We are a Poll Merino sheep stud and a wheat/barley cropping farm at Emu Downs in the Mid North of SA. We have resurrected this character old workers quarters which we've turned into a rustic, peaceful abode for you to enjoy. Sleeps four (double bed, single bed and old miners couch,). Bring your own bedding. There is a flushing external toilet and a bush shower (ie: a shower bag, provided). The room with the open fire can be utilised as a kitchen/living area. We've provided crockery, cutlery, glasses, kettles and a camp oven. There is running cold rainwater into the sink. Cooking can be done on the open fire, or use the small camp gas cookers. There is also a gas BBQ with side burner in the open end room. If you are really brave, try your hand at camp oven cooking in the campfire. There is no power, only lighting provided from a small solar panel/battery. Extra guests welcome in tents, swags or vans adjacent to the cottage. To ensure only one group of campers at a time, the cottage has to be booked first, then book the extra campers through the additional campsites listing. Talk to me about your needs. Campfires welcome when not in fireban season. You are welcome to bring your own firewook, or I can supply for $25 a wheelbarrow load. Book this as an extra. Dogs are permitted, but please understand, we are a sheep stud and need to ensure no disturbance from dogs. Please advise if you intend to bring your dog.

Eckert’s Old Place
Home comforts, tranquil space
If you want to be off grid but still with most of the comforts of home, I couldn’t think of a better place to base yourself in the Mid North of SA! Tranquil, peaceful ideal to unwind. If you’re into reading and local history then there are ample books on the early settler family’s histories to check out! Easy access to The Lavender and Heysen walking trails too. Take in uninterrupted views of the sunrise from the porch, sunsets beyond the range and spectacular night skies! Highly recommended for solo, groups or families

A must see.
A tranquil step back into history. Chris and Phillip have created a beautiful little get away with a very relaxing vibe. Plenty of creature comforts for those looking for an easy holiday, but still simple enough that you don't feel like you are glamping. The sky at night lights up with so many stars it's absolutely breathtaking.

Eckert’s Old Place
We had two lovely nights here. Very cosy, even though there was a chilly wind in the evening. A good excuse to cook our dinners in the open fireplace. They were a great success. We enjoyed a walk to Niblet Gap and learned a few things about the farm and crops. Watched some night harvesting from our verandah. Apparantley, late evening to midnight or so is a good time for certain grass crops. They're drier then. The machine lights are so bright. If my grandson had been there I could have convinced him they were ailen beings :) Thank you.
