Our hinterland hideaway, Booyong Farm, is nestled in the beautiful hills of Clunes. With a mix of natural bush and around 600 grand old macadamia trees, it’s a private off-grid escape that still keeps you close to everything. Clunes Store and Cellars is just 5 minutes down the road and is a bit of a local gem, with great coffee, food, groceries, fresh fruit and veg, alcohol, drinks, and even a post office. You’re also only 15 minutes to Bangalow, 20 minutes to Lismore and around 30 minutes to Byron Bay. Alongside our old horses Sunny and Himi, our chooks, our goats, the cows and our dogs Bowie and Naboo, there’s plenty of wildlife that calls this place home. It’s not uncommon to spot wallabies, echidnas, platypus, eagles and lots of birdlife if you take the time to slow down and look around. You can choose from two different sites across the property. Site 1 sits up on the main farm plateau with easier access, while Site 2 down by the creek is a bit more tucked away and only suited to those with a 4WD. Each spot feels private in its own way and all of them catch the beautiful sunsets we get out here. The spring-fed creek runs year round and is a lovely place to cool off after a wander, whether that’s exploring the property itself or heading out to one of the many incredible spots nearby. Just keep in mind that water levels can change depending on recent rain, as Mother Nature tends to do her own thing. There’s plenty to explore in the area if you feel like heading out, from long lunches and good food to horse riding or a day at the beach. Or you can just stay put, slow down and enjoy the quiet. It really depends what kind of stay you’re after.

Site 1, our Farm Plateau, is the easiest access spot on the property while still feeling private and surrounded by nature. You can drive straight in without needing a 4WD, making it a great option for a wide range of setups while still enjoying the quiet and space Booyong Farm is known for. Set amongst open paddock with bush surrounds, it’s a beautiful spot to settle in and unwind, with wide skies and some pretty special sunsets in the evenings. Our horses will often wander over and pop their heads over the fence to say hello, which tends to be a highlight for many guests. Guests staying at Site 1 still have access to the whole property, including the creek and macadamia field, so you’re free to wander and explore at your own pace. The creek is a lovely place to cool off or sit for a while, depending on recent rainfall, and if you’re here in season you’re very welcome to collect as many macadamia nuts as you like straight from the ground. This site is perfect if you’re after something simple, accessible and relaxed, without giving up that feeling of being properly out in nature.

Site 2 - Creekside

Site 2, our Creekside spot, is a more secluded and tucked away part of the property, set closer to the creek and surrounded by nature. It’s a quieter, more “off-grid” feeling space, perfect if you’re after a bit more privacy and don’t mind a slightly more rugged setup. Access to this site does require a 4WD, as the track can be uneven and is better suited to those comfortable with a bit of a farm-style drive in. Once you’re there though, it feels like your own little pocket of the property. The creek is just a short stroll away and is a lovely place to cool off, sit quietly or explore, depending on recent rainfall. If you’re up early and a bit lucky, you might even spot a platypus moving through the water. You’re also welcome to wander through the macadamia trees and the rest of the property, and if you’re here in season you can collect as many nuts as you like straight from the ground. Even though this site feels tucked away, you still get a great view of the beautiful sunsets that roll across the property in the evenings. This site suits those who enjoy a more natural, back-to-basics experience, with the reward being the peace, space and connection to the land that comes with it.

Site 2 - Creekside
Unfortunately we stayed at site 2 with our car and 22ft caravan and while getting into and out of the site we did thousands of dollars damage to our car and van. The access is definitely not suitable for trailers of any size due to the angle of the entrance gate, and the low hanging trees and narrow path down to the site, so there is no way to avoid scratches along the sides and roof of your set up. The owner could rectify this by maintaining the path and cutting back the trees. The site itself is quiet, but very uneven and hard to get level and the creek had no water due to no rain so we could not swim. Getting out of the property took us 3+ hours and the owners neighbour had to assist us. We have severely damaged our van in the process. The owner said he had rigs the size of ours on the site previously but I truly do not believe how that’s possible considering how much trouble we had getting off the property. I would not recommend this site to set ups with trailers. Rooftops and tents would be suitable, if they don’t mind side and roof scratches from low hanging branches/trees.

Great spot, we got in after dark and met James who guided us into our spot. It was nice, quiet with plenty of space to turn around. Only a short drive to Clunes where there is a cracking little cafe for a coffee

We ended up in the higher campsite not by the creek as you would need a proper 4WD and we have a 2011 Nissan x trail. Nonetheless was a great spot, we booked late (8:30pm) and James was really really lovely. You can see the house from the site but still felt quite private. We had a wonderful time - thanks so much!

Absolutely amazing piece of paradise, the creek is so close and has so much to explore. The dogs absolutely loved it! It’s quiet and peaceful, and far away from other campers. We will be back!

We absolutely loved our peaceful stay on site 2 by the creek. Hosts instructions on how to access the site were helpful and made it easy to find. The site was kept nice, clean and the location was perfect for us. Ultimate privacy, access to the creek right next to the site & quiet. We would recommend to others and will be back ourselves!

Absolute beautiful spot. Definitely worth the money and will be back next time we are needing to stay in the area. The campsite was beautiful. Only 1 booking allowed per site which meant for a relaxing and peaceful getaway without worrying about others camped next to you. This also made you feel like you were away from all the city life without being to far from Lismore. The creek was stunning and a great place to swim for all. Our 1 year old loved playing in the creek. The hosts are wonderful and gave brilliant directions ensuring not to get lost or confused on the tracks the short distance to the campsite. Was the perfect stay and location for everything we needed whilst away.

We enjoyed our stay at Booyong Farm, the location and premises were beautiful and we loved watching the horses and strolling around the creek. We stayed at Site 1 2WD access and the creek was a fair but pretty walk from the plateau. The site was close to the road and had limited shade, but was well maintained with a good fire pit. We would definitely consider coming back to Sites 2 and 3 in the future.

Directions where clear and hosts are welcoming and wonderful. The space is amazing, private, yet still close and connected. Fire pit, fire wood was provided. A beautiful walk to the stream was a welcome treat. The goats are bleating, rooster crowing n cows mooing, happy farm sounds.

Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough! It’s absolutely gorgeous and so relaxing. It’s a well maintained area, super private and close to the running creek. Our dogs had the best time at the Creekside site. James was so welcoming and friendly. Will absolutely be back!

The area was lovely, wide space and no other campers nearby. The kids loved chatting to the horse, we saw some wallabies and even two snakes nearby. The creek was a very short walk away from the campsite, still a bit cold for this time of year. Bring lots of bugsprey!

My husband and I set up camp for one night and it was perfect. We have visited once before so we arrived late and checked out early to explore the hinterland. Communication was great and we look forward to our next trip in the near future.

A great little site just above the river. Wonderful swimming holes and perfect privacy - except for the wonderfully social cows. James and Sarah were always quick to respond and lovely to deal with.
