If you are looking for a hybrid of Jungle River Cruise and Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, you’ve found the perfect island get away. Seriously, If you truly want a unique, private, and environmentally diverse camp then Camp Windsong Island is the spot for you. Camp Windsong Island is a rare private island located in the beautiful clear fish filled backwaters of Ozello, Florida. Nestled between the Crystal River National Wildlife Preserve and the St. Martins Aquatic Marsh Reserve on the Salt River. It is a total of 17 acres, really three small islands. We have manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, sea birds, fishing galore, crabbing, scalloping, and much more.
A newly built fishing cabin awaits you with sleeping for four. The only way to access island is by water. Small flat bottom boats, John boats, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards are the best ways to get there. We can transport your supplies for you. We also have kayaks and a canoe if needed. It is a mile and half paddle one way or about 30 minute paddle from the boat ramp give or take depending on wind, current and experience. There is no electricity or water. The terrain on the island is a bit rough, meaning rocky and lots of tree roots. For the past two years Pete and I have been clearing overgrown and invasive plants/trees from the island and building the fishing cabin boat trip by boat trip in our 14 ft flats boat. It has been a labor of love and think you will love it as much as we do. Can’t wait to share Camp Windsong with you!
Note: The reason we have you request a booking is so we can verify that you have a way to the island.

Secluded, peaceful, crazy fun time
Such an amazing time. Pete and Pam were very friendly and accommodating. Saw so many dolphins and herons, went fishing around the entire island catching a ton of catfish and even a bonnet head shark. It was a phenomenal break from the big city in general and the icing on the cake was being able to see so many stars. Highly recommend staying here, we definitely plan to again!
Fun times at camp windsong!
What a fun & unique experience! A drive through the lower Crystal River delta to an end-of-road meeting with excellent hosts Pam & Pete with kayaks and directions for the 1.5 mile paddle to a sweet lil cabin! Fun time, place & experience! Highly recommend- Pam & Pete are totally helpful/accommodating!
Great river island experience!
We really enjoyed our time at Camp Windsong. The island was a great place to set up a hammock and just relax and enjoy nature. This isn't the best river to swim in, but we had the best time kayaking around viewing dolphins and the most beautiful sunset. The cabin was well stocked, and having the camping stove was very convenient. We did get quite hot during the night, just because the air doesn't circulate well, but this is to be expected in August in Florida. This is a great place to get off the grid and have a unique camping experience!
Had a fantastic time at Windsong Island! We absolutely could not have asked for better hosts! Pamela and Pete were honestly amazing and went out f their way to ensure that we had the perfect stay. This island is a kayakers paradise. If you are looking to just get away and love primitive camping this is definitely a must stay. There are both beautiful sunrises as well as sunsets. We are so happy we are locals because we plan on becoming regular campers here.
