Footbridge Haven Farm

2 sites ¡ Tents25 acres ¡ Mt Pleasant, PA
My wife and I and our four children moved to this 25 acre farm in 2017, and the creek and adjoining Mammoth Park soon became our favorite spots to relax. Our two boys swim and fish in the holes, while the girls enjoy picking flowers and making "houses" among the trees. We also love hosting friends and family for cookouts, or spending a Sunday afternoon in the cool shade beside the creek. On our 15 acres of pasture land, we raise chickens, pigs, a few dairy cows, and some steers. We are not a certified organic farm, but we raise our animals on pasture grass as much as possible, without chemicals or synthetic fertilizers. The Mammoth Park, which adjoins our property, features a 20-acre lake, a new 9-hole disc golf course, walking trails, pavilions, ball fields, a giants slide, RC airstrip, and more. We'd love to share our favorite spots with you! Learn more about this land: Relax to the sound of the babbling brook, stroll through woods and pastures, cool off in the stream, or join us for an outdoor milking experience. Take a hike, catch a sunset view, firsh or throw a round of disc golf at the beautiful Westmoreland County Mammoth Park.  Our 25-acre farm is located at the base of the Chestnut Ridge in the Laurel Highlands, beside the Westmoreland County Mammoth Park. Our camp site features a pavilion, fire place with a grill, fire ring, and swings, all beside the beautiful, clear waters of the Welty Run. You can park at our buildings and walk to your site, or park at the site. Small campers are allowed with 4x4 vehicles. Nearby attractions include golf courses, state parks in the Laurel Highlands, Frank Lloyd Wright houses, caverns, and white water rafting. Or, schedule your stay around our local events like the Westmoreland County Airshow, Westmoreland County Fair, or the one-of-a-kind Kecksburg UFO festival. Whether you're looking for a beautiful, relaxing retreat, or a base camp for exploring the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania, we look forward to hosting you at the Footbridge Haven Campsite. Directions: On Blacksmith Road off of Rt 982, you will pass our house (715) on the left, with 2 driveways.  Go past both driveways, and you will see a pasture fence on your left.  Continue to the end of the fence.  There, turn left between the telephone pole and the corner of the fence.  There is an opening in the trees, leading to the site.  There is a picture of the entrance in the pictures.

Burnhead Grazings

3 sites ¡ Lodging, Tents68 acres ¡ Indiana , PA
The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions. Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization. Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. You can listen to an interview on The Christian Witness Program on this page for some history about Moire and Randy in Tennessee where they were residing before coming to Indiana. They are producing lamb, wool for spinning and felting, and hay and are opening up the farm for small events such as weddings or family reunions. Moire is also the author and illustrator of a children's book available for sale on iBooks called Sissy & The King. In November of 2014, with the help of Hilltop Baptist Church and many others, they began hosting an event, LIFE Nativity, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which benefits Life-Way Pregnancy Center. Moire is also a fine artist and gives classes on wool felting. Ask about signing up for a class or book a private felting party.

Avalanche Adventrues-1

3 sites ¡ RVs, Tents700 acres ¡ Robinson, PA
We are ultimately seeking individuals who enjoy the primitive camping experience and want a place to themselves and away from the typical camping crowd.   To that end, we are offering one or longer lease agreements with costs ranging from $80 to $130 per month.    Our current site is located along the Conemaugh River about 10 miles from the town of Blairsville, PA. This area was very heavily mined from the mid 1800's through the 1940's. Much of the land was left in ruin. Over the last 20 years, efforts have been made to reclaim and reforest the properties and create man-made wetlands to purify the orange acidic water leaching from the former mining works. Hidden along the stream that parallels Reynolds Road, West Wheatfield Township, Indiana County, are the remains of small dams and other structures that were once part of a bustling economy. Reclamation efforts include a new flow channel and concrete bridge where vegetation has successfully been reestablished and the water is now clean. The view from on top of Fort Hill is just fabulous. And, on any given day one can hear the call of red tailed hawks as they glide in the winds above the valley floor. Hiking on an abandoned mining road or timber road will lead you to Roaring Run which also borders a state game lands property. This stream boasts one of the nicest water falls in the area. A short distance from the water falls, the stream meets the Conemaugh River after flowing under the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Do not trespass on railroad property or their right-of-way.! You can expect to encounter snakes....rattlesnakes and copperheads are in this area and are dangerous. We also have properties about 15 miles north of I-80 located in Clearfield County. This location is the grazing and breading home to the 2nd largest herd of Elk in Pennsylvania and the east coast of the US.   These sites will be available soon.  That said, hunting is strictly prohibited on any of our properties.  No exceptions.!We also partner with local establishments who can offer basic food and supplies, excellent dining, and lodging experiences for small and large groups.   We do not earn or receive any commissions from any of our partners;  We simply ask that you consider patronizing their businesses in a civil manner.Learn more about this land:This area was very heavily mined from the mid 1800's through the 1940's.
