Tranquility on the Bay (Adults)

There's something that just makes you feel good being here. I looked at many properties before deciding on this one because "it just felt right". This flat terrain is rich in history. Pontiac Bay was fundamental in the logging era and held the local Trading post. The bay is nestled between Luskville Falls and Fort Coulonge Falls. As you drive here you will begin to feel a sense of calm within you as you glance out your right window to see the Gatineau Hills and to your left, you will see that you're winding your way along the Ottawa River. Or, if you decide to use the ferry crossing from Fitzroy Harbour on the Ontario side we're only 8 minutes from there. I have an old, but river-worthy canoe you may borrow but feel free to bring your own canoe, kayak, paddleboat or SUP to explore the land and inlets around the bay. Both sites have access to the boat launch. No toilet facilities at property so bring your own camping toilet or self-contained RV. P.S. You might want to stop in the village for the best french fries in all of the Outaouais region. You'll see the big red chip truck across from Marcotte's, the gas station as you leave the ferry terminal, if you're coming from Fitzroy Harbour. And yes, they make pulled pork poutine, pogos, burgers and zucchini sticks. If you're here on the weekend you may also want to check out the Bristol Farmer's market every Saturday from Noon to 3pm on the public beach in Norway Bay, only 20 minutes away. It's a lovely quaint community mixed with old and new unique cottages so you'll definitely want to take a drive around. And you'll surely want to visit the Vineyard and Vintage Car Museum, a 2-minute drive from here if you enjoy wine and cars (but not at the same time lol...unless the keys AREN'T in the ignition ha!). Google Domaine de Pontiac Village for hours and more information or message me. Visit Parc des Chutes in Fort Coulonge for a view of the waterfalls, zip lining over the gorge and obstacle courses. (The view of the gorge is breathtaking!) Want to try whitewater rafting for an exhilarating rush? Try Esprit or Horizon X, both about 40 minutes north. Glamping in the Woods

This 30ac property was once the site of a Carding Mill used for the processing of sheep’s wool. Before wool can be spun into thread or yarn, it must be combed, also referred to as carded, to straighten the wool fiber and remove impurities. Water-powered carding machines like the one that was at this site made it much easier and faster to prepare the wool for spinning. It was said that it would take a family months to prepare as much wool by hand as a carding machine could card in a day. The carding mill on this site would have stood along the creek which is leading from the pond to the Grants Settlement road. Earth berms which you can still see today near the opening of the creek, held back water to power the mill. The pond would have been about 10ft deeper than it currently is now. Over the years the beavers have taken up the charge of damming the creek and making a natural aquatic habitat. The Old Mill Cabin was constructed in 2020 using salvaged beams from the old fallen down barn that you pass on your way in. It was a family affair with all getting involved in the process.

Although Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park is smaller and lesser-known than the iconic Algonquin Provincial Park, it features the same lush deciduous forests and refreshing lakes. There’s no visitor center here, and the area is not as well-serviced (offering tent camping only and no RV parks or car campsites), but that’s a plus for those looking to avoid crowds.

Bonnechere Provincial Park

Settle into the sandy beach of Round Lake to enjoy the best of what Bonnechere Provincial Park has to offer. Set in Renfrew County, Ontario, this recreational gem offers over 100 campsites along with a shower station and playground. Both kayak and paddleboard rentals are available for exploring the expansive waters (just remember a lifejacket).
