The Hartley Vale Garlic Farm was established in 2018 as an organic garlic farm now owned by James and Michelle and their two children. The farm features a hempcrete building named 'The Stinking Rose' used for drying and curing garlic, that also acts as a big room for garlic feasts during planting (March, April and May each year). The building also houses toilet and shower facilities for guests when camping on site. On some evenings, the sky puts on a real show of golden sun rays with pink, purple and blue clouds while swallows flit across the garden beds catching moths. Our guests like to sit around their campfires watching the spectacular show while kids and dogs run around without the burden of leashes or noise of city traffic.We invite you to come and camp on our organic garlic farm. We invite you to come and camp on our organic garlic farm. Stunning valley and mountain views from the campsite. Plenty of space between campers. Close to Lithgow if you need supplies. Peaceful place to relax.

Amazing sunset views! Lovely hosts! They explained how the garlic works and delivered us firewood :) 2 nice dogs escorted us to the campsite and kept us company at the fire pit. Would definitely recommend!

Great camping site with gorgeous views and super cute dogs. It’s great to bring your dogs here so they can run around and play with the owner’s dogs. Will definitely come back!

Great spot for tent camping with great views of the local landscape. Very peaceful and spacious campsite. There are a couple of very friendly dogs on site, so you will want to be ok with dogs (we are). Toilet/shower facilities are quite decent for a campsite. We'd come back again.

Great place. Not at all crowded despite us staying over a long weekend. Off-leash dog friendly, with canine host Stephen leading the way, and junior canine host Daisy was a delight. Wombats, wallabies, roos, black cockatoos plus amazing scenery all around. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

Beautiful camp site, toilets were pretty fancy but hard to find. They are located at the back of the house. Signage for this would and to the shower would be helpful. There are also two resident dogs that free roam the property, which is fine but people should be aware before choosing to stay here. Overall, nice campsite

Great welcome from Oscar, lovely views down towards the dam where we set up in our van and loved being able to use our fire pit. Steven also was a charming canine visitor to us and our pup. Can be colder than you might think so rug up if don’t have heating. Two other parties camping at same time, still managed to feel private. Great stopover for night on route to Mudgee. We were self contained so didn’t use facilities.

Firstly - I should say Michelle and her husband were lovely. They helped us out of a right pickle... but I can't recommend this place. It's a scenic area for their home but the land didn't feel ready for camping. We arrived with vague instructions and proceeded to spend the night at an angle trapped in thick mud. There is little level, solid ground. Given the conditions - we would have expected clear guidelines on where to park. A sign and some mock pitches are essential. Or to have at least been met upon arrival - that has been standard for 3 weeks camping across Aus. We arrived - there was no signs, no obvious place to go (without camping right next to our neighbour). We weren't sure if we should go down to the house. Before we knew it - we were stuck in the mud. We don't have a big vehicle but felt pretty lucky and relieved to get away after getting stuck in the mud. The facilities are away from the camping area and shared with the main family home. The outdoor shower had no privacy and is out in the open. The loos needed cleaning - think this was probably just unlucky but didn't want to use them. Michelle and her husband got us out in the morning (and I should stress seemed like lovely people) but we think there are some definite improvements to be made given the price charged... not cheap for an unpowered 'site'. Perhaps it is fine during the summer but I would avoid during the winter and wet periods. Too stressful, too expensive and not worth the hassle.

We only stayed one night but had an absolutely fantastic time at this campsite! The views were stunning, and the peaceful setting made for a really relaxing getaway. The host was lovely and welcoming — she even offered us firewood, which was a lifesaver on a chilly night. We had a bit of trouble finding a completely even patch of ground for our tent at first, but with a bit of walking around, we found a good spot. It’s definitely manageable. Our dog absolutely loved exploring the area too — he didn’t want to leave! Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to unwind in nature, even just for a short trip.

I recently stayed at the Garlic Farm campsite and had an overall fantastic experience. The facilities are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run site: clean toilets, basic showers, and everything you need for a comfortable stay without any fuss. It's not overly luxurious, but it ticks all the boxes if you're there to enjoy nature and some quiet time away. What stood out most was the atmosphere—chilled, laid-back, and welcoming. Whether you're camping solo, with friends, or as a couple, the Garlic Farm has the right vibe for a casual weekend away. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a slow morning coffee with a view or head out exploring the nearby trails. Overall, I had a really fun time and would definitely return. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a peaceful, no-fuss camping experience surrounded by nature.

Stephen the Dog greeted us as we arrived, and spent the next couple of days playing with our dog. It was so lovely. Host Michelle showed us the sheep, horse and chickens. The toilets are BEAUTIFUL!! Warm water, hand towels, soap, flowers. Amazing. Would stay again.

We had a lovely view of the dam and the skyline. The property was very picturesque. The night sky was absolutely fantastic. Steven the dog was very friendly and visited us for the occasional pat. Michelle was a great host and was always very prompt to respond to any requests.

Feels a bit small when all sites are full but otherwise a very safe and friendly with everything provided and everything you need. Highly recommend if you have kids or pets, makes for a great camp and pretty hard to beat.

Good communication before arriving; easy to find in a great location with nicely presented amenities. Shared area but felt private as we were at the lower end of the area. We bought wood which was put to good use on winters' night. Plenty of animals sounding off at all hours, but it is a farm so to be expected and part of the charm. Hopefully return in the warmer months.

Fabulous big site with lots of space to camp and have a fire. Michelle and her family were very welcoming, including Stephen the collie☺️. Fab composting toilets. Michelle’s son and nephew even built a bonfire for all to warm themselves and enjoy as it was a cold and windy June long weekend!. Highly recommend.

Tidy spacious areas to camp with fire pits. Young entrepreneur Oscar will sell you some firewood. The facilities are also great. Last minute decision to leave my furry four legged companion at home but was kept company with Steven, the beautiful border collie.

We were genuinely excited to visit Hartley Vale Garlic Farm and made a same-day booking in good faith. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected medical issue with one of our pets we had to cancel within three hours of booking. We politely informed the owner, assuming a little understanding or flexibility might apply, especially given the short time frame and the circumstances. Instead, we were told without hesitation that there would be no refund, no rescheduling, and no credit. The kicker? We were welcome to come the next day… if we paid again. Let that sink in: booked, cancelled in 3 hours due to a health emergency, and their response was essentially “too bad, pay again.” This is not just bad customer service it’s predatory and short-sighted. There was no cost to them, no lost business, no materials prepared. Just a rigid and tone-deaf policy enforced with zero empathy. Really disappointing from a small business that markets itself as warm and welcoming. We’ll be taking our interest and our money elsewhere in future.

Loved staying here and would definitely come back next time I get the chance! The owners were really kind at check in and explained where everything was. The space was maintained really well, with trimmed grassy fields and a clean bathroom. They also have a really friendly dog!
