Visit Tathra, but stay at Kangarutha, only 2km from the edge of town, and enjoy space, privacy and tranquillity. We intentionally only have a limited number of campsites on our large property, so that you can enjoy camping in a natural setting away from the crowd. Our stunning property is comprised of open paddock areas surrounded by large areas of native forests, and we border national park. Enjoy the forest trails here on the property, which take you on a tour to our peaceful back dam. Or explore further afield - our place links to both the Tathra-Kalaru bike track and the Bournda National Park, where you can access the Tathra Mountain Bike Trail Network, as well as the secluded coves along the Kangarutha Walking Track. Our property was home to the former and well-loved businesses 'Kangarutha Nursery', and 'On the Perch Bird Park'. We have been busy re-imagining these spaces. We have drinking water, flushing accessible toilets and one hot shower a short walk from the campsites. Our property is dog friendly for well behaved dogs that don't chase wildlife or the horses on our property. No hunting dogs. Campfires permitted when there are no restrictions. You can gather your own wood, or we can prepare wood for you.

Kangarutha Bush Camp Site 2

Site 1 is the main campsite, and then we have another campsite (Site 2) further along the track to the Back Dam. These campsites are well spaced from each other (approx 120m). These are lovely sites set within an open woodland, on the way to our beautiful forest-fringed Hidden Lake. These campsites border the bush. Site 2 is very closely situated to our beautiful Hidden Lake (but please note, you are not camping right at the Hidden Lake). Site 1 is larger and flatter than Site 2, although at Site 2 there is still flat space enough for 1 tent. Site 2 may be better suited to a camper trailer set up. Site 1 is better suited to a larger group. The flushing accessible toilets are located approx 200m walk away from Site 1 and approx 350m from Site 2, through the back end of the nursery site. There is another small dam quite close by to these sites, so children will need to be supervised at all times - but they will have plenty of space to run or ride around.

Camp by the Dam

Visit Tathra, but stay at Kangarutha, only 2km from the edge of town, and enjoy space, privacy and tranquillity.  This is our premium campsite - it's a stunning site. We intentionally only have a limited number of campsites on our large property, so that you can enjoy camping in a natural setting away from the crowd.  Light the campfire, sit back and relax. Our stunning property is comprised of open paddock areas surrounded by large areas of native forests, and we border national park.  We are establishing a fruit and vegetable farm, and an ecotourism business, here on the property. This is a stunning secluded campsite tucked in behind our large farm dam, in front of the forest and the old nursery site.    Camp by the Dam has beautiful sunset views over the dam and across the paddocks.  The flushing accessible toilets are located approx. 200m walk away.  Simply relax and enjoy the immersion in nature.  Or get active and walk or ride the forest trails here on the property, which take you on a tour to our tranquil Hidden Lake.  Or explore further afield - walk or ride to Tathra along the Tathra-Kalaru bike track...or to the Bournda National Park, where you can get onto the Mountain Bike Trail Network...or find your way to the secluded coves along the Kangarutha Walking Track. Our campsites are suited to people who are looking for a nature-based, quiet and peaceful escape.   No parties or loud music at our campsites please. This site is not suitable for large caravans or large 2-wheel drive vehicles such as motor homes, as access can be problematic during wet weather. The price for this site is inclusive of up to 2 adults (or 1 adult and 1 child) and infants aged under 2 years old. Kids aged 2-15 years, are priced at the additional child rate.  Extra adults and kids aged 16 years or older, are priced at the additional adult rate. PLEASE NOTE: WE VIEW ADULTS AS 16 YEARS+ (NOT 13 YEARS+ AS HIPCAMP DOES).  IF YOUR KID IS AGED 13, 14 OR 15, PUT THEM IN AS A KID.  IF YOUR KID IS AGED UNDER 2 YEARS OLD, DON'T PUT THEM IN THE BOOKING, BUT PLEASE MESSAGE US TO LET US KNOW THEY ARE COMING.

Round Yard Paddock Camp

This large, flat camping space is set within one of our paddocks, and you have the whole paddock to yourself. This is a great spot for large groups, as you can really spread out here. In the hotter months, there is good morning shade over the firepit in the morning, but it does get sunny in the afternoons. Either bring your own shade, or there are other shady spots within the paddock to sit at in the afternoons. This is a great winter site. Flushing accessible toilets, shower and potable water are located approx. 150m walk/drive away. The price for this site is inclusive of up to 2 adults (or 1 adult and 1 child) and infants aged under 2 years old. Kangarutha Bush Camp Site 2
Beautiful bush land with spacious clearings for campers. Not many camping sites so it feels peaceful and in nature. Well kept grounds and good facilities - we didn’t mind the 10min walk to the bathroom. Lovely walks around the farm and dam - lots of tree ferns. Our hosts provided heaps of cut and stacked firewood: a treat. Only 5 mins drive to Tathra.

Camp by the Dam
We loved our stay at Kangarutha Farm, we had the camp by the dam which was absolutely stunning! Felt like we were miles from everyone, tranquil and beautiful setting with a an awesome sunset. Tom was the perfect host, nothing was a bother. Facilities were immaculately maintained….would definitely recommend a stay :)

Big Paddock Creek Camp
Camping at Kangarutha Farm was delightful! We tent camped in the Big Paddock Creek Camp and there was plenty of space for the three of us (two tents, two vehicles.) The facilities were clean and well-stocked, and having our bikes made the distance between our tents and them easy to cover! Our dog loved being able to explore the paddock and meet the friendly horses, and the bike trail into Tathra goes right past the farm making it really easy to cycle or walk into town. Tom was super friendly and has a very cute dog! We would definitely come back again!

Beautiful property, 10min drive to tathra beach. Gorgeous spacious sites, and fantastic to have toilets, shower and camp kitchen with sink and sheltered table :) we stayed in the round yard paddock and it's a beautiful (if sunny) spot with the field all to yourself :)

We had such a beautiful and peaceful time camping in bush camp 1. So much wildlife and bush walks. Lovely hot shower and clean toilets. Close to all the towns and mtb tracks. Definitely stay again.

Camp site was large and peaceful. It’s is far from the bathroom but we never minded the lovely stroll to the loo or kitchen. There’s a lovely covered area which we used for a dinner. Overall lovely place

Fantastic spot! Great location and hosts were helpful and very responsive. Keep in mind that that the site is a good 5 min+ walk to the facilities (toilet / shower and kitchen sink). Lovely bushy setting. Would stay again!

Big Paddock Tank Camp
I enjoyed my time at Kangarutha Far - I stayed at Big Paddock Tank Camp. The place was quiet and there is a great path/sidewalk just outside of the property that takes you straight into Tathra - took about an hour. Tathra itself is stunning. The views from so many different vantage points are incredible. I highly recommend exploring Tathra. A couple of watch outs: 1. The campsite I chose was very exposed. The ones on the boundary looked a bit more secluded/protected. 2. If you stay at the site I did, bring earplugs for sleeping. Those bugs had a party! Other than that comms were great and the place was clean and tidy. Thanks!

Kangarutha Bush Camp Site 1
We loved our stay on bush site 1. The site is a good distance from site 2 giving you personal space to enjoy. There are walking tracks on the property which we enjoyed. Cicadas and kookaburra’s are in abundance. Everything we wanted in a great location. We will be back.

Big Paddock Sunset Camp
My partner and I have stayed at quite a few Hipcamp places over the years and I have to say this spot is probably one of my favourites! Tom and Lisa were lovely hosts, very responsive and clear instructions to get to the Hipcamp! Kangarutha farm itself is lovely, well maintained for campers, facilities were clean and the hot shower was an added bonus! The views were amazing! Lovely sunsets, and watching the horses and kangaroos in the paddock made our stay very relaxing. Thanks for hosting Lisa and Tom, we will be back.

I loved the entire farm so calm and peaceful and the toilets are so clean. There are horses and kangaroos in the farm. It’s a beautiful place with ample of space between each tents and we loved the entire stay.

Big Paddock Corner Camp
We loved camping in Big Paddock Corner Camp at Kangarutha! Facilities are thoughtful and spotless, the property and forest are beautiful and it's a really convenient location to explore Tathra and the Sapphire Coast. We enjoyed watching the kangaroos every morning and evening and hearing the kookaburras in the trees. There is plenty of space and although there were other camp groups we couldn't ever hear them and our camp felt private enough to enjoy our chill time.

Kangarutha Bush Camp Site 2
Peaceful spot tucked amongst the bush and close to the back dam which was great for a swim and a great spot for our dog with some easy walks onsite. Lots of birdlife and some big Roos too. Still close enough to the bathroom amenities which were well maintained and always clean. Great base to explore local area as nothing is too far away. Tom was great with communications. Try it out!.

Camp by the Dam
Lisa and Tom were so welcoming. The location was perfect distance from towns. We stayed at the Dam campsite where large flat grassy area was available for a motorhome, a large tent and a marquee. We purchased firewood which was more than enough for three nights. Having a clean toilet and shower as well as drinking water and a microwave was a bonus. There are multiple shelters in case of bad weather.

Kangarutha Bush Camp Site 1
This was such a lovely venue! Close to both Tathra and Bega and really well appointed! We ordered the extra firewood and it was as a lot- we didn’t use it all over the weekend. We loved the shed area and gardens - it would be great to host weddings in this space if you wanted a bush wedding with cute horses in the background! We brought a Maltese dog and kept him on a leash the whole time and he had a good time too. I recommend seeing if you can use the camp fire ground near the toilet block for a fire at some point too if you have a group as the log seats there are super comfy and the gravel around it gave us peace of mind we weren’t going to start a bush fire as it was super windy the last night. Tom was a clear communicator and gave us tips on where to swim. Couldn’t t rate this place highly enough!!

We loved it at Tom and Lisa’s. Well spaced out sites so nice and quiet. Great to be able to take the dog! Awesome to be able to collect our own firewood from the property and the kids had a ball in the dam. Thanks very much for having us!

We loved camping at the big paddock creek camp. So peaceful and green and away on our own. The horses loved to visit us and enjoyed a pat. Beautiful place and Lisa and Tom thank you.

Awesome location! Camping in dappled shade, really feeling like you are miles from anywhere! A short bike ride to Tathra MTB trails, plus a shower, toilets and camp kitchen. Huge sites, so you can really spread out. Highly recommended.

Tom was a great host, we stayed a few nights here in June very beautiful farm with flushing toilets and hot shower. Lots to see and do nearby plenty of wildlife and great fishing spots. Thanks for having us!

Such a beautiful spot, differently pack the push bikes as it’s a fabulous ride straight into Tathra.. Facilities are among the cleanest I’ve ever seen, highly recommended ⭐️

We had a lovely & relaxing stay on Lisa & Tom’s land. The facilities are excellent & well kept. Our campsite (Camp by the Dam) was only a short walk from the facilities. We loved watching the sunset by the dam & waking up to the rabble of ducks.

We had a wonderful time on Lisa & Tom's land. The facilities were excellent and our site (Camp by the Dam) was a short walk from them. The facilities were also very well kept & tidy. The campsite is private and picturesque.
