’t miss to bring home some of the delicious fresh veggies and eggs! Thanks, I hope I’ll make my way back soon again

It’s not only a clean and fully equipped camp site, but also a unique experience which I loved the most about it! My partner and I loved the lifestyle of it! 100% recommended!

Comfortable stay, good toilet block, a bit dated but functional and clean. There is a basic kitchen and common area There is wifi but I didn’t use There is a large sheltered camp area , lovely grass but very wet underfoot ( the whole region is soaked post cyclone). I walked the 1 km to the tavern/shop/markets , easy walk and great food .

The Main Campsite Zaytuna Farm
It was a lovely spot to set up the tent surrounded by lush shady bamboo forests. There had been quite a lot of rain the day before but the site was not boggy. The farm dogs and cat are very friendly and all came to say hello at different times across the couple of days. The permaculture tour with Sam was really worthwhile doing to get to see more of the property and getting to ask questions about permaculture. Toilets and showers are fine, the kitchen has a gas cooktop, fridge and freezer which were handy. A few mosquitos, but not as bad as some caravan parks we had stayed at up the coast. Lots of birds and frogs around.

Great flat campgrounds that we were lucky enough to have all to ourselves. The bathrooms (with hot showers), kitchen and common areas were tidy and really useful! Everything was well signposted and clearly explained, so it was easy to look after ourselves and leave everything as we found it. Highly recommend getting a farm tour, especially if you're interested in permaculture.

Spent one night. Explored the hamlet being mindfully respectful of some private residences. The camping site had 10 elevate shelters and we slept in swags, and had a quiet and peaceful stay. Farm hands were always courteous & helpful when approached. There were some great ideas to take home and build your own mini food forest. There was a fire pit, a kitchen area with gas stove near the classroom, and The Channon Tavern is close by… just over a kilometre. Good food.

Spacious, well-maintained campsite with easy access amenities made for an stress-free stay. Showers, toilets, were conveniently located and well-kept. Wifi worked great and was able to charge electronics. Highly recommend and looking forward to staying again

Absolutely gorgeous and well thought out campsite with a lovely common space. I stayed while completing the permaculture design certificate and loved everything about the experience. Thank you everyone at Zaytuna farm for your generosity. For sharing your knowledge, your food and your land. Grateful to have lived and learnt beside you for two weeks.

Loved our stay. Our little one (7) had a chance to milk the cows in the morning. Owners of the farm very welcoming, fresh veggie box and organic eggs personally delivered. A wonderful off grid camping experience for the family. Spectacular natural waterfalls nearby and not too far drive to Lismore, Byron and beaches. Laundromat a short drive away at the corner shop.

We absolutely loved the 2 nights spent at the farm. It was really quiet, the air was so fresh and the area beautiful. The farm is kept well. We got to meet some of the people looking after it, including while they were milking the cows at 6am, which was great to see. The facilities are good too (running water was good to have, the stove in the kitchen does not work though). The bathrooms and showers were quite stinky but that's the issue with all natural toilets I guess, when no chemicals are used.

The Main Campsite Zaytuna Farm
It was a wonderful experience camping at Zaytuna Farm and see the power of Permaculture in action. This site is oozing with life and sits right next to a river with lot of fishing and swimming opportunities. Hosts are very kind and shown us way around and clear the path to the river for our fishing adventure. My children really loved to interact with farm animals from chicken, goats, cows, pigeons, cats, horses and the farm dogs who would frequently visit our camp with Geoff Lawton the owner of the property and a world renowned Permaculture practitioner and teacher. He is my mentor and my dream of meeting him in person came true. Mr Lawton is the reason I was attracted to this site for camping. We were given firewood for free and were able to buy few dozen of farm fresh eggs and vegetables box. Site has all the facilities and access is pretty straightforward. There is a huge cooking area with refrigerator and freezer available. We really enjoyed our stay at Zaytuna Farm and reconnecting with nature and seen power of Permaculture right in front of us what nature can do for us if we humans as a species respect it instead of exploiting it. Looking forward to go back it really felt like family country farm as I was home again and rejuvenated to get another hit from taxing city life.

A place to learn how to live

Stayed as part of PDC July 2024 Every single person on the Farm was helpful and kind. This is a place I would love to revisit. It was a pleasure to visit the dairy and see the cows enjoy the food forest, the goats and chickens and to hear the abundance of life across the property. The demonstration of Swales and dams and spillways was educational, along with the Nurseries and main crop areas. The volunteers who were on the property at the time were the kindest people with wonderful humour. And the families who helped create the experience for us were above and beyond lovely. My favourite parts of the land are the night sky, the dawn stars and millions of stars as well as the early morning winter fog and endless lessons all around. Each part of the farm started as some component of a grand design I couldn't quite recognise, but as the course continued, I started to learn about their relationships and functions within the landscape. I'll always love the campfire, the sounds of nature and the beauty of design, but mostly, the people of Zaytuna deserve every happiness. 🌹

My third time staying here, first was with my family incl. our 7yr old son and the last two stays were for a PDC course. The facilities were exactly as described and the farm experience was fantastic for those seeking insights into permaculture. The wildlife walks were lovely, staff were wonderful to deal with and the entire experience exactly as hoped for. It’s enlightening experiencing sustainable design and integrated living, gaining a taste of how life can and should be with people and place maximising benefits and abundance. Thank you to all involved for the wholesome experience.
