Loved it!
Great camp site! Close to KC, but definitely away from it all. Shaded camp site, clean, and close to the crick for exploring and wading. Steven is a gracious host and a wonderful man. The kids loved the fishing, ax throwing, and archery. We will be back! Thank you Steven!

Perfect weekend getaway campsite
We spent a weekend at The Hitching Post & have a GREAT time. The campsite was plenty big for two families & had amenities like chairs, bbq grill, swing & firering.
Steve was a great host & helped arrange a visit to the farm next door to meet the animals & a Bigfoot photo-op.

Absolutely stay here
Awesome stay. Large camping area with good tree canopy covering. Mr Steven was very friendly and took us fishing our first day. We were able to visit the neighbor farm the next morning too. Would recommend for any family and we will try to stay again for longer.

Just wonderful!!
This place is a gem!!!! I was a little apprehensive about camping on someone’s land that I had never met before especially with our kids but I’m really happy that we booked at the hitching post because it was such a great experience, especially for our two boys who had not been camping before. The camp itself was really wonderful and had everything you could want when you’re camping with the family. There was a fire pit, a grill top for the fire pit (as well as a charcoal grill), a table, chairs and run leads for the furry kids. There was also a nice little creek close by as well as mowed paths for the kids to roam and explore. Steve, the host, was absolutely wonderful. He made sure that the camp was set up and ready for us he met us at the gate and guided us to our camp. Steve really went above and beyond and had all kinds of fun activities that really made this camping trip for our family. He took us to a farm down the road where the boys got to see, pet, hold all kinds of animals and collect chicken eggs, he took us to an amazing pond where he helped the boys catch some fish, they got to throw knives, tomahawks and shoot bows and arrows (Steve gave VERY thorough safety instructions beforehand). And to top it off, Steve took so many pictures for us! This place is awesome and I highly recommend it to anyone :)

Great secluded camp ground!
I highly recommend this spot! The camp ground was awesome, lots of level ground and a secluded forest feel. We spent lots of time playing in the shallow creek, perfect for our 4/6 year olds. Our camp ground also had a swing, which my girls loved. The host, Steve, couldn't have been more friendly.
The highlight of our trip though, was visiting their farm neighbors. The teenagers that showed us around the farm were extremely nice and patient. They let my kids hold their baby chicks and caught lots of their big chickens for them to hold!
It was very close to the KC metro, so a perfect weekend trip.
The only thing is we wish there had been a port-a-poty or something. We would happily have paid a much higher rate for the camp site if it had some kind of bathtroom!

Delightful stay, unique experience
Steven is a very gracious and knowledgeable host who knows how to have fun! He set up tomahawk, hunting knife, and atlatls with targets, and gave us great instruction on how to throw these safely. Afterwards, we camped at a very well-appointed site with a beautiful canopy of fall leaves overhead and a creek nearby. During the night we heard many sounds of nocturnal animals, which were so interesting to hear--owls, coyotes, deer, and raccoons. We enjoyed our stay immensely and enjoyed the time we spent with Steven. We all definitely want to go back again!

Awesome weekend
This was a great place. Not far from the city but away from it all. We did 2 nights and had all day Saturday to throw knives and hatchets. Explore the property. The creek. Walk the horse, Shilo. Steve was great. Very knowledgeable about the wild life (we saw a snake in the water and asked about it) and very available when we needed him. Water is located at the main house, so we had jugs and he filled them and brought them to our site on his ATV. Bucket toilet was in a private place with a tarp set up around it and not as bad as I feared (haha) Highly Recommend. So much to do here.

Much more than just camping
Steve was great. He told me he would wear my kids out and he did!
He gave them a full lesson in knife throwing, found some animals for them to pet, took them fishing in the pond and had coffee for us in the morning.
The land was beautiful and quiet and there were cows mooing in the distance

We had a great time! The site was easy to find, tidy, and there was plenty to do there to keep us busy. Steven is an energetic and gracious host. As we waved our goodbyes and drove away, my son proclaimed him “a really cool guy.” Now that’s a compliment! We’re already talking about a return trip.

Feel like home!
The campsite was spacious, very isolated, super close to the creek and super quiet. It has lots of personal touch made out of wood that we loved! The kids loved running everywhere, petting the horse, the kittens and other animals. Steve, the host, is very welcoming and make sure your stay is memorable for all ages. Loved the warm coffee in the morning over the fire and all the learning. Thank you Steve for your hospitality and sharing a part of your home with us!

Unique camping experience!
Steven is one of a kind, a rare human being who would go out of his way to help you. In our situation, we had to make an unexpected stop delaying our arrival time prior to dusk. He jumped in and helped us with setting up our tent. He is so approachable.

We loved our stay! Lots to do and great way to camp in our socially distant times. Do have to rough it a little bit more than campground with bathrooms but all and all worth it. Kids really enjoyed the creek, Steven’s animals and the tomahawk throwing. And s’mores around the campfire never hurt. We’ll be back!

Peaceful rural spot, close to I70
A safe and comfortable campsite, convenient to I70 but with a rural feel. We only slept here because we were passing through quickly, so can't speak to the amenities on the property. But it was a peaceful night's sleep, and Steven was a very friendly host.

highly recommend!
Steve's hospitality is AWESOME. He greeted us near his cabin with hot coffee ready over the fire, and gave us a tour around the property. His place is well kept and has a lot of thoughtful personal touches that make the camping experience really great. Also - it was 92 degrees out that day, but our campsite was back in a wooded area by the creek, and we were very comfortable there. The creek is also quite nice - clean and fairly clear, with some bedrock underneath. Our 3 and 7 year old loved playing down there, and the water levels were low enough when we were there, so they were able to wade, swim, and splash around. The site felt very safe and Steve made efforts to personalize our experience based on our kids' interests. There's a lot to do - a pond, the creek, knife and hawk throwing, and a great disc golf course. We were there with another family, but there were two other families camping together on the other side of the property and we never heard them. It felt very private. We will definitely be back! Thanks for a great time, Steve!
