Welcome to Yosemite's Colfax Spring! Home to a basecamp for river rafting trips during the summertime, we are located 15 minutes driving distance to the entrance to Yosemite National Park. If you are staying with us between May - September and want to come rafting, ask us about our river trips! Our camp sits on a ridge with views down into the Tuolumne River Canyon. The Tuolumne River begins at 13,000 feet of elevation in the High Country of Tuolumne Meadows and provides drinking water for over 2.7 million people in San Francisco. With cedar and pine trees, manzanita bushes, and wildflowers in the spring, enjoy the Sierras' flora and fauna. Our family has been operating our river rafting company for nearly 50 years, the last 11 of those years being here at Colfax Spring. Conveniently located off Highway 120, we are in close proximity to countless swimming holes, hikes, and more. Enjoy the privacy of our campsite and getting world-class views to yourself, with all of the amenities (flushing toilets, wi-fi, showers.)

Tioga Camp: Vans Only
Worst experience of our trip
Unfortunately the disappointment started immediately upon arrival. We followed the hosts directions to get to our site, only to find half of our site being occupied by a bulldozer and excavator and the other half mostly taken up by the group camping next to us. The group came over to our car to ask if we were camping here and informed us that they were told by the host that the whole upper area (where the site we booked is located) was closed for construction and they could have the run of the whole area. After hearing this I immediately messaged the host for clarification and went down the the main building to look for someone. After multiple unanswered calls I finally get a message back approximately 30 mins later simply saying that there is a different site open and I could take that one instead. This other site however was not nearly as conducive to camping in my roof top tent as I had discussed with the host when booking my stay that our original site would be. Also the new site still had a full trashcan and a tent set up in the site. The host informed us that the tent was rented form them and if we wish we could put in the effort to unstrap and move their tent out of our site for them. How gracious. After a bit of messaging the hosts husband finally showed up at the property and moved the tent (approximately 30ft so it now sat at the edge of our site instead of the middle) and took out the trash. Now after dark we could finally set up camp. Definitely do not recommend.

The location was great! Woke up to incredible views of the valley & the waterfall down below every morning. Liza was super easy to communicate with & helped with every question that I had. Can't wait to visit during rafting season again. Highly recommend this campsite :)

Best camping experience!
I would recommend staying here over any other campground in the Yosemite area. The view was amazing, the privacy was good, and the bathrooms/showers were clean and very nice. We had a great stay and love waking up to such a pretty view.

Exceptional View/Close to Park
My wife and I and our two pups really enjoyed our stay at Main Tuolumne camp. We woke up everyday to a fantastic view of the canyon and waterfalls (you can actually hear them from the campsite). Only 20 minute drive from park entrance and 50 minutes from the Yosemite Valley. As advertised, the bathrooms/showers were nice with plenty of hot water. Marty and Liza were both awesome from booking through the stay as they gave great recommendations and also ensured everything was going well during our stay. The only potential negative is that you can hear cars going by on Hwy 120 but we did not find this to be a problem. If you aren’t staying in the park, this is the way to go and you will not be disappointed.

Lovely views!
I loved this campsite! The views were lovely and there were convenient platforms for tents and water coolers set up at each site. The showers looked newly renovated and were very clean. Camping in November meant the wind was pretty strong up on the gorgeous cliff but I imagine this breeze would be nice in the warmer weather

Beautiful views 🏕️
Loved tent camping. Beautiful views to wake up to every morning. Liza was very communicative and helped us with all our needs. We went during the cold season so the hot showers were a big plus. Definitely coming back here in the spring/summer months!

We loved camping here! Everything was great and peaceful. The fire ring we requested was there before we arrived and the view was amazing. Bathrooms were clean and they gave us a cooler with water which was awesome. I highly recommended camping here and we can’t wait to come back!

The better KOA!
This was such an amazing camping site! The views were to die for and the amenities were perfect, easy to use, extremely accessible. Extremely close and BOOKABLE camping for Yosemite visitors (I literally want no one know of this place because it’s a true diamond in the rough). The sites were spaced out enough to feel that quiet solitude of the wilderness, without feeling totally alone and unsafe. Finally, while these are absolutely necessary for safety and ease, the platform was a bit uncomfortable to sleep over. SO, just bring an extra sleeping pad and tons of extra blankets and you’ll be fine. I 100% intend to camp here again!

Great platforms with some nice views, the bathroom/shower situation is also really nice. It is right off 120 so can be a bit loud at times. The neighbors across the valley were also partying a couple of the nights. You can get in to the the park in about 30 minutes and it's another 30 to the main valley area. Really convenient base to explore the wonders of Yosemite!

A great base for exploring Yosemite
We stayed for two nights in an Escape camper van; the location was perfect for exploring Yosemite Valley. Amazing views from our pitch at the top of the hill. The facilities are amazing; clean flushable toilets and clean, hot showers with towels and soap provided. We met the owners of the site who were incredibly friendly and gave us some great trips for the rest of our trip. We would definitely stay here again.

Waterfall Views!
Amazing valley view including a waterfall! This site was wonderfully located with excellent amenities AND it is super close to the park entrance. The hot showers were clutch after a long day of hiking they were clean and well stocked and I loved that they provided towels because I didn’t have to use mine and then pack it wet. Also, each site had a platform for the tent which we didn’t use since we were in a van but it was perfect for star gazing. Marty was an excellent host and we would definitely stay again!

Merced Camp: Tents/Small Vans
This campsite was very comfortable and had all the amenities listed, but the sites were a bit close together. Also, there are huge powerlines stretching right overhead, so you can hear some noise from those as well as noise from the freeway nearby. It wasn't as quiet and remote as I hoped it would be. Nevertheless, the views were beautiful. The host was very helpful and responsive too.

Loved it so much I was back the same month! Stayed at the upper tuolume campsite which had incredible views of the hills and nearby water fall. Was still very private. Platform was very big and acted as a great side table ! Tom and Liza were super friendly as always and I’ll definitely be coming back again soon!

Clavey Camper Site
We had a wonderful stay at Clavey Camper Site. Marty and Tom were so very nice. Marty let us explore his Museum at the top of the property filled with so many fascinating things to see. He even has a time machine he’s building. About a mile away is Rainbow Pools and Falls, a must see. Even in September the falls were going strong, we definitely want to come back in the spring time to see them and the Tuolumne River. So many things to do nearby. Yosemite, Evergreen Lodge with its restaurant, Gift and coffee shop. The town of Groveland is like a page out of an old magazine. The bathroom and shower were very nice, our son said they were better than any hotel. We would definitely recommend Clavey Camper Site.

Second time back!
Second time back in a month! This is one of the best camping spots around. The views into the nearby hills and valley are unbeatable and it’s super close to Yosemite and there’s also another town nearby. Stayed at the upper Tuolomme campsite, very private with a spectacular view of the waterfalls and the hills. Platform was big and sturdy. Liza is always very welcoming and friendly! Will definitely be coming back soon

10/10 - camping with views
Fantastic camping site outside of Yosemite! I was in the tenaya site and it had some incredible views. Liza was very welcoming and communicative and responded whenever I had questions. The site came with a picnic table and there’s was a cooler set up with water nearby which was a nice touch. Another camper was at the site over but our cars were between us so it was very private. Bathrooms and shower were very clean and only a short walk away. Wifi was a good option to have to look up nearby hikes. Yosemite requires reservations from 6-4, this site was only 15 minutes away from entrance so I woke up early and got there before 6 then took a nap on the road :) Things to note: - the Yosemite valley is about an hour away but that’s pretty standard if you’re staying anywhere outside of the valley - You do hear the cars from the nearby road but again this is standard for any site outside Yosemite, it does quiet down at night Overall would definitely recommend and will def be back !!

We Love Nala puppy!!!
Liza is a wonderfully welcoming host. Quick to greet and give suggestions on things to do in the area. Specifically Yosemite (gate is 15 min away) . But don’t skip the rainbow pool down the road. Perfect dip after long drive and only minutes away. ($8 to park, bring cash) The shower/bathroom was best campground bathroom I’ve been at. All private rooms and LAVENDER SOAP! Depending on where your site is at you may have beautiful view of the surrounding hills. 10/10 recommend.
