Perfect River Campsite
Gary is an excellent host with some incredible land. Super nice guy. Supplied us with some great firewood, offered us some food they had cooked up at the backup site, and it just felt like if there was anything we needed he would have helped us out. I couldn’t be more jealous of his river property. Highly recommended! I have kayaked the Tippecanoe River from the CCAC to the 650W bridge many times, and this was the most challenging trip of all. I would have never guessed when I booked this campsite that I’d be wishing for MORE water. The river was lowww and made for a challenging trip, particularly for my 11 year old nephew. If you plan on doing this float I recommend Google “USGS Tippecanoe river Ora” and see what the flow/discharge rate is at that station; I’ve found that 400cfs is pretty ideal for fairly low and clear water that is still easily navigable. Currently it’s about 250cfs which is far too low for a clean float.

Great site great kayaking
Kayaking on the tippacanoe river was beautiful. Full of wildlife. Woke in late night to the who who hoo who call of Barr owls and woodpeckers (and a rooster or two) at sunrise. River current is low but definitely not sluggish. Water is crystal clear. Lots of river grass indicating good health of water. Could drift downstream with little effort and upstream was very manageable in terms of how strenuous. Easy portage from the site to the river. The primary campsite next to river was too damp to use and we were car based so the site up on dry ground was perfect. Easy in and out. Plenty of space for our cook tent and Roofnest tent. Can’t drive right up to the river even when dry but it is only a couple hundred yards. Really pretty. Plenty of firewood. Gary said if lucky we might find some native american arrowhead but we didn’t really look but sandy washout areas are the best places to look Gary noted. Area has a lot of history. Highly recommend this river and Gary’s hospitality.

Rogue camping
If you can get back to the river it’s awesome. Not an easy hike with gear. There are other places to camp at the start of the trail that are much easier just not what we were after. The host is super cool met him the week before the trip to look around but never saw him while camping. The river had many trees down and is almost to dangerous to kayak at this point. Make sure you know what areas are clear before trying. Don’t go by what just anyone says. Make sure it’s someone that has recently floated. The bathroom is a bucket in a shed filled with the biggest spiders I’ve ever seen. For a Rogue experience this place was awesome!

Gary’s property is great! Tucked away from everything right off the river. Super quiet with tons of space to spread out. I love that Gary only rents to one group at a time… made for a super quiet and primitive retreat. Gary was a fantastic host, made sure we had fresh cut wood and everything we needed for a great stay! Had fun kayaking, too. Don’t miss the firefly show at night…. magical!

First Group Camping Trip Successful
Gary was the best host you could ask for. We ended up in the back up site but had way more fun than we anticipated. It was a cozy little site that housed 14 of us beautifully. Kayaking on the river right off the site was the cherry on top of a sweet deal. Couldn't have been happier with our experience, and can't recommend this site more. Thanks a ton Gary!

We enjoyed the backup site due to mud and had a blast! 4 families with a mix of tents and campers. The circular site was perfect for us to spread out but also hang out around the fire in the center. Gary greeted us upon arrival and was super responsive. Really great spot!

Great Weekend Getaway
Highly recommend this site for a getaway weekend. Gary was incredibly nice & accommodating. He had a fire going for us when we arrived and made sure we had all we needed for the weekend--he even had an alternate site option in the event there was too much water from the rain. We had more than enough firewood for the weekend and cooked meals, hung out, and enjoyed the river & forest scenery. Would love to come back another time.

Campsite was well taken care of and right on the water’s edge. Great for kayak/canoe access and some bank fishing. Gary was great and you can tell that he really takes pride in providing guests with a pleasant place to stay. Definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a more secluded location to setup camp.

I stayed at Gary’s spot with my dog, and it was perfect for our much needed weekend getaway. The more remote camping location, when it’s not flooded, is incredibly peaceful with the orchestra of birds and wildlife singing in the background. Bring lots of bug spray (: We’ll be back!!

Little Indiana Camping Oasis
Gary’s little camping oasis is a must visit. I’m always in awe of the beautiful places Indiana has to offer and Gary’s land was no exception. The primitive site is just remote enough but not too remote and boasts riverside views (we got a site of a blue heron during a morning dip). The mini cabin/barn feels like a little tiny home and provides good shelter from the rain- we loved the option of it though we set up tent next to it. Gary was the perfect host- very kind and accommodating. He greeted us w his dogs and brought us extra fire wood, and was available for questions, but did not “bother” us beyond that. Five out of five recommend! Thanks, Gary!

Great place to camp. The “backup” sight is where I camped and it was great. Just a short walk to the river, where I went kayaking for most of the day. I plan on returning soon.

Nice camping
Very cool place to be for relaxation. Very nice host, actually asked if we needed anything. Little different than we pictured and really couldn't Camp by the river site to flooding from before but it was a pleasure to walk down to and explore. Great little cabin to chill in. Lots of wood and trails. Use lots of bug spray you are by the river..

We stayed at the backup site due to flooding from the recent storms. The site was setup very well. And the location is beautiful. There were two campfires (one had a proper pit) and plenty of wood. When we got there, we did have to tidy up a bit (tree branches, bottles and beer cans left from previous campers I assume). We heard roosters and sheep at night - which was really funny. Plan ahead for the mosquitos - we just had some spray-on repellent and a couple of candles. We were a little bummed that we couldn't canoe. We paddled out into the water but found a downed tree blocking the river. So we just packed up and went to Winona for the day!

Rustic gem of a shed
Gary kept in touch with me and worked with a last minute date change. The shed is rustic but dealt nicely done up inside with nice wood flooring and walls, ceiling... slept with only the screen door so I could hear the sounds of the Indiana forest. I forgot my key in the on position. Gary responded in 10 minutes with his tractor at 7:00 am to jump my car so I could make it to a car event. What a great host.

A very cool, little spot for fishing an relaxing! A little muddy, and a little buggy, but nothing we couldn't handle. (you are camping, after all) The perfect spot for fishing from the shore or launching a canoe. It was clean, quite and private. Gary was a super host--very helpful and friendly. We hope to head back soon!

Needs some upkeep but great host
It started off pretty wet so it was difficult to get back to the Riverside site. The walkway back there was broken so no clear path. Staying at the backup site was good though too. Gary had a small shed converted to a mini cabin which was nice since my tent leaked 😒. Gary also let me borrow his propane torch since the wood was wet. He is very friendly and helpful. The second night there were other campers close by who frequented my site for access to the toilet. Then they ran the mini bike most of the night too, kind of annoying. But overall I enjoyed my visit. Gary took me up river and dropped me off with a kayak to float down back to his site. It was beautiful and some added obstacles made it fun. I’d visit again when its dry and could stay by the river. Thanks Gary for being so accommodating.

Riverside Fun
What a terrific place to camp! Gary was a fantastic and accommodating host, and the grounds are beautiful. The riverside site is very secluded in a forest with a variety of trees. We had three dogs with us, including one that likes to explore, and it's so secluded that it wasn't much of an issue. The water was decently low, so we were able to use the standard site, but I can confirm that the backup site would also be beautiful when the water is high. (And the outhouse would be closer!) There are plenty of felled trees that you can gather firewood from, and at times, Gary can provide some as well. It may be that he didn't have campers before us - but he had a ton of firewood that we were welcome to. Though the site is pretty dry, plan to get a little muddy. It's surrounded by some swampy areas, but Gary has a few bridges and boards to walk across without much mess. Just if you want to go for a bit of a hike - don't wear shoes that you don't want caked in mud, and watch for stinging nettle. We were able to do some fishing, foraging, and great birdwatching. Though I live nearby, I saw several colorful birds I'm not familiar with. Gary even offered to drop us off upstream with kayaks so we could spend some time on the river, which was surprisingly clear. Due to our short trip, I didn't take him up on his offer, but I'll make a point to next time! This site had something for any who enjoys the outdoors. I highly recommend this place, and will definitely return someday.
