We absolutely loved staying at Richloam Private Camp!! It was our first trip in our new camper and it was perfect! The owner is the best and was there to help with anything we needed and the camp was private and in the middle of the beautiful Richloam woods! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience for our first camping trip!! We will definitely be staying there again!

We just enjoyed 4 perfectly restorative nights under the beautiful pine trees at Richloam Private Camp.

To get to the camp, you need to drive into the Richloam Wildlife Management Area and follow it down the limestone road quite a ways. We were worried at first that hauling our camper down a non-paved road would be problematic, but the road was in perfect condition. They maintain it so well that there really is no difficulty driving down.

Once we got there, Todd (the Host) greeted us warmly and made us feel totally at home and comfortable. He told us everything we needed to know, and did an excellent job of also educating us about the local wildlife and plant life. It was informative and friendly - the perfect way to set the tone for our escape.

He had warned us in advance that there was no cell signal out there, and that was absolutely true. I personally enjoyed being completely unplugged, but my husband enjoys watching TV at night so he set up our weBoost antenna and we immediately got 2-3 bars and were able to stream Netflix easily. If you have that antenna system, be sure to point it straight west, since the closest cell tower is 6ish miles in that direction.

As a Florida native, I was worried about camping in Florida in the summer. But having water and electric was wonderful. We woke up early to eat breakfast outside, enjoying listening to the Sandhill Cranes calling to each other. We saw cardinals and enjoyed the sound of the crickets welcoming in the day. Then when the heat got too strong we'd go in and siesta, and then come back out in the late afternoon / evening to grill our supper.

When we needed to stretch our legs, we had options. First we drove down to the Richloam General Store to check out all their old-timey (and delicious) goods and grab a scoop of ice cream. We could also walk down the limestone road until we came to little side roads, and we would then walk down those and look for animal tracks. We saw deer, coyote, and turtle tracks.

This was our first experience using HipCamp, and I couldn't be more satisfied. It was exactly what our souls needed, and we were so grateful to also meet a new friend. Highly recommended to anyone looking for solitude and simplicity.

Todd was a great host - he met us at the site and gave us a brief orientation of the area. The campsite is flat and hookups were easy. The grounds are large grassy clearing and hunting camp within a pine forest, and were quite private (we were alone, although it is close to an unpaved road with some daytime traffic.) There was a large firepit and Todd provided plenty of firewood. We tied our hammock between a few pine trees and watched the tree tops sway in the breeze. It was a nice place to disconnect and spend a weekend in "Old Florida".
