We created the Sunrise Shelter as your getaway on our organic farm. We built a three-sided shelter with a platform, so have a shady, dry place to roll out your sleeping bags, hang your hammock (we have hooks), or pitch your tent. The shelter is in the woods and faces east, so you'll have a view of sunrise through the forest, right from your sleeping bag. You'll have your own campfire ring and picnic table, and potable water and composting toilet are less than a minute walk away. Your parking spot is about 100' from the shelter.

The Sunrise Shelter is located just behind our 1800's barn, so you'll have a sense of privacy - and, depending of the time of year, baby chicks for neighbors. There's limited cell service here at the farm, so you can unplug; the frogs, lightning bugs, and woods will keep you occupied instead!

Our Farm (Nightfallfarm.com) is a sustainable livestock farm, where we raise animals on pasture and sell meat and eggs locally. There's lots to explore here at our farm: see our pigs, chickens, turkeys, and lambs; walk in our woods and restored wetlands; or stroll along the Muscatatuck River.

We can add on a casual farm tour where kids of all ages check out the farm animals and see how we're bringing this land back to life.

A few Fall ideas (just google them!):

1. Corn Maze Beer Fest at 450 North Brewing

2. Apple picking and pumpkins at Huber Winery

3. Madison, Indiana Chautauqua (arts festival)

4. Paddle or hike among the Fall leaves

Our farm is about 20 minutes from fun, family-friendly paddling options and easy hikes at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge and Hardy Lake State Recreation area (bring your kayak or canoe!). It's about a 30 minute drive to our favorite hikes at Clifty Falls State Park and Jackson-Washington State Forest, where you can find steep hills and hollers, excellent views, fossils, creeks, and waterfalls.

Staying here was perfect for a peaceful place to sleep while on a long road trip. The hosts were very welcoming and walking around the farm was great. I was also treated to a showing of hundreds of fireflies lighting up the area around the shelter as the sun went down

This campsite was exactly what we needed - a quiet escape! Liz was welcoming and informative. We loved the private camping area, nearby hiking trail, and fuzzy chick neighbors. What a wonderful hidden gem, not too far from the interstate. Can't wait to have the opportunity to return!

I really can’t say enough about how wonderful our stay was. The shelter was charming and had enough for us all to hang hammocks ( myself and 3 kids !) the Shelter is placed where you feel completely private and peaceful. But also close enough it’s easy to
Unload the car and get water etc. the farm itself is wonderful. Liz and Nate are amazing humans doing wonderful ( and hard!) and work. They were so patient with all our many questions and so kind. The animals are all
So beautiful and healthy and the countryside is peaceful and full of birds and and roads and frogs and bunnies and we saw a bald eagle - all around a truly wonderful experience.

Thank you for these kind words, Emily - and for Hipcamping at our farm! It was a delight seeing the kids' curiosity, and taking you all on a farm tour. I love that you came with a whole list of questions. : ) I'm glad our farm could be part of your monthly camping trips. Have fun on your next adventures, and come back soon.

Our hosts were great! Had a relaxing and quiet evening camping. Enjoyed seeing the animals on the farm, taking a hike on the trail near the property, and meeting their pets who were all super friendly. Will definitely be back!

So much love for this "off the beaten path" farm.. Liz welcomed us graciously, showed us to the shelter, facilities, and water source. then gave us an impromptu tour of the farm and animals and answered my endless string of questions without any sense of urgency to get to, what I imagine, is her endless list of chores! They were so kind and all too accommodating! <3 <3

My sister and I stayed at Nightfall Farm on our way to and from Red River Gorge (from Chicago) and it was the PERFECT stopping off point near enough to the highway but tucked away in peaceful lovely farmland area. Liz and Nate were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Our first night we arrived quite late so they made us a very helpful guided video to make sure we could find our way without issue. We decided we'd like to come back on our way back to Chicago but the Sunrise Shelter was already booked, so Liz and Nate offered another space that was not yet listed to accommodate us. It was totally private and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to visit again some time!

I am a big fan of the Sunrise Shelter - I stopped by again on this year's trip through Indiana. The shelter was just the breath of secluded fresh air I needed out of my normal city life. Autumn was just beginning on the farm, and the cool night air was amazing (and the colors of the sunrise were fantastic). Really appreciated the outdoor shower in the warm day!
