On the south side of the farmhouse is a 80-year-old huge pecan tree. You can enjoy wooded walking paths in the 90-acre forest and pastures, ponds and wildlife, including deer, wild hogs, hawks, owls, roadrunners, doves, cardinals, jays, woodpeckers, mockingbirds, and many other species of birds. Small mammals such as armadillos, rabbits, and squirrels are often seen, and the property is also awesome for stargazing. Please watch out for snakes, scorpions, pesky mosquitoes and ticks. This land has been a huge blessing to us and we hope you will enjoy your stay here. Arrival time should be no later than 9pm. Please inquire before booking if your arrival time might be later. In 2013, we bought our 13 acres from a larger parcel of land that had been owned and farmed by the Snider family for 150 years. (Note that we live on Snider Lane). The Sniders played an important part in the development of our town, Lucas, and surrounding schools. The rest of the land has been sold to two families, and all three purchasers (that includes us!) are establishing small family farms. Hurray! Plus the Snider's old house and barn next door are being renovated by the new owners! Since 2013, we have brought in water and electricity to the land, built fences, a house and several barns. We have a flock of chickens, a bunch of loud, nosey Nubian dairy goats, 2 cats and 2 dogs. We farm organic vegetables, and have planted some fruit trees.We are committed to conservation of our land and the wildlife that call it home, and are working to restore our wildflower meadow (location of the campsite) to original prairie state.
