My property (Lynx Run) has an amazing geological and historical background. During the last ice age, glacial waters carved out the ravine in which the Betts Creek flows.  Sometimes, the creek drops over 60 feet below the surrounding terrain as it meanders back and forth in oxbows as it flows toward the Muskegon River.  It was once the hunting, foraging and camping grounds of the Potawatami Indians.  In the late 1800's it was at the center of the Michigan Timber Industry.  Running along the edge of my property is the old railroad bed where timber was once hauled away.  Only two miles from my home, the logs were sent down the side of the hill and into the Muskegon River on log chutes and then floated to where the Muskegon empties into Lake Michigan.  Piles of field stones indicate that after the timber industry moved on, farmers moved in and attempted to tame the land.  But, fortunately for me, the land was abandoned by the farmers and has returned to a much more natural and pristine state.  My land is now a part of the Manistee National Forest and I am surrounded by thousands of acres of beautiful land (both public and private).  I am the only person who lives back here in this part of the forest, so seclusion and privacy are wonderful and the wildlife and beauty is abundant.

Wilderness Stream Magic
My siblings and I have made it a tradition to go camping at Robert’s property once a year now! We stayed at a different site on the property last year, and both sites we’ve stayed at have been lovely. This one was by the stream and it was nice to listen to at night. It was closer to another campsite (the teepee) than we realized, but actually that worked out okay for us, we got along great with our camp neighbors. You do have to cross two little makeshift bridges over the stream to get up to the bathrooms so that was a little sketchy and night but it kind of added to the adventure 😂 We LOVE Robert’s property, the guys enjoyed playing chess inside the amazing library, I loved hanging out in the woods and meeting all the chickens. We also enjoyed wandering the gardens, there were monarch butterflies hatching while we were there! It’s really nice having access to bathrooms and the showers are actually pretty nice. Everyone working there is very kind and helpful. Can’t wait to visit again next summer!

Beautiful Wilderness Cabin
Really cool spot in the woods, especially if you are into art. Host is courteous and very relaxed. Definitely a roll with whatever's happening kinda place. Cleaner cabin and bathroom setup would have improved the stay. On the fence about going back, because there is something awesome about the place. would only recommend to friends that are down to go with the flow.

Secluded Forest with field edge
Secluded space, with the option of using the showers and kitchen. Robert was very friendly and available to answer any questions. The scenery and peace and quiet was exactly what we needed!

Beautiful Wilderness Cabin
The property is lush and beautiful, with large wild gardens full of native blooms, bumbling bees and hummingbirds. The trout stream was indeed, pristine and we spent a lot of time with our kids and dogs out there. It is a short walk from the cabin which was great for having little ones in tow. The cabin is far enough away from the main house to feel private. The chickens hung out with us on the porch, which was breezy and set up for easy outdoor cooking and dining. A hose with cold well water runs from the house up to the porch, which was extra convenient. We took a great hike through the woods which had nice clearly marked trails. Robert was responsive and helpful.

Secluded Forest with field edge
Robert and his live-in assistant are amazing! Even when we arrived late at night, they still made it a point to greet us and let us tour the property. Robert's artwork and living space are absolutely out-of-this-world. Such a cool and unexpected part of our camping. The land as well was lovely -- peaceful, serene, secluded, and safe. Great to set up a few 2-person tents and sit around the fire!
