"Willowbank" is a stunning 252 acre property located in the picturesque Karuah River valley with 1km of river frontage. The property has been in our family for 4 generations, being bought by Ian's great grandfather in the 1920's. We cater for guests that are looking to get back to nature and enjoy the great outdoors without feeling overcrowded! We want our guests to be happy and have the best experience possible. Located only 8 minutes drive from the historical town of Stroud which was settled by the AA Company in the 1820's as a food growing area. There are still many beautiful buildings from that period to explore. A dairy farm for many years, we switched over to beef around 15 years ago. Currently we run around 120 head of Angus and mixed breed cattle. Within 3 hours drive of Sydney and around an hour from the Barrington National Parks, Newcastle, Maitland, Forster and Nelson Bay, it makes it the perfect destination for a weekend getaway! We are offering 6 beautiful, partly shaded, camping sites along the pristine Upper Karuah River. All sites are separated for privacy and are all right on the edge of the river. There are plenty of opportunities for bird watching, hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing (in summer), star gazing or just relaxing. All sites are site only and no toilet or shower facilities are provided. You will need to bring your own camping toilet or self contained caravan/ camper (dump point is located in Stroud township) We hope to make your stay a pleasurable one with many happy memories made. Access is via a lane through the paddocks and there isn't alot of room to manoeuvre large vans on the sites. Set up your camp by the river and relax to the sound of the water running through the rapids! There is a fire pit provided, if you would like a fire, please bring your own wood. (Subject to fire restrictions). Grab a blanket and watch the stars on a clear night or cast a line to catch a bass or mullet during the summer months. Perfect spot for sitting in the water and cooling off or bring your raft or kayak and float down the river. River shoes or old sneakers are preferred as the rocks can be slippery. There are many bird watching opportunities around the campsite and may even spot a platypus at the pump hole too. Go for a hike or bring your mountain bike as there are many trails up the mountain and out the back of the property. There are no toilet or shower facilities provided so please bring your own camping toilet etc. There is a dump point located in Stroud township, 10 minutes away. All rubbish must be removed from the site on departure. Pets must be under control at all times as we have cattle and working dogs in the vicinity. Failure to comply may result in you being asked to leave and no refund will be offered. Please keep our environment pristine for others to enjoy and to keep our flora and fauna safe. The river water is safe for washing up etc but should be boiled for drinking or bring drinking water with you. Cast a line to catch a bass or mullet during the summer months or watch the platypus play or wallabies feed early morning or evening if you are quiet. Riverview
Willowbank is my happy place… a stay never disappoints no matter what time of year it is. The cooler crisper nights are just perfect for a warm relaxing campfire and the river and wildlife always provide something new to explore and see. Jo and Ian are always the perfect hosts.

A nice couple of nights at Willowbank at the Old Cedar site. Spacious, relaxing. Pretty quiet. Joanne was a wonderful host, greeting us and directing us, and checking in on our way out. Great fire pit. The creek would be good for a swim in the warmer weather, spotted the platypus!

Such a hidden gem of a campsite. Campsites are well spaced out and 1 to suit single or group campers. We stayed at The Rapids - the campsite overlooked the river easy access down to the river where you can spend the avo floating along and perfect for our 20ft van. So much to do or do nothing - Jo and Ian were fantastic hosts so down to earth you felt like they were old friends. Waking up to the sounds of the cows just an added bonus - put this one on your list

What a wonderful Hipcamp. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Riverview site Willowbank. There was just enough room to spin our 18ft 6” van around to face the river, spacious site with a fire drum. The river was chilly but still managed a dip, a short walk from site where the water flows over the rocks. Jo and Ian are wonderful hosts along with the dogs, although Max is a little naughty 😂. We will definitely be back.

Another beautiful relaxing stay. We love staying at Willowbank, 2nd time on the Old Cedar Site. Beautiful flat site, right next to the river, loads of room, quiet feels like you'rein the middle of nowhere. The walk up to the top of the hill has amazing views and is a great place to relaxe around the fire. Wonderful hosts . Cant wait to go back in October 😃

Paperbarks was a lovely camp spot for our group of 9, very spacious, plenty of room for the kids to run around, no other campers nearby, the hosts were lovely and accommodating, very pretty location right next to the river, definitely a place we would go back to.

A beautiful location (I stayed at “Paperbarks”) that feels secluded but is only 10 minutes from Stroud. Huge campsite, beside the river, and large enough to have a choice of a sunny spot for the solar panels, or shady area in the cool. I loved it. Good mobile reception too. Easy vehicle access. Great hosts.

We spent 3 nights at Willowbank and honestly it felt like stepping into a proper laid back Aussie getaway with a host straight out of a crocodile Dundee movie. Ian is a legend of a bloke, quick to tell a bloody good story and had us laughing for ages and behind every legend is an equally lovely wife, Jo was warm, welcoming and made us feel right at home. We camped at "The Rapids", right by the water, peaceful, and perfect for switching off from our devices and busy work schedule, although I found it helpful that you still get service in case of emergency. Waking up to the sound of the river and wildlife was beautiful, fishing and reading down by the river by day and campfire at night with wood bought onsite just adds to the ease of staying at Willowbank. If you're after a relaxing, no fuss camp trip with beautiful rolling hill views, river sounds and a whole lot of character and charm then this is the spot. My family and I will be back !

This place is amazing, private, quiet and easy. Other sites are hundreds of meters away, you have access to the river only footsteps away and it’s only minutes off The Buckets Way. Jo met us as the entry to the property and lead us to the site while giving us a brief of the site and the local area. If you are looking for somewhere to get away but not having to go far of the beaten track, this is the place.

Very much enjoyed staring at Willowbank. Peaceful stay, with the creek flowing the background, it was nice to relax and enjoy our Easter weekend! Our boys loved seeing the cows and playing in the creek!

We had a wonderful time at the rapids site. The hosts Joanne and Ian are lovely and welcoming. It was so peaceful listening to the rapids, great being able to have a campfire in the provided firepit, also able to buy firewood if needed. We will certainly be back to stay again.

We camped at the Rapids site and it was fantastic! Right on the river with the sounds of cows and birds. We loved the serenity and Jo was excellent getting us settled. We can’t wait to get back!

Another wonderful stay at Willowbank. This was our second trip, but our first time at Paperbark site. Immaculately kept, spacious, private, direct river access. There was so much space for the kids to run free, ride bikes and explore. We enjoyed the shade of the big trees in the field during the day and an incredible fire by night. Thank you Joanne. We loved our stay at willowbank our only problem was that we couldnt stay longer, the property is stunning and our hosts were so friendly. The paperbark site was both spacious and secluded allowing enough space for us to spread right out and have room for the dogs to get around without getting tangled in anything, particularly while we were around the firepit. Since we were the only campers there at the time Joanne allowed us to scout out the other campsites and we are definitley planning on going back.

Willowbank is a beautiful property to camp on. We had two caravans on long flat site. We enjoyed relaxing next to the river, where we had a few swims, and our dog loved it. We walked around the property and ventured up the hill for a beautiful view. Having a fire every night and cooking some meals in the camp oven over the hot Coles was awesome. Jo was so lovely, from the first contact I made with her about our booking and right up to our last night, she was so helpful and responded quickly. If you’re thinking about staying here, stop thinking and book it. We will be back. Thanks Jo we had an awesome Easter weekend
