A safe place
We rented a camper van and I was worried that we wouldn’t get spots at state parks so I was happy to see this as a safe home base. They have a platform for a tent but if you are in a camper van you basically just park in the driveway. They also include having a toilet on the listing but I couldn’t find it anywhere and when I texted to inquire they never responded. They were quick to respond when we arrived but when we pulled up there was a lady there that said she lived there and had no idea what hipcamp was or what we were doing there. I messaged again and they assured me it was all good. I asked about the toilet and they said it was in the back by the platform but when I went back there, I couldn’t find it. I messaged saying as much and they never responded to me for the next two days or attempted to come talk to us while we were camping on their property. All in all it is a safe place to stay but I was I was disappointed to not have a bathroom since I was expecting one and by the fact that they never responded to me.
Ghost host. no go.
I followed directions and called multiple times on day of my stay, host never answered. I left text messages also, no answer. I drove to the pin, did not look as host described. Drove around looking for half hour In the rain… ended up sleeping in my car in a church parking lot.
Kai’s spot is a tropical slice of the North Shore in Kauai. There are a lot of mosquitos, but we mostly buzzed from their warm hospitality. We arrived with a pop up tent on our truck and Kai was happy to accommodate us in the driveway.
Nothing fancy, but great price!!
Site is perfect for what it is. It’s a platform for a tent. Getting to the platform was a bit slippery but manageable.
The platform itself had a couple of screws that were poking out from the plywood. These were easy to navigate around once we saw/felt them but you have to be careful or you’ll tear your tent or pop your air mattress.
Beautiful area, highly recommend!
I would absolutely recommend this site to anyone in the area looking for a unique place to stay. We booked this location last-minute when another reservation went awry, and couldn't have been happier with the choice! As it is in a rainy part of the island, make sure to have your rain fly and bug nets on hand. :) The hosts were incredibly welcoming and full of great recommendations for activites, restaurants, and highlights of the island.
I would definitely call in advance for guidance on getting to the site. Connection was limited for At&t as we got closer to the property.
