Downham Farm is situated on the banks of the Darling River, fifty kilometres upstream from Wentworth, seventy kilometres north to Pooncarie, and eighty kilometres east to Mungo. The property features three sandbars linked by box and ancient Red Gums, along with a natural billabong and wetland surrounded by magnificent Red Gum forest. Part of the farm includes large red sandhills, where a registered gravesite is located. Downham Farm is rich in historical, ecological, and cultural significance, including early paddle boat mooring and wood harvesting. A hundred-year-old restored homestead and cottage tell the story of the past, complemented by rustic horse stables and a blacksmith shop. The farm is abundant in natural beauty and wildlife. For modern amenities, Downham offers a basketball court, tennis court, and a golf driving range with a country twist. Guests can enjoy day access to the river, a boat ramp, kayaking, fishing, fire cooking (on non-fire-ban days), BBQ areas, birdwatching, walking trails, bike and jogging tracks, self-guided tours, a woodshed, an old telegraph track, an airstrip, a rabbit-proof fence, and our version of Big Red Sandhill. There is also a display of local art and sculptures, along with an on-site art gallery. Summers can be hot, but the weir pool ends at Downham and the natural Darling flows in at the northern boundary, creating an excellent fishing spot and a refreshing dip on a hot day. Guests are advised to be SunSmart, drink plenty of water, and respect native venomous species and the river. Winters are cold at night but glorious during the day. No matter the season, the magic of uninterrupted silence and a sky filled with stars from horizon to horizon is something to behold.

Thanks Kevin, great communication on the access to your property. Top spot on the river with plenty of firewood. Your tour and history of the area was over and above what we expected and really appreciated

Big Sand Bar One
We were very disappointed in what we came across. For starters, the host did not greet us. We were initially shocked as to how run down the whole property looked. And so disappointed in what condition that beautiful old homestead is in. We understand, there was a storm of some sort. But to see the roof totally off, exposing the entire insides to the elements, was heart breaking to see. The original shearing shed, gone. Admittedly, a newer one has been built. Which was quite impressive to see. But sad to see the original one gone. We chose not to camp along the river, one reason, there was threat of rain. And we know that area all too well. The other reason, it was too heartbreaking to camp next to something we once put in a lot of hard work into. We were previous owners, admittedly, it was 30+ years ago. But it was so disappointing to see the place look so run down. , so let go. It looks like a dump. Our beautiful homestead, all reno’s we put into that home is now ruined. Our children spent their primary school years there. They were excited with the prospect of returning to the old farm. But we thought we’d check it out first. I am glad we did. , they too would’ve been so disappointed. Finally, at that rate, of $45. Per night, with no ammenities what So ever, you need to be self contained. I would recommend you go to a caravan park, which has all you need , power, water, toilet, showers, laundry facilities , river, at the same rate.

Unique, peaceful campsites on a beautiful part of the Darling River. Very helpful and accommodating host who even offered kayaks for our use. Had the place to ourselves.

We loved our stay at Downham, Kevin was super accommodating, responsive to messages and was more than happy to share everything about the property we would need to know, and made sure we had everything we needed! Couldn’t recommend this property enough, such a beautiful spot and we can’t wait to go back.

Kevin was the best host. He offered to help with a flat battery, he had a kayak waiting for me to paddle down the Darling…..it made all the difference because I was travelling alone….. Great spot.🙏❤️

We had an amazing stay with perfect access to the river, nice and quiet. Easy to get to. The host Kevin responded straight away and was very easy going. Can’t recommended this place enough. Plenty of stuff to do, we caught fish, lots of Firewood around. Such a beautiful part of the Darling River we will definitely return
