R.O.S.A. Land stands for Rare Occaneechi Saponi Alluvial Land-based retreat and campground offering individuals and small groups a place for rest, exploration, sanctuary, and grounding. Equal parts woodland, floodplain wetland and pastureland, R.O.S.A land is stewarding 23 acres of ecological magical oasis on a tributary of the Upper Tar River in an Aquatic Habitat deemed an important NC Natural Heritage area of the Piedmont of North Carolina. Rare mussel species and amphibians live here. Come see for yourself! This is a queer-stewarded rematriation project. This land is co-owned by MK of Handewa Farms and K Cox, Steward of the Respite and will be passed on to her seven children, farm family of land partners, Handewa Farms. We offer nature-based immersion for artists, healers, cultural and frontline organizers and their families taking time for restful resistance. It is a triptyech of woods, water and pastureland butting up against an untouched wild old hardwood forest - a combination unlikley found in the PIedmont- nestled among small tobacco, horse and hay farms in the Southeast corner of Granville County between Oxford and Roxboro in the beautiful PIedmont of North Carolina.

Glamp in Sonny the Wonder Bus
It was a super cool spot, so much attention to detail inside the bus. We really enjoyed our stay, we would've loved to explore the property, but cold temps and windy conditions kept us hunkered down inside, which wasn't an issue for us. I would definitely stay again🙂

A Peaceful Respite
I stayed for some Winter glamping . Kristen wasn’t there but she asked Steven to help out. He was very hospitable, bringing hot coffee, and fresh eggs and arugula for breakfast, which I had no trouble preparing on the propane stove. The loft bed was big and comfy. The wood stove, though small, put out good heat, just not overnight. A sleeping bag suitable for freezing temperatures is important to bring along for winter. The creek was lovely, as were the fields and pond. Except for the barking of a distant dog and a rooster, all was quiet. The stars, sunrises ,and sunsets were beautiful and unobstructed.. plentiful sunny spots made staying warm easy. While it was typical Piedmont terrain, with no breathtaking views or wildlife besides birds, it was pretty and peaceful, and definitely provided a much needed respite. I’d definitely come back.

Great Camping Experience
8 of us stayed in site #4 and had a wonderful time. It was a first-time experience for most of us and the space was perfect. Would recommend Kristen's land! The stars were truly beautiful out here.

Big Beech Creekside (#3)
Respite in the round is one of my favorite places to be! Site 3 is the perfect camp site! Being able to listen to the creek all night is so healing. Respite in the round is one of my favorite things about living in this area. A quick and scenic drive (35mins) from North Durham. You won’t regret taking some time to slow down by reserving respite in the round. Cox is a fantastic host and what she and her community has done to curate this space is so special.
