Such a nice hidden place that felt like away from any towns but still close by in case we needed anything. Great proximity to all the Apple hill farms too.

Always a great place to stay every year when we visit Apple Hill. Gordon is very accommodating and kind. His land is private and we feel very safe. The added trail hike around the camp was beautiful.

Plantation Group Site - RVs OK
Fun Getaway!
Madrone Tree Hill is a great location for a weekend getaway. We camped at Groupsite #1 (Plantation campsite) and it was perfect for our group (16 total). We had several children in our group (six months old to five years old) and the kids had a great time running around the open campsite, roasting marshmallows, and hiking the trails on the property. We plan on making this our regular campsite! We would highly recommend this site to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun camping experience. It is the perfect distance from Sacramento and close to all the wonderful Apple Hill farms. Frank, the person who works on site, was very nice and helpful during our stay. Gordon, the owner, is responsive and also very helpful. They were available when needed without being intrusive while we were there. They make a great team!
Tips: - rent the individual outhouse/port-o-potty for your group
- Walk the trail to Rainbow Orchards for apple cider donuts, hot cider, and mulled wine
- Consider taking an RV if you plan on camping in the winter with very small children as it is a nice option to have if it gets too cold for a tent
Enjoy your stay!

We loved our stay at Madrone Tree Hill! The weather was chilly but we came prepared. Luckily we were able to get a fire going for cooking and during the day got to explore Apple Hill farms. The space was very well kept and will definitely be coming back !

2nd visit and won’t be my last
It was raining most of my stay, but honestly…it didn’t bother me. I was prepared for it and had everything I needed to stay dry. I stayed at site 25 this time and it was definitely more tucked away. You do have a site across the way that is visible, but it’s not right on top of you. This site is close to the road and the gate. You will hear beeps when the gate opens and closes, and there is road noise. It wasn’t too bothersome to me, but if you can’t handle road noise, not the site for you. It is huge and truly such a beautiful spot with the tall pine trees. I hiked all the trails in the morning when there was no rain. Absolutely good workout and beautiful maintained trails and property. Cannot recommend this place enough. Thanks again for a lovely stay! Having a fire to stay warm and dry during the rain was a big plus!

Great property and location! Exactly as described. Lovely site, clean portable toilets, sink close by. Trails were well groomed. Short trip, but much fun despite the rain.

Really beautiful camp ground, lots and lots of trees. Campsites are great! Complete with pic nic table, chairs, fire pit, fire extinguisher, and bucket of water. Clean Porta potties and out door sinks. Good communication and directions from Gordon. Great location in the center of Apple Hill, where there is plenty of sight seeing and vendor shopping at the farms. We had a good meal at the Forester Pub and a great breakfast at the Sportsmans Hall. We are a Airbnb host, so we appreciated all the detail to camping needs. We look forward to camping there again and bringing family and friends.

Great site - lots of extra bonuses
This is our second time group camping at Madrone Hill. We had such a fun time and will definitely be back again. Love the gas firepit and grills. Also so nice to have space and not be right up against another campsite. The kids love the proximity to the apple orchard and the adults love the brewery - all just a short and beautiful walk along a trail in the campground. Extra bonus was enjoying the haunted forest they had set up this year.

Perfect location! Frank, the weekend host, was super friendly. Overall, a great stay!
To be honest, the only down side is that it is the most expensive campsite we've ever stayed in and there isn’t even a trash dumpster. We camp all the time and I would say, I would, at most, expect to pay $40 for the site. That said, we would stay there again, we would just really hope for a dumpster included in the expensive price.

Gordon was a friendly host who greeted us when we arrived and offered to help us back our camper into it's spot. He had a haunted forest event on his property and he was great about communicating with us about the event parking and entrances and exits. I loved the Halloween decorations, and the old Christmas tree forest is a little spooky, perfect for Halloween. The stars popped, and the night was dark. In fact, I recommend getting there before dark on your first night to find your campsite. I loved how we could walk to the orchard across the street!

Camping under starry night sky
It was nice to be camping there under a clear night sky, saw lots of stars in the sky, and the temperature was just right sleeping in my tent with my sleep bag.
I checked in late around 8PM on a Staturday evening, missed the host but they been super responsive when i got questions through the app.
Was a great stay, the next day took a hike on the Jenkinson Lake loop trail, took me almost 4 hours (normally it's 3.5hr), was a fun hike.
Over all, great experience, would love to recommend to anyone.

Apple Hill - best spot ever!
The most beautiful spot! The host for the weekend - Frank- was a great guy! This is our second stay there and it’s an amazing spot. We would TOTALLY recommend this camp for anyone who wanted a private spot but still wanted to enjoy everything Apple Hill has to offer! Gordon (owner) has big plans for his family property- can’t wait to come back next spring!
