Quiet and Beautiful

We had a blast tent camping on Lee’s property! The location was beautiful and right by the water. Our two golden retrievers got to roam freely and got along great with Louie (Lee’s pup). There were chickens free range and a growing garden. Had access to a toilet and shower. Lee was a wonderful host with great communication and she gave us a tour of the property. Would recommend a visit and we would love to come back!

We loved our recent stay with Lee! She was so hospitable and the location was superb. Everything was so quiet, we had wood for the fire pit, and had dinner at Shorts- what more can you ask for? Thanks for hosting us, Lee! We will be back for sure.

Perfect for a one nighter and our needs. Website had some things pictured or implied, but not so much the case. Water frontage is just an easement to get down there basically, and not real easy, is possible tho. Shared a campfire with some other people there. Not a big deal, but was news to myself and the other group when we set up by the campfire. Over all, cool looking place. Good location for what we were doing. Everything was fine, just didn't expect the extra company at night.

Great place for a nice stop upnorth
Great location for our trip along the westcoast of Michigan. We stayed one night with a pleasant water view of a lake qith a summer breeze. The shower was very much needed and welcomed. Clothesline was up and ready to dry our soaked items from the previous nights rain storms. The outhouse was clean and used very little. Lee even lent us a table and chairs for the night. We enjoyed the lack of bug bites and the owls at night.

We thought it would be a more private setting with separate and marked sites. We were camping in front of their garage and we’re on their driveway and we didn’t feel comfortable. They have a loft on top of the garage and they had guests also and didn’t feel any privacy. The pictures they have of the property are beautiful but misleading because it seems like you’ll have your own fire pit but you don’t.
The owner-husband was always doing something around the property and we would have liked to have a more private site.
The property itself and surroundings are beautiful. The host Lee was very hospitable and very nice.

Wonderfully awesome!
Our stay was much better than expected! Lee is a phenomenal host. Fieldguide Farmhouse is an awesome old house in a beautiful setting. We stayed in our motorhome and in all our travels we did not have a better site and very private-overlooking the lake. Wonderful!

I had fun
Very professional, i recommend spending a day in bell aire and reserving a table at shorts brewery or renting kayaks on torch lake while you are here. The shower is a little sketchy but it's way better than nothing.

Lovely Property, Misleading Listing

I'd like to start out by saying that we had a lovely time at this property, however, the listing was definitely misleading (and overpriced for what it was). The campsite area is only about 150 yards from the owners house, and is directly next to a shed that has an apartment above. The hosts were out of town, so this wasn't an issue for us, though I imagine it would not be private if they were home. There was a couple staying in the apartment above for one night, which was a little close for comfort. We also expected there to be water/beach access, but the water was across the street, with no where to access. It still made for a beautiful view, though!
THE PLUSES:
The firepit was PERFECT for cooking all of our meals over. There are iron grates that slide over the top which make it perfect to put a pan on or even cook directly on. Next to the firepit, there is a grove of trees that was perfect to hang 4 hammocks from. There was also a very clean porta-potty there for our use, along with an acceptable shower and running water in the basement of their house. We also found a beach with water access for our dogs on the other side of the lake (Gorham Beach).
Overall, this was a nice property, and would return for a lower rate, but the listing was a bit misleading

This was the worst camping experience we ever had.
I told the host my concerns and she told I could only get a refund if I posted a positive review.
However, we chose this place based off the amount of positive reviews it had so I didn't feel comfortable lying.
We only stayed for one of the two nights. There are many places, MUCH cheaper in the area, I would suggest over going here.
It was hands down the most expensive place we've ever camped in ten years, so I maybe had too high of expectations?The "bathroom" is an outhouse. The showers are a very dangerous staircase into a cellar that is out of a horror movie. I wouldn't even let my nephew attempt going down the stairs.
There was dog poop everywhere. We stepped in multiple times.
No privacy. At all. You are camping in someones back yard, which is slightly uncomfortable when they're on the back porch grilling dinner.... The photos posted made this very misleading.
Options of outdoor camping are-
1. Under a dangerous grove of trees with branches waiting to fall and hurt you. (the host told us they were dangerous but still wanted us to move underneath them?)
2. Basically next to the house in the front yard
3. On a hill next to the sprinkler system
(we moved out from under the scary trees, to an area we felt safer) We were told that wasn't an option for us (she was concerned about her campers above the garage vs our safety)
I was with my mother, sister, nephew, brother-in-law and husband; we went camping as a family. The host embarrassed me by coming out and trying to get us to move our site (at 9:30pm) because she was worried that we would be disruptive to the campers in the room above the garage....
We were sitting around a campfire and playing games.
It was ironic because there was noise coming out of their home well into the night.
The pictures of the lake are just for show, there is no easy access. When we asked about The Dunes, Lake MI, Torch Lake etc (which were mentioned in the post description) she had no information to help with. Also, make sure you bring firewood, they also overcharge for that as well.
Luckily we found a place for our second night and were able to salvage the weekend, it is now just a funny horror story for us.
Unfortunate this is what happened the first time we used Hipcamp.

A great experience!
We had a wonderful stay at Fieldguide Farmhouse! The site is beautiful and is right across the street from the lake. There are trees for hammocks and a fire pit with ample firewood provided. Lee is such a great host and gave us clear instructions and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. We ran out of blankets so she even lent us some. We will definitely be back! Their two adorable dogs kept our pup Luna company almost the whole time and Luna didn’t want to leave :) We will definitely be back the next time we’re in the area. Thank you for having us Lee!

Great views from a lovely property!

The Fieldguide Farmhouse is a great camping location! It was my wife's first time camping and she was nervous about being away from "amenities", so Lee's place was a perfect introductory step with access to a bathroom and shower. The property is expansive, so there's always privacy, with some beautiful views of the lake.
Lee also provided some great local knowledge and tips for dog-friendly places!

Lee was a fantastic host! Although she wasn't there when we camped, she made sure to leave us with everything that we needed and then some. The yard was absolutely beautiful and the fire pit was perfect for us. There was another group renting her house but they were nice enough to allow us to use the bathroom and shower during our stay. I would highly recommend Lee's property. Thank you!

Our hosts Lee was absolutely the best! One of the kindest people we've met in our travels while in Michigan. She went above and beyond, making sure we had everything we needed for a good night of camping. Even left a few goodies for us in the cooler for when we arrived. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous with stunning views of the lake. There's tons to do around here.
