The cabin is located in a remote area of Bear Swamp State Forest. It is about 5 miles from the nearest paved road but has seasonal roads that take you to the cabin. There are many close attractions like Skaneateles Lake and Carpenters Falls. The Cabine doesn’t have electricity or water but we do have a generator. We do not have a shower or bathroom But we have a outhouse. We have fire woods available but we do ask people to bring their own gas if you want to run the generator.

Located just 30 minutes north of Utica, you will be a short drive from many local restaurants and shopping if sitting at the campsite is not your speed. Reflections Homestead

I am Karl and with my wife Danielle together we own 10 acres of peacefully settled forest on the edge of over 10,000 acres of State Forest land. It is on a seasonal road. I have no registered address, but a small sign marks my access road as Jacob Lane. This is a tribute to my friends. The Amish that helped me build our off-grid cabin. It is very quiet here. My closest neighbor about a half mile away and I kind of like it that way. There are seasonal roads here that allow four wheelers that behave themselves to buzz by from time to time. The forest rangers and DEC officers that patrol here keep a tight rein on the forest and its preservation. We have one guest cabin and several places a tent or RV can park. There are no hookups. Water is a precious commodity here. We capture rainwater and filter what we drink and cook with. Please bring some potable water. We do have spring water available but it's a drive. We are currently working on a well so this may not be a permanent condition. I first came here about 15 years ago. I would like to try and see if others would enjoy what we have made our lives. Be alone or follow me on my daily adventures. I do like to talk and although I don't lie, stretching the truth is an artform I have perfected so be prepared. There is a state-run beach and picnic area about 3 minute drive away on the Hinkley Reservoir. We are about 15 to 20 minutes away from the Herkimer Diamond Mines. You can bike, hike, nature watch or just enjoy the peacefulness of the tree you chose to sit against. Down and ready firewood is everywhere if you want to bend over and pick it up. You can possess firearms on the property, but you may not discharge one without prior approval unless it's to save your life or that of another. There are places not far away that you can legally shoot and enjoy yourself. There are traditional outhouses on the property and for those that know how cat holing is allowed. Ask if unsure. No dumping tanks or portable toilets anywhere and that includes the outhouses. The state of New York has facilities at campgrounds that do a proper job with that type of waste. Fresh water is provided at all times, tacking and grooming service available, as well as many other extras!! Now for your accommodations: we have a private cabin, located on the property. Wood stove for heat & cooking(wood provided) cabin is very spacious and can comfortably sleep up to 8, more if you are comfortable with doing so. Cabin has a very spacious downstairs, couches, dining table, cupboards and counter, there is a full upstairs with a drop down ladder ,that is the sleeping quarters.(please bring your own cots/air mattresses/sleeping bags/pillows and so forth).Camping here is semi primitive, there is an outhouse, complete with a light! You have the choice of using lanterns or we will set up the power inverter for you!! (With the power inverter you can watch DVDs,& movies, as well as have electric lights throughout the cabin. You can either hike to the cabin, or we have transportation for you and your equipment. Campfire area, and peace and quiet!! The serenity of the area is wonderful, it is truly a place where you can get away from it all. We have miles of marked trails on the property, as well as access to miles and miles of state land, you can choose to trail ride with a guide or by yourself(we have maps) if there is a specific area you would like to ride at,we have equine transportation available as well!! Please bring your own food water, and anything you will need! We have the horses covered. Camping your way with your beloved equine partner. We offer custom accommodations as well!!
