Urban Regenerative Gardens

2 sites · RVs, Tents2 acres · Sherbrooke, QC
This rare urban site acknowledges our Abenaki heritage, who camped and lived along these shores for centuries. Our beautiful urban location near highway 410 and Bishop's University, directly on St. Francis river, makes it an exceptional starting point for cyclists who want to enjoy the Route Verte path; fish, canoe, kayak or tube the river or simply explore all Sherbrooke has to offer.  Our birdlife is amazing and is a recognized birding location by provincial authorities, especially for swallows and chimney swifts. A fire pit will be made available, in respect of all fire bans, with firewood available for purchase. In 1910, Agriculture Canada set up a research centre that operated until the 1950's. The property was sold to a family that emigrated to Canada from Europe, to set begin a new life post WW2. In 2015, I purchased the property to return it to its roots - regenerative farming, training, hospitality, poverty relief and healthy living. Be our guest at The Farmhouse, a vibrant small-scale farm with a heart for the earth and its people. (https://www.thefarmhouse.store) Seasonal, fresh farm produce will be available for purchase as well as guided garden tours.   Located within 5 minute walking distance to Lennoxville (Bishop's University).  It's perfect for campers who like to experience "urban" camping. Some road noise. If you are concerned about the weather, the site provides the use of a 8 sleeper tent trailer for your convenience. During the day, you are welcome to relax in it too. Portable water will be provided, but bring your own drinks if possible. As a bonus treat, you are welcome to sleep in a very HIP camper, a 1980 retro dodge camper van. Bilingual service. Prestation bilingue.

Camping near Lac-Mégantic guide

Overview

Serving a population of just under 6,000, Lac-Mégantic offers enough experiences to keep visitors entertained, but campers typically come for all that the nearby nature provides. Hiking and biking trails run through town, while boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding can be enjoyed in the clear waters of Lac-Mégantic. Set in the heart of the world’s first International Dark Sky Preserve, Lac-Mégantic also offers incredible stargazing with access to several national parks and private campgrounds.

When to go

The best time to plan a camping trip to Lac-Mégantic depends on what you plan to do, as this truly is a four-season destination with many parks offering winter camping. Fall in the Eastern Townships is spectacular (what with all those changing maple leaves and harvest bounty), while July and August offer incredible weather but busy attractions. Spring can be a bit wet for camping, so pack accordingly.

Know before you go

  • On Saturday mornings throughout the summer, Lac-Mégantic has a market where you can pick up local produce, see live music, and grab a bite to eat.
  • Not far from Lac-Mégantic is a border crossing into Vermont. Be sure to have appropriate documentation should you intend to hop over to the US.
  • Cell reception is usually great in the Eastern Townships, but it can be spotty once you get out into provincial parks and more remote areas.
  • This area is pretty tough to explore without a vehicle, so you’re best off bringing your own or renting a campervan.
