Ayrshire Downs Caravan & Camping is a property steeped in Australian history; with the Cobb & Co coach pub ruins, original shearing shed ruins from the famous shearing strikes, the location for where Banjo Patterson first penned Waltzing Matilda to music, and more.  We offer sites next to one of Australia’s iconic shearing shed ruins. Located along the beautiful Wokingham Creek, you’ll get a taste of the outback with stock and other native animals surrounding your stay.  Winton is the nearest town, 58 km away, and has so much to see and do. It's the Dinosaur Capital of Australia, home of Waltzing Matilda and Queensland's Boulder Opal; abundant in nature, culture and heritage. It's also the best place to stock up on supplies. We have a dedicated, fenced off area for campers with trees growing. We have water available, cold showers and flushing toilets, picnic shed with seats but  otherwise campers must be self-contained. The nearest dump point is in Winton. We have a communal fire pit where you can gather and meet other travellers, or you're welcome to light your own firepit (BYO) at your campsite. Dogs welcome, please keep them under control and not hassling other campers.  We also offer options for tours and shearing demonstrations, with mini wool bales for sale, plus landowners history and stories of day to day life on the land, and genuine property museum tours on request.  Ayrshire Downs Caravan & Camping is a property steeped in Australian history; with the Cobb & Co coach pub ruins, original shearing shed ruins from the famous shearing strikes in the 1980’s, the location for where Banjo Patterson first penned Waltzing Matilda to music, and more.  We offer sites next to one of Australia’s iconic shearing shed ruins. Ayrshire Downs Caravan & Camping
Easy directions especially as we got in at night due to flooding. Woke up to a fantastic sunrise. Showers and toilets were clean. Make sure you bring plenty of shade.

Ayrshire Downs Caravan & Camping
Lovely spot
Large, well kept area for everyone to spread out in. Nice cold showers and toilets are always appreciated while camping. Can see it getting better and better with time as the trees grow etc. Would be amazing to have a few more spots to have a camp fire, although you can bring your own above ground fire pit.

Ayrshire Downs Caravan & Camping
I really enjoyed my stay - I had the entire campground to myself. Will and his family have had the station in the family for years and you can certainly see that there is a love and passion for their farm, and now also with their hip camp stay. There is an awesome fire pit, it’s huge with big logs to sit on around it and a sheltered picnic table. Don’t forget to look up under the picnic table ceiling - maybe leave your mark also. There is a tonne of history here so if you get a chance to, book in the tour. I didn’t get a chance to as I only stayed an overnight. However Will was gracious to take me and show me the old shearer’s shed and tell me a bit of the history. He also welcomed me along with him while he went and checked some of his sheep. A very welcoming host. Now don’t be turned off when you read the listing as it says cold water showers only. It was quite warm and honestly whatever the water they have here it was great to shower in. If you are looking for a couple of days stop in your travel or just an overnight as you travel through you really need to put this one on your list. Just off the highway but far enough you are private and you can’t even hear the traffic. I will stay again for sure next time I’m travelling through.
