From U.S. Highway 550 (north of Nageezi), follow the signs that say Chaco Canyon National Monument Park (County Road 7900). From County Road 7900 and County Road 7950 (turn right on 7950). After 3 miles, at the end of pavement, you will see a sign that says "Dry Camp", with a long dirt driveway. Our campground is 13 miles before the hazardous road to Chaco Canyon. We like to say the we are "The Gateway to Chaco Canyon". Save the wear and tear on your trailers, camp with us! Horse-Thief Campground is an upcoming camp; located on 5 acres of land and more, for campers to enjoy. In a quiet; serene, beautiful landscape area of the Dine Nation. With beautiful sunrise; sunsets and night sky is out of this world. There are trails in which visitors may walk or bike, as well as a Look Out Point. Horse-Thief is currently a Dry Camp with no Electricity or running water however generators are welcome. There is one portable restroom. We look forward to Meeting and Greeting you! We think you will enjoy your stay with us, and hope you give us a great review!Visitors/campers can expect to be in a: quiet; serene area of the Navajo/Dine' Nation, with views of beautiful landscapes. They will also encounter; breathtaking sunrises, gorgeous sunsets, and amazing glittering stars. If they get lucky, views of wild horses will be encountered. Nearby are trails that can be utilized for walking or biking, as well as a look out point. We are a dry camp; so whatever campers haul in they need to haul out. We are pet friendly, but visitors need to clean up after their pets. There is one portable unisex restroom, which is cleaned on a regular basis. We hope that you enjoy your stay and give us a great review! For Travel trailers/5th wheel/ Class A/Bus Conversion that are over 23 feet there will automatically be charged $40 a night. Horse-Thief Campground
A nice campground outside of Chaco with plenty of space. The road to the campground was paved and their driveway was well-kept, which a nice contrast from the road leading into Chaco. Definitely glad we could leave our camper there as we would have had a hard time driving it in to Chaco. The location is very convenient as it’s only about 8 miles to enter the park. Wayne and Yolanda were lovely hosts. They came by to check up on the campsite and the people staying every night. Price to stay was very reasonable. If you’re visiting Chaco this is the best place to stay with a camper.

Best Host Ever
Horse Thief campground was excellent. There were several well cleared spots for tent camping. We picked one next to a tree with a fire ring. When a surprise spring snowstorm that wasn't in the forecast blew in and the temperature dropped twenty degrees, Wayne came to check on us. He was worried we would be cold in our tents so he chopped up some of his own firewood and let us stay in the navajo hojan he has been building. He wanted be sure we were not cold at night. There was a wood stove inside that we cooked dinner and breakfast on and we were incredibly warm and cozy all night. Wayne made sure to check on us throughout the trip and went out of his way to make sure we had a good experience even though he is a very busy man who also has a ranch to run. The hogan we stayed in is almost finished and will soon be available for travelers to rent out so keep an eye out. Wayne's place is a short drive from Chaco so his hogan will be the closest and cosiest vacation rental available. Wayne's kindness and hospitality really made our trip. We look forward to all the plans he has for the campsite and will definitely stay there again. If you want a campsite with a caring and helpful host look no further than Horse Thief Campground.

No water, Sewer, internet, or electricity. What you see is what you get. Not far from Chaco Canyon. Go exploring or bring a good book.

Visiting Chaco
The property is quite stark and bare, but Wayne was very friendly and attentive. He came to the property each evening we were there and we had good conversations and learned about the areas history from him. We have a small Rpod and were hesitant about driving the 13 mile rough road to Chaco. We loved Chaco Canyon Historical Park and we spent all of our time there and came back to the property just to eat dinner, read and call it a day. Thanks, Wayne, for your hospitality.
