Great experience!
Love camping in this beautiful spot. It is primitive (no hook up) and it is a working ranch with cattle all about. Do Not take the road out of Livingston, I have been on worse jeep trails but the road from Big Timber is great. Host is great and they let us drive up to the ranch house for wifi a few times as there is no cell signal for miles. Which in our book is a huge perk.

Another great stay
It was a great time! Beautiful property and they are very friendly! DO NOT take the road out of Livingston. It is awful I have been on jeep trailes that are better. Take the road out of Big Timber. There is no cell signal for about the last 8 to 10 miles. You will not get cell signal which is one of the reasons we love it.

Lucky enough 💚
Our family had the most incredible time at Ellison Ranch. The host came out to meet us immediately upon arrival to pick our site, which was right along the river. We stayed for two nights and kids had a blast playing during the day along the river and in the big grass fields. Erik, the ranch manager, really went above and beyond and we had the most incredible experience exploring their nearly 2K acre working ranch. He drove us on an ATV tour to meet the cows and horses, and look for other wildlife. He even drove us to a high point on the property where we could see 5 different mountain ranges. It was absolutely breathtaking. We loved learning about the history of the Ellison Ranch, which has been in the same family since the late 1800s. FYI- We have a 30ft Class A motorhome and had no problem finding or accessing the location coming through Big Timber. This authentic Montana ranch stay was a major highlight of our trip and we are so grateful to Erik and Kent for their hospitality. As they say, “if you’re lucky enough to live in Montana, you’re lucky enough.” Lucky they are indeed, and how lucky we are they are so generous to share it with us.

The site was pristine with the West Boulder river only feet away. Nature was the only "noise". The stars were on full display

We absolutely loved this campsite! We stayed there at the end of June and it was warm during the day but it cooled off at night. The creek was too high for fishing but we played in the water and had a great time. If you have a trailer I definitely think it is better to drive from Big Timber. The gravel road from there is a lot easier to drive and it is worth the drive. If you drive from Livingston instead, you will be coming down from a mountain and while the view is amazing, it has some very tight corners while the road from Big Timber is more flat and easier to drive. I would love to go back to that campsite!

Beautiful!
Absolutely loved setting up camp here! Right next to the river with a big fire pit. No light pollution at night so you can see the stars! Loved it! Thank you Kent for sharing your beautiful land!

Lots of hills.
Overall nice experience. The camp was a field off the side of a road, so lots of privacy. Better be self sufficient as there is no cell service and we had no idea where the house or renter was located from where we were camping. Bring your own firewood. Being next to the water was nice. Too fast flowing for swimming or wading in.

Brilliant coupe of nights here in June 2022. Arrived late at night and had put a pin in the location where we figured our camp spot would be on google maps (and downloaded the map on our phone so it could be used offline). Seemed to work well! Had a super chilled time sunbathing and hanging out by the raging river (lots of snowmelt). Went for a walk on the ridge above the ranch to get some great views of the valley. Definitely recommend if you're wanting a nice off grid ranch camp experience.

Peaceful, private, and perfect!
Perfect! I loved camping here. First of all, I read some reviews criticizing the drive to the site. Completely false. Yes, you travel on dirt roads but they are well maintained and it is one of the most beautiful drives. And I live in Montana so I'm no stranger to beautiful drives. I didn't take the road from Big Timber but opted for the longer dirt road drive from Livingston. Go slow. Enjoy it. Second, I had an easy time finding the location as I marked it on my map prior to driving. I'd recommend doing the same as cell signal doesn't exist. It was easy to find because of that. Last, the site was awesome! Plently of flat spaces next to the river, a fire ring, and not a single building as far as the eye could see. The site was about 75 yards off the road and very few cars drove by. It was perfect for my two dogs to run and play. I can't wait to come back and fish. The river was a little high with runoff but will be in excellent shape in the coming days/weeks. With that said, I will be back and hope to camp at one of the ridge spots that I've seen talked about on here.

Loved the solitude
Loved camping on Ellison ranch, felt like we were in only ones for miles, beautiful views, snowcapped mountains in the distance. We stayed yards off the river. Absolutely beautiful place. They were super nice also. Thank you for sharing your place with us, we loved it.

Gorgeous location very remote/quiet
Beautiful spot. Very remote- a little nerve wracking but great for a group of ppl. Unfortunately we got very very lost on our way but were able to find the ranch eventually. Note: If your gps takes you through Custer national park: youre going the wrong way. While there is a way to cut through, it was completely covered in snow and we couldn’t get through, so we had to go back down the mountain and take a different route. Safe bet to just not go that route if you book this spot!

We did not ever make it to the campsite due to a road that was so slick and muddy. Do not even try it unless it’s super dry.

The Ellison Ranch was beautiful! We were greeted by Kent and his friendly dog (and a few cattle) and tent-camped in a nice area by the river. It was more than we could have asked for - very welcoming host and a perfect, secluded area with big-sky views during the day and star-gazing at night! The smoke haze even cleared a bit for us. Hope we can find a reason to come through this part of Montana again!

View was beautiful. Site was very nice. Instructions of where to park were vague. Never did meet Kent but had a great conversation with Eric who very nice but ten minutes into the conversation he informed us he “was just getting over covid.”I did not appreciate the exposure.

This spot is everything you're looking for if you want a quiet spot to camp. Kent was a great host, and the bulls we shared the pasture with were non-stop entertainment for our puppy. We can't wait to stay again!

Fantastic
Beautiful land and right next to the water. Off the beaten path—which makes it fantastic!! Lots of wildlife in the mornings and at dusk. Saw mule deer, elks and a skunk from our van while leaving early in the morning. Lots of privacy. First Hipcamp experience!!

One of my favorite spots
This was the one spot on my cross country road trip where I felt truly peaceful at camp after a long day of driving. Watching the sunset over the hill from the camp site down by the river was just what I needed. You are camping in a pasture so you will have some dried cow manure as your neighbor, but it didn't bother me at all.

Rancher life
Finally got the views of large Montana meadow ranches. It’s a decent drive down an in paved road to Ellison Ranch. Expect to have no cellular reception at this point. Many of the camp spots border the river. The night sky was vibrant and full of stars. A short distance from highway 298 which gives glimpses of the national forest heading south. Camp sites are not marked and led to some confusion. Only downside was the abundance of flies and biting flies that wake up at 9am and disappear by 6pm. Perhaps it was just the seasonal timing of the visit. Be prepared to wave at everyone that passes you on t in paved road.

Peaceful stay
Ellison Ranch was a beautiful getaway that was extremely peaceful. We stayed at site 3 for two nights and drove into Yellowstone each day. Contact Kent for directions as you will lose cell service. Follow his directions and it is extremely easy to get to. We saw plenty of wild life while driving and camping. We came in from the East and you will drive on about 6 miles of easy gravel road. To head to Yellowstone you will continue west down 17 miles of gravel road to Livingston. This way is a little more rough and you will want to take your time. The site was located on a river that provided a peaceful background noise. Would recommend if you are looking to get a peaceful option outside of town.
