Situated on 1.5 acres, the old farmhouse, where our family lives is said to be one of the very oldest houses in Albion... built in 1865! When we got the place in 2018, it was in pretty bad disrepair and the land was a a jungle of brambles, holly bush, and tons of buried trash. Pregnant and feeling brave (also very naive), we dug into loving up the land and home. Here we are, nearly 6 years later, with a sweet little dude climbing the old plum tree, a babe in arms, a secret garden filled with all kinds of wild and cultivated edible and medicinal plants to enjoy. It makes our hearts really happy to care for this land and we love to share it with folks looking to slow down and connect with this beautiful place we get to call home. We view ourselves as just the current stewards of this beautiful place. This was home to the flora and fauna for hundreds of thousands of years before people, then home to the Pomo people for many generations, then a slew of immigrants and homesteaders, and now us. As our motto goes, This land, home, trees, and forest animals have been here for many moons before us; it's our greatest hope to be worthy stewards to ensure its health and vitality for many more.Cozy little salvage redwood cabin looking out on giant redwoods at our sweet old homestead. Queen sized memory foam bed with cozy cotton flannel sheets, down comforter, and fluffy pillows, with extra blankets on hand. Electric kettle, little pour-over coffee set-up for the morning, lots of great old books to dig into. Outdoor shower with on-demand hot water, outdoor sink and dining area where you're welcome to set up your own cook stove. Composting toilet bathroom with sink about 10 steps from the cabin. All water is potable. Heat is plug-in electric or you're welcome to bring your own firewood for the wood stove.  The Love Shack opens out onto a redwood meadow which is communal space and you're welcome to wander and check out the giant redwood stumps, ferns, and  banana slugs or make a warming fire in the fire pit dedicated to your space.  In terms of privacy, life is happening here! Our home, a long term rental + ceramic studio for our potter friend, and our seasonal (May-Oct) Hipcamp space, "Bell Tent in the Coastal Redwoods" are also on the 1.5 homestead. All are decently private from each other, but not completely secluded, and you may see us out and about on the land, working and playing with our 4 year old. This is a generally quiet and peaceful place, but not a place of total silence and solitude. We are surrounded by undeveloped forest on 3 sides of the land and our rural residential road on the border.  If you have more than 2 people in your group, we'd recommend booking the Bell Tent which can house another 2 friends.  2 miles from the ocean and all kinds of activities + a great little general store (Albion Grocery) with just about everything you might need. *Kids are welcome! They don't count toward the 2 person limit, but you will need to bring all extra bedding for them. You could comfortably fit 2 kids in addition to 2 adults. *Pets are not welcome, unless they are a formally trained service animal. Dogs in particular have just been too disruptive to the land, the cat, the chickens, and most importantly, our sweet little kid. Thank you for understanding. If you need it, there is a wonderful kennel about 15 minutes north of us to board your pup ;-)

Love Shack in the Coastal Redwoods
Awesome and beautiful site! Was extra cozy during the rain with the wood stove and radiator, the the sound of rain on the tin roof topped it off! Lovely selection of books and the cabin was furnished with everything you might need! The host is very accommodating and helpful and responds very fast should you need anything.

Love Shack in the Coastal Redwoods
Lovely cozy spot on the Mendocino coast. The cabin is very cozy and has lots of nice touches and nicknacks. The outdoor shower is just adjacent and there is a compost toilet close by around the next shed. It was mostly rainy on my visit but it was nice to read inside and relax.

Many Moons in the Coastal Redwoods
Beautiful and thoughtfully decorated space that we loved staying in. The wood-burning stove, the carefully curated books and paintings, and the sound of frogs at night—all of the little things here really added up to a great stay. Madeline and her partner are also incredibly chill and overall great hosts. Would definitely recommend!

Love Shack in the Coastal Redwoods
Love this little love shack
I’ve been here many times and each time I leave loving this little cabin even more. I can fully disconnect here. I read. Journal. Tend to the fire. Play guitar. I’m present. The stars were INCREDIBLE. I’d never seen them that bright before. I absolutely love coming here and will continue to return. Can’t wait to get back in February for another stay.

Love Shack in the Coastal Redwoods
The Love Shack was a sweet, cozy, thoughtfully furnished. Coming up to the area in late autumn meant the woodstove was key! Appreciated unplugging and not having wifi or cell service and diving into the many interesting books that were in there.
