CALLING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS! Welcome to Valais Ranch & Retreat! When you stay at VDR&R, you get so much more than your typical camping trip, you're getting a truly magical and unforgettable, dopamine-boosting experience unlike no other, that will have you returning again and again! :) Hi! We are Lolly & Eric Clough, and we named our ranch after the Swiss Valais Blacknose Sheep (a.k.a. "The World's Cutest Sheep!") If you've never heard of this ADORABLE breed of sheep, you absolutely MUST. GOOGLE. THEM... and like so many others, you will fall in love just like we did - so much so that we became part of the official breed-up program to bring this wonderful breed to the U.S.! (You're welcome!) :) We currently have 10 wonderful Valais Blacknose sheep and lambs! We also have 4 Nigerian Dwarf goats and 2 baby goats, and the sweetest miniature donkey you'll ever meet, named Walther! :) All of our animals have free range of our property during the day, but are penned up at night to keep them safe. *** IMPORTANT TO NOTE: We strongly recommend bringing ear buds/plugs to block out the barking of our LGDs (livestock guardian dogs) through the night. They're just doing their job, but if you're not used to it, you may not sleep very well, so please bring ear buds or plugs! They absolutely love people, so they may get curious and try to come hang out with you in your tent! Because of this, we will provide you with a spray water bottle so you can easily keep them away from your tent. It obviously doesn't hurt them, but it works at keeping them away. *** Come pitch your tent (or rent one of ours, subject to availability!) on the grass or on the wooden deck near the edge of our pond, or walk our beautiful 19 grassy and wooded acres to find your favorite spot to set up camp. During your stay, feel free to explore our property, do some fishing (bring your own gear!) or just relax by the pond, get to know our friendly animals, take a snooze in our hammock, feed the chickens, turkeys and ducks, pet our loving LGDs, pose for professional pictures while snuggling with our sheep, goats, and mini donkey, make your own pizza in our DIY outdoor brick oven stove, (coming soon!) then start a campfire and enjoy s'mores, before settling in for a cozy night under the stars!"Pick Your Plot" is exactly as it sounds. It means that your campsite is located wherever you choose to set up camp on our 19 fenced acres. Pitch your tent in an open grassy space, or hidden in the woods, or by the pond. Upon your arrival, we can walk the property with you to point out some prime locations, or you are welcome to scope out your favorite location on your own. Our only request is that you notify us of your chosen spot so we can make sure it is safe for you.  Should you find a spot that requires some clearing out of leaves, branches, etc. you are welcome to borrow our rakes and/or shovel, if needed. Just text us any requests, and we'll do our best to accommodate! You're welcome to bring your camper to stay in, however, please note that we do not have RV hookups. Campers are only allowed in certain areas, which we will go over with you at check-in. A compost toilet is available, which we will setup inside a popup tent near your campsite. If there are multiple campers staying during the same time period, we will set it up at a central location accessible to all campsites. Everyone is required to remove their compost bag and dispose of it after each use of the compost toilet. You are welcome to bring your own compost toilet as well, so long as all waste is securely bagged and removed from the premises (along with all trash) upon checkout.
