'Whispering Pines' was bought about 35 years ago as our dream retirement home, a place to rest, have a quiet life, enjoy nature and have a peaceful retirement for ever and ever...In past years we have been a family camp. and an event camp with camping festivals, special events, and day visits. Now we welcome visitors who are looking for a casual, rustic, laid back experience with nature in a simple, peaceful setting.
Nature is allowed to thrive on our property, and the entire property is forested and wild. The majority of our campsites are shaded under a verdant and lush canopy. Our private beach and small lake welcome you for a swim.
All we ask of our visitors is: that whatever you bring in you take home with you, that you leave your campsite and the property the way you found it, and the only thing you take from here are pictures and happy memories.
All of our campsites are off-grid, un-serviced, drive-in camping. Campfire wood and recycling facilities are available on site. Maintained outhouses are available throughout the property. There is no potable water on the property so please bring your own drinking and cooking water.
Children under 12 can camp for free. When booking a campsite please only include any guests over 12 years of age in your guest count. Children under 12 do not need to be included in your booking.
Contact us to inquire about large group and event rates. We host LARPing weekends twice a month. We also have a limited number of seasonal sites available from June to September.
I love this property and all the people who visit us, many have become extended family and for this I am grateful. There is nothing nicer than to have people drop by and spend a couple of hours, a day or a weekend, sometime when I get real lucky it's for a longer period of time :-)

Come and enjoy a traditional/rustic camping experience on the mighty Ottawa river. Be sure to bring your water shoes and a canoe or kayak, or you may rent one of ours.
C-O-G is located on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, east of the bridge that passes over from Hawkesbury, Ontario. This beautiful (mostly) deciduous forest (situated on both sides of the 344/Rte Des Outaouais), has been in the family for generations. The 59 acre property (50 acres on land, ~9 acres of river/water) features scenic views, privacy and is host to many outdoor activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking and more, with many other outdoor tourism attractions (white water rafting ~15kms, Parc Omega (zoo)) located nearby. By paddle boat, canoe, or other similar shallow depth water craft, one can head upriver, around an island, and loop back through the remaining historic canal. ...It's a historic lazy river! Many amenities are only 1-3km away, such as a gas station (with fast charging), a grocery store and many restaurants including a Tim Hortons and McDonalds.
A little History...
Our property has played host to a small portion of the rich history of this area which included three railway tracks, a canal and a lock. The railway beds remain and the lock has simply been flooded over.
Following the war of 1812, three Ottawa river canal systems were constructed between 1819 and 1833 to bypass the Long Sault Rapids on the Ottawa river. These canals were in use until 1961 when a large portion of the canal system was submerged due to the construction of a hydro-electric dam (~22kms downriver) at Carillion. As a result, the river level at our property rose high enough to submerge the top of the lock walls by ~3.5 feet. This submerged lock is located a few hundred feet offshore and can be seen using Google Earth as it measures 50' x 300' in size. Once you have a good idea where it is, throw on your water shoes and a life jacket and enjoy an interesting experience of walking on the walls of a submerged lock.

I am practising permaculture and have a food forest, medicinal gardens, chickens and I forage for wild edibles. If you want to learn about plant medicine, cold climate polyculture, sylvopasture and syntropic gardening techniques these are being EXPERIMENTED with here at the homestead, The focus and goal here is to act as a plant nursery and protector of biodiversity and forest integrity. There are lakes in the area but not all are accessible

The more independant yo are the better. Toaster oven and hot plate, kettle provided but no running water. Currently setting up outdoor camp shower.

Camping near Brownsburg-Chatham guide
Overview
Just under a 90-minute drive from Montreal, Brownsburg-Chatham serves as a simple jumping-off point for greater outdoor pursuits. The Greek Orthodox Monastery of the Virgin Mary of Consolation is a peaceful spot worth a stop, with a sweet store with a selection of products made by the sisters who live there (and other local producers). Some basic amenities are also offered in the historic Old Brownsburg Village, while a municipal campsite sits on the banks of the Ottawa River. Several horseback riding operators service the area, and some beautiful hiking spots—the Chutes Brownsburg - Rivière de L'Ouest park features gorgeous trails along the falls.
When to go
Camping at the municipal campground and private campgrounds in the area is seasonal, operating from May to October, though national parks and reserves around Brownsburg-Chatham do offer winter camping. The best time to take advantage of the activities here is definitely during the summer (mid-July through August will be warmest), though the fall here can be really pretty too. Coming before mid-June can be chilly and wet—less than brilliant for camping.
Know before you go
- The public library in Old Brownsburg Village offers free public internet access and computers for use.
- Being so close to Montreal means that cellphone reception is usually pretty good in this area, but campers should expect it to be spotty (or disappear) deeper into the parks and reserves around Brownsburg-Chatham.
- As this municipality only offers a convenience store, you should grab groceries in neighbouring town Lachute or elsewhere before setting up camp.
- You’ll find it difficult to explore this region without your own vehicle.
