Earn this patch by being the first to spend a night outside at a new Hipcamp.
‘Cootes Crossing’ is a peaceful 730 acre property located in the spectacular cool-climate granite country of New Valley (Northern Tablelands region, 30 minutes West of Guyra NSW). The property is a perfect escape for relaxation and a wonderful base to explore the region. Cattle grazing paddocks are surrounded by multiple areas of natural bush with large rock formations, boulder stacks, overhangs, and small caves. There are plenty of options for walking and birdwatching. The area has a distinctive ecological environment with box-gum woodland and open sclerophyll forest. 3km of Barns creek runs through the middle of the property and with its sandy base is great for a dip in the waterholes. Approximately 1100 metres above sea level. Average temperatures are between 5-18 Degrees Celsius in Winter, and 17-30 Degrees Celsius in Summer. Average annual rainfall is 900mm with higher rainfall during the summer months. Native Animals Marsupials: Eastern grey kangaroos, red-necked wallabies, swamp wallabies, brushtail possums, ringtail possums, and sugar gliders. Birds: Kookaburras, wedge-tailed eagles, brown goshawks, magpies, white ibis, crimson rosellas, Australian king-parrots, red-rumped parrots, grey fantails, restless flycatchers, brown treecreeper, buff-rumped thornbill, golden whistler, rufous whistler, and yellow-faced honeyeater. Mammals: Insectivorous bats, echidnas, and occasional koalas or quolls inhabit the broader regional corridor. Reptiles: Various skinks, bearded dragons and frogs. Turtles in the creek. Native Flora Stringybarks, ironbarks, yellow box, white box, Blakely’s red gum, river oak, wattles, bottlebrush, cypress pine, tea tree. Drought-tolerant tussock grasses, sclerophyll shrubs and groundcovers.
