First Hipcamp - Won't be the Last
What a great experience from the peaceful drive along country roads to Jo and Chris' ranch to the beautiful vista from the porch of the cabin. Jo's directions were perfect, and their online description of the property is complete and accurate. It is a little walk to the cabin and it is uphill so plan accordingly and don't overpack like me LOL! The cabin and outhouse were clean, the cots were comfy, and there are so many places to explore right outside your door. My pup had a blast and is probably going to sleep for days. I definitely plan on returning for another weekend this fall at the Reformed Hunting Cabin.

Stargazing, Animal Friendly
With every turn of the country road, we knew it was going to be more secluded. After receiving a warm greeting by one of our hosts, we were directed to our parking spot. The map was super helpful in points of interests and hiking trails. He was very thoughtful in catering to our hobbies such as fishing and boating. We trekked up the hill to the site. I suggesting packing light as this was a moderate walk and I completely overpacked. Still worth the trip to the car for my telescope, as the skies were clear and no light pollution at all. The site offers basic amenities such as cookware, a few camping chairs, two worn heavy duty chairs for porch (or inside cabin, if preferred), cots, a swing, lanterns and the luxury of a compost toilet. We happened to stay during some stormy days. The wind was very strong, but we stayed cozy and dry inside the cabin. Our doggo had tons of room to roam off leash; the light up harness was a total win. There were coyotes in the distance, but no animals visited the campsite to bother our gear. This rustic cabin gave the perfect mix of primitive camping along with the upscale of real walls, windows and a door. We would recommend this site to any other fellow outdoor lovers.

will not stay here again
Unfortunately there were a few issues. mice feces all over surfaces, a window that blew open all night with 30’ weather. a neighboring fog that barked the entire night, and plates and silverware were left from previous renters unwashed. we let the host know and left a day early and they refused to refund us even after I had proof of pictures etc.

Peaceful and quiet
Loved it here, and we hope to be back in the summer! Lots and lots of space to roam and you are far enough away from other campers to feel like it is private enough if they are around their site. If there is some sort of gear you might need, if is probably already here (camp stove, chairs, etc.). Loved feeling far away from everything for a few days, we wished we had more time so we are planning on being back to explore some more. Also, we
(humans and dogs) all drank from the spring on the last day because we ran out of water and we are all fine!

Camping with the cows
The one thing I would note that isn’t highlighted enough is that you get to camp with cows! This hunting cabin is right in the middle of the cattle farm and the cows followed us around and even slept outside our cabin! It really added to the already amazing ambiance of this place. Also - toms of great hiking on the property, a gorgeous little drive from the gorge, and stunning views at every angle.
Other than that, I’ll let the other reviews do this place the justice it deserves. In short - you will not regret your stay here!

Site 2 - Little Creek Campsite
For a planned trip down to Kentucky to explore the graveyards of my ancestors - this quiet little hollow was a perfect place to call home base! Joanna had me all set up with lots of firewood and even loaned me her personal map of the area which made my explorations possible! The site was clean and easily accessible right off the road. To be clear - the "road" is close to you, but it is actually more like a driveway with little to no traffic. You wake to the sounds of the farm and little else!

Great remote location
What an amazing location and setting. The view from the porch is worth the stay. There is a short hike in so don't bring more than what you can carry up hill. The hosts were very kind and accommodating as they are still getting things set up for winter stays. I look forward to returning in the spring.

Perfect Secluded Getaway
If you are considering a stay at the reformed hunting cabin, I’m here to tell you you will not regret it. We were looking for a place to decompress and spend a peaceful Halloween amongst ourselves and we got all that and more. The views when you reach the cabin are breathtaking and you’ll have a hard time wanting to leave the hill top the rest of your time there (though I highly suggest exploring the trails and taking a bike ride along the creek.) Not only were we provided with fresh eggs and a map of the property upon arrival, but we found the cabin loaded with amenities, including a Dutch oven we cooked every single one of our meals in. Chris & Joanna could not have been better hosts, we already plan on returning in the Spring!

Simply spectacular
What a beautiful place. The scenery is unmatched. the cabin is absolutely lovely, very accommodating. The trails are beautiful. The hosts are gracious and welcoming.
When they say “grab your stuff and we’ll get you settled”, plan to do exactly that. Make one trip up the hill to the cabin. It’s a good little hike, but well worth making the trip. You’ll feel like your in your own little haven and secluded pretty quickly. You’ll likely not want to come down.

Bring Extra Socks ;-)
When I read the reviews for this reformed hunting cabin, I couldn't figure out how this experience consistently knocked so many people's socks off. So I made my way there with reasonable expectations of a relaxing weekend in a cool little spot. By the time I'd arrived, the drive alone was enough to make me feel that my weekend was already well spent. You drive gently winding roads, surrounded by peaceful beauty. The October colors were a nice bonus. When I arrived, the greeting I received from Joanna, Chris, Katherine (hope I spelled that right!), and Chris's visiting sister was so warm, I almost asked if I could join them for dinner. I could have talked to them for hours. Joanna gave me a few farm fresh eggs that completely upgraded Saturday morning's breakfast, and Katherine loaded one of the bicycles up and dropped it near the cabin for my use. I then made my way to the cabin. With Katherine's guidance, I parked at the bottom of the hill that leads to the cabin. I loaded my gear on my back and trekked up the ~.25 mile hill (a decent little workout). As you see that cabin peek at you from over the hill, you start to feel those socks come off. This is one of those places that a picture will never capture and these words will never adequately convey. You have to feel feelings. This place gives you a feeling. I think that several reviews itemize all the touches of this rustic gem, so I will stick with the broad strokes. This is a place that will wow you with its exquisite 360 view of a dynamic landscape, it will charm you with its rustic grit mixed with hospitable love, and it will continuously renew your interest with hiking trails, biking paths, wildlife - and if you're lucky, a riveting but passing thunderstorm. Yes, my socks too are off. Thank you Joanna, Chris, and Katherine, for sharing your special place.

Wonderful place to camp. We chose to use the cabin as more of a storage unit for our stuff and sleep in a tent outside, which was great. Plenty of space to move around, beautiful landscape and local hiking, nice fire pit for cooking, and the hosts were very accommodating and friendly.

Solitude & Adventure Await
What a unique stay! The "reformed cabin" is on top of a hill that overlooks absolutely gorgeous pasture and woods. I really appreciated the property map given to me at check-in and the clearly established trails on the land!
The shack itself was slightly rougher than I'd anticipated but that's probably more me than them. I shared the room with at least one very active mouse (and its poop) and some wasps . A small herd of cattle visited a few times, knocking over the heavy duty cast iron cookware set-up in their curiosity. The cows were adorable and peaceful if slightly intimidating in size and number, and I later learned that they aren't supposed to be in that pasture. I consider it a lucky added benefit that they visited me :) This is a spot where the animals and insects run the joint, and we're just the visitors!
It stormed briefly while I was staying there, which sounded amazing under the metal roof, and the moon was full, glowing so bright over the land that my city-dwelling brain first wondered if it was a streetlamp!
I appreciated all the thoughtful touches the hosts left for guests - wasp spray, cleaning wipes, cookware & various supplies, a couple books etc. The oil lamps were a real pleasure to burn after sunset.

A gem in eastern Kentucky
This was an absolutely incredible stay the amount of space you have to hike and explore is amazing. The views from the cabin area are enough to make you say to yourself “this isn’t the last time I will be coming here” it’s peaceful and quiet and the cabin was perfect and clean. If you need to disappear and reconnect I highly advise if this spot and the hosts were amazing.

Amazing and peaceful
We actually were placed in another of their campsites instead. The Hilltop. We loved it there and look forward to staying again next fall. All night there is a chorus of frogs, crickets, and cicadas. And a clearing above to watch the stars.
Everyone we met were friendly.

Perfect Weekend Getaway
Absolutely gorgeous! The hunting cabin is the perfect getaway. Perfectly slept two and an Aussie. We hiked all of the well marked trails to arches, pastures, and stunning views perfectly capturing the never ending hills of Eastern Kentucky. There’s a creek to play in and fish as well! Cots, pans, wood, almost everything you need but forgot at home is provided on site. I cannot recommend this place enough! The sunset was gorgeous and there’s almost no light pollution so stay gazing was incredible! If you’re hesitating, don’t. We will most certainly be back! Thank you so much Chris and Joanna!
