Hawkwood Farm is a historic property in the Catoctin Mountains. The house dates back to 1803. At that time, it is documented that there was a blacksmith shop on the property. There is a functioning blacksmith shop today, as well as an expansive wood working shop. A ;band of rhyolite runs through the property that was used by Native Americans for spear points dating back to the paleolithic period. Presently, we strive to live as sustainably and as closely to nature as possible, being good stewards of the land that we are blessed to call home. If you are looking for lots of open space with a sensational view of the sky then this is the place for you! This site is great for viewing all kinds of celestial events. You will also have access to the rest of what Hawkwood Farm offers including forest trails and an array of wildlife. Pitch a tent, or sleep literally under the stars. ;We are abiding by social distancing procedures, so our contact will be limited at this time. You may be visited by our good natured Labrador Sawdust and our sweet Great Pyrenees Ivory. We are asking that people take their trash with them.

Camp by the pond

Very nice, chill people, pretty place. The birds and wildlife are really nice to hear in the morning, there seems to be a lot around there. Our car got stuck in the mud and they helped us push it out. The site by the pond could be better as it is in view of their house, not particularly private, and the outhouse is quite a hike, you have to go past the house and play chicken with a large friendly dog to get there and back, which is fun but maybe not ideal. I would make some changes and clean things up a bit in the surroundings if I were them, but no major complaints, the place is beautiful just not super private. They do respect your privacy and totally leave you alone though. One thing, be aware that the connectivity is spoty. I was texting them via the SMS initiated by hipcamp, but their responses would only go to the app, which I was unable to access while on their property, so it was a bit frustrating (not at all their fault) not getting responses to our questions for two days, only to see they had responded right away but we could only see it in the app once we got home.

Beautiful farm and kind people

Everything was just as advertised. Upon our arrival, they warmly greeted us and even offered to help with the fire, considering the rainy weather. They then escorted us to the campsite. Strongly recommended

Farm Field Camping

A very nice camping site. - plenty of parking - firepit with metal grill - picnic table - porta potty walking distance No trees for hammocks. Beautiful open field on a farm. Host was not available at check in, so we called and she returned the call later that evening. Just follow the website instructions for directions, the camp site is a few turns once you get onto the property.

Rainbow’s End

It was a very fantastic pleasure time for me. I had my time at a quiet, clean and well-greged campground. Camping is my healing time. The host was kindness was even more impressive.
