The Ranch

We just got this place gifted to our small family and are very gracious for it. We don't have much but we're working hard to be self sustainable.Learn more about this land:This is basically a wide open sagebrush grass pasture land my family is homesteading. We've got very basic accommodations. Camping is anywhere you want as long as you leave no trace (ish). Rocky Ford creek fishing less than a mile away. The George Amphitheatre less than 45 min away. (Designated driver to and from concerts can be prearranged for an additional charge) . Plus countless lakes around us full of fish, swimming, and fun. We do have an electric fence on property. It really hurts. Don't touch it.

The best camping near Potholes State Park guide

Overview

About

You have the Ice Age to thank for carving out the "potholes" that make up O'Sullivan Reservoir. This park hugs the western shoreline in Moses Lake, featuring a landscape of desert shrubs and marshes. Spanning 630 acres, the park is a gateway for water sports galore.

Get ready for boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing and any other water activity you can imagine. Shove off from one of four boat launches (don't forget to grab your permit). For onshore fun, there are 3 miles of hiking trails, volleyball fields, and a horseshoe pit.

From glamping to rustic tent camping, you have plenty of overnight options in Potholes. The five heated and air-conditioned log cabins are just a short walk from the shoreline.

The park also hosts 60 RV sites with full hook-ups, 61 basic camping sites, and a dump station.

Insider tip: Plan an August trip to see sandpipers, stilts and plovers take over the mud flats.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early to secure your spot, as Potholes State Park is a popular destination for campers and nature enthusiasts alike.
  • Check for cancellations regularly, as plans change and you might snag a last-minute reservation.
  • Consider visiting during the shoulder seasons for better availability and a quieter camping experience.
  • Explore nearby camping options to ensure you have a backup plan in case the park is fully booked.

When to go

The best time to visit Potholes State Park is during the summer months, from 6:30am to dusk, when the weather is warm and all facilities are open. Winter visits offer a serene experience from 8am to dusk, but be prepared for cooler temperatures and fluctuating water levels.
