Cannonball Camp
Beautiful Environment and Night Sky
Cannonball camp is a great campsite. Mackenzie is a great host and made us feel welcome. I have camped here in winter and summer and enjoyed both experiences. The water and boating options are great in the warm weather. The site is also great for groups. If you're a fan of stargazing you will appreciate the night sky here. Paintball is also an option but Ive yet to try it out. There are cool sculptures at the end of some of the hiking trails that you must check out. For the EV folks, theres a charging station with all charge port styles only 10mins away. The porta potties are convenient. Check this place out!

Lakeside Camp
My friends and I enjoyed our time in Mendocino Magic during a cold weekend of November. Mackenzie was responsive before the trip and welcoming once we got there. We enjoyed the serene view of the lake and the surrounding hills, the clear studded skies at night, and the sounds of birds and other wildlife (coyotes, perhaps?) The weather was too cold to take a dip in the lake - keep that in mind if you plan on visiting at these times. Highly recommend!

Seriously rad space! No joke magic is in the air <3 Wish we had more time to check it all out but the disco ball in the trees stole my heart!
Good people in the staff for our small interactions! We happened upon a cold night car camping and the kitchen space in AM was a savior! Our dog very much enjoyed the space, hope to come back in warmer weather for water activities!

Amazing time at Mendocino Magic! The hosts were super nice and accommodating. The property was beautiful and we were some of the only people around the reservoir swimming. Highly recommend!

Cannonball Camp
We were happy to have a site right on the reservoir. There were not many people when we went, so we were able to borrow all the kayaks and paddle around until the clouds rolled in. The camping area is dusty dirt, so bring a tarp if you have one. There was a jug of water provided, which was so thoughtful. Not far to the porta pottie. We were able to transport our stuff up to the campsite and bring it back, which was really great not to carry everything in. I wish we’d come on a hotter weekend so we could actually cannonball. The dock off the campsite was nice to stand on and peek at the fish. Mackenzie and her partner were helpful and checked in to make sure we were okay. We will definitely go back.

The Jennifer Cottage
We had a lovely time at the cottage. The pond it overlooks is a little boggy, but what do expect in a dry area, right? It’s a nice walk to the reservoir. And there are fairy lights that lead the way if you want to go at night. It feels secluded, while still being close if we wanted to head down to the common area. Mackenzie and her partner were very friendly. Someone complained about cobwebs. Not sure why you would expect no insects in the woods. It’s a cottage, not a luxury rental. We found it to be perfect for our needs.

SO MANY STARS. Just go camp!
So serene. Camp staff stopped on their rounds twice to see if I was good or needed anything. Twinkle lights in the trees were a bonus I didn't expect. Nice quiet night watching the stars. The outdoor shower on my way out have me just the invigorating start I needed to my day off driving.

Great Perseid Event
We got in late Friday night but Mackenzie and friends were still up and directed us to pick any open spot. The porta potties were clean, there was running water (non potable) and a sink, and we were at a spot away from others. The perseid event was very cute, lots of hot tea and great soup, and beautiful even with the full moon that weekend. The best part of the property was the private lake- I want to come back in a cabin with more friends and spend all day lakeside.

Stargazing!
Mackenzie is genuine and considerate, and I’m glad to be writing this review. A very good hostess. The land itself is beautiful and spacious. The campsites are spread out, some near a communal area (with grills and large firepit). We brought our little dogs, who had a blast. Our purpose was stargazing. The skies were clear and our views of the Milky Way were some of the best I’ve experienced. We walked up to an observation point, laid flat on our backs, and caught the tail end of a meteor shower. The location is relatively close to the ocean, which is to say a windy 35-45 minute scenic drive. All in all, a lovely place.

Camping with 8 year old and dog.
This was our first trip to Mendocino Magic and we had a great time! We spent hours swimming and kayaking in the reservoir and hiking around the grounds. Mackenzie was very welcoming and her husband was so kind in bringing my wife, 8 year old son and myself to the awesome paintball course on the property for target practice.
We will now make this an annual stop on our camping adventures!

Cannonball Camp
Awesome Lakeside Camping
We had an awesome time camping at cannonball this past weekend. We spent the entire day in the lake floating around and jumping off the dock. At night, we just stared up at the stars for hours. I would highly recommend this place to a friend and found it to be better than described.

Lakeside Camp
Gorgeous even with Bad Neighbors
Lakeside camp was an absolute dream. We spent our days swimming and kayaking on crystal clear blue waters on the reservoir and pitched our tents right on the shore of the lake. We went down to the communal camp at nights and met so many wonderful people. Makenzie and her staff were so lovely and accommodating and put on a beautiful event for the meteor shower complete with a tea station, resident astronomy photographer, and soup service (I assumed the soup would be packaged and was so excited to see it was made from scratch by an awesome chef). The land and reservoir are just incomparable. The only downside to our entire stay was the campers at the camp at the other side of the lake blasted d-list Mykonos beach party house music for 48 hours straight because it was apparently 'Caitlin's birthday' and Caitlin is more important than the sanity of everyone else at the camp. We realized when we left they had actually been asked to turn it off multiple times and just straight up ignored the staff. Caitlin, if you ever read this, I hate you and I hope you got socks for your birthday. 10/10 would camp again otherwise.

We stayed here for one night as we passed through the area. The property is gorgeous but definitely a little rough around the edges. It kind of felt like we were camping at a music festival which was fine because we love music festivals. The shower was funky but the water was hot, porta potties were the only bathrooms we saw. Lots of tasty blackberries to pick!

Sawmill Cabin
The sawmill cabin was charming and nice. Enjoyed our stay. Mackenzie is really nice and there was lots of equipment to use both inside the cabin and on the property. They have outdoor showers close by.

NOT MAGIC but a campground. We showed up and we’re confused on where to go. The showers were cold- also Laytonville not cute. It was definitely a nice place to stop off of the 1 but a bit out of the way.

I Was Bamboozled
Just know - the quality of the website does not match the quality of the camp site.
We’ve camped and backpacked before - if we were prepared this would have been fine for one night.
However this is our honeymoon and we were attempting to do a little more comfortable, less stressful camping up the Pacific North Coast Highway.
Don’t know why - but this place searches as having flushing toilets and electricity on Hipcamp. It does… but not like you would think. Overall, if we had stayed, it would have been a hot, dusty endeavor. Don’t be fooled this is nowhere near the town of Mendocino, let alone the coast.

I love their new electrical hookups for RV’s. The entire property is so well maintained and the people we me during our visit were wonderful. This is a wonderful, safe but rural environment to stay at with a great reservoir and trails to explore. Mackenzie is a wonderful host!!

Cannonball Camp
Our group had a great weekend hanging out right on (and in) the water at cannonball camp! Mackenzie shuttled up all our stuff for us in her truck (we got shuttled as well!), so we didn’t have to carry anything in. The camp has a picnic table and some long tables, with a 10gal water container waiting for us. Being right on the water was awesome! At first I was worried about being able to swim because it wasn’t going to be hot out, but the reservoir was a nice temperature (warmer than the air) and we spent the whole morning in the water. There are a bunch of kayaks for use as well, and there’s a nice walk around the reservoir (look out for poison oak). Only two campsites on the lake so was very quiet at night. Loved our time here!
