Tonya and her family are very kind, friendly people. My son (age 12), especially, took a liking to them and they treated him graciously. He was actually pretty bummed as we left. It is an absolutely beautiful setting with gorgeous night skies- definitely a place to camp if you want to stargaze. The horses can be a little intimidating. One of the horses took to pawing at our tent pretty extensively (worrying me about sleeping too close to the sides of our tent) and rubbing his head on our car, scratching the paint. At another point, six horses attempted to crowd underneath our canopy while we were trying to relax. We sent Tonya a message, asking her to move them to the other pasture (something she offered to do when we first got there) and it was three hours before one of the guys came up to do that. I don't fault the horses- they're merely doing what horses do- and I'm sure Tonya would have remedied the situation sooner if she were able. Just realize that if you're going to camp with the horses, you will definitely get an up-front-and-personal experience. ;-)
Hospitality was great. As non horse people it was an experience sleeping in a field with them. All the horses were very friendly and will definitely come by to say hi.
What a cool, unique place to stay! We truly enjoyed every moment. Tonya was a great host and we felt very at home. The view can't be beat, and the horses were great company. :)
Worth the drive for sure, would highly recommend!
If you're looking for a rural farm experience, this is it! My boyfriend and I love an opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle. The camp spot had a fire ring and was on top of a large hill that overlooked rolling hills and pastures. However, if you want to just look at the animals this is not for you. We were awaken by a literal heard of horses looking in our tent, but we enjoyed this fun surprise and the animals. Thank you for sharing this experience with us Tonya!
A unique and wonderful experience!
This was the perfect ending to our vacation. My 9 year old sister was head over heels in love with these horses, so much so that she cried when it was time to leave. We will definitely be back. It ended up being the favorite part of our trip, for my sister's, my dad, my husband, and myself.
Dragonfly ranch, a dream come true!
For a nine and 11-year-old, heading up to visit with grandma and grandpa could only get better with a stay at a horse farm along the way! We arrived late in the evening, slept under the stars, and woke up in what seemed to be the most beautiful dream. Tonya was a gracious and thoughtful host. As we drove up to the ranch, we lost cell service (make sure to have handwritten directions if possible), and it just so happened that Tonya was heading home. She met us a couple of miles up the road and led us back to the ranch. A few additional and equally kind people helped us get settled, and as we were getting acclimated with the logistics, a few horses came over to welcome us as well. Tonya was so warm and loved her horses and the ranch, making the stay that much more enjoyable!
