The Gertie Bus is located a 5 min walk to a beautiful white sand beach (at low tide). There are walking trails all around and lots of beach access. Tucked into the front of our property in the quiet of Gabriola island you’ll find the converted Gertie bus with all the amenities you need. The bus has a gas stovetop/oven, bar fridge and sink with grey water system. Equipped kitchen and sofa area to hang out. The standard queen bed is great for sleeping in and relaxing with that second cup of coffee. Mountain biking, hiking, swimming and whale watching are just steps away. There is beach access across the street through a private park with picnic tables, a very old eagles nest and a private access to a rocky beach perfect for sunsets. The home itself has a pottery studio on the main floor with a full time studio Practice. Give Paige a ring if you’d like a tour, she’s usually working away. Our family lives on the top floor. Outside the bus is are lush veggie gardens, fruit trees and a nice private outdoor dining area. A BBQ and solar lights also help with evening hangouts. Family friendly! Also we love animals but we ask that you clean up after your pet and keep any animals that aren’t so great with kids and other animals on leash. We have a dachshund on the property that is friendly and old ( barks at strangers but is all bark I assure you, he just wants to be friends)

The site is level and can accommodate vehicles up to 40ft in length. Electrical, sewage, and potable water hookups included. Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park is one of the most unique parks in BC. Known as Saysutshun by the Snuneymuxw First Nation people, this family-friendly park is accessible only by passenger ferry, kayak, or boat. Bring your own boat to moor in Mark Bay or take the passenger ferry from Nanaimo, a short 10-minute ride. Newcastle Island is marked by steep, sandstone cliffs and sunny beaches that are popular in summer, as well as an extensive network of walking and hiking trails through a mature forest. With views of the Coastal Mountains, 18 oceanside campsites, and 43 mooring buoys, Newcastle Island offers a natural, historical, and cultural experience for visitors.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservable dates are from May to October. Make your plans early to reserve a campsite in Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park. You can reserve campsites two months in advance of the date of your arrival, beginning in March.
All campsite reservations must be made by phone or online at Discover Camping, BC Parks’ reservation portal. When reservations are not available, all campsites function as first-come, first-served.

When to go

Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park is open year-round and busiest during the summer months of July, August, and into September. Day-trippers from Nanaimo arrive frequently on the Grey Selkie passenger ferry, which runs every half hour between Maffeo Sutton Park and the island. Once day-trippers depart on the last sailing in late afternoon, the island returns to campers. Winter camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Know before you go

Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park is accessed by boat or passenger ferry from Nanaimo, where you can purchase supplies. There are limited facilities on the island.
Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park doesn’t have wifi, but cell phone service should be strong.
Campfires are permitted and firepits are provided at each campsite. Park operators encourage visitors to minimize the use of fires and bring a portable stove for cooking.
