Camp Stoney Meadows

13 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents120 acres · Big Bend, CA
We've been enjoying this special spot with family and friends for over 25 years, and now we want to share it with you. We appreciate the four seasons here on our 120 acres in the beautiful Cascade Range between Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta. Our property is adjacent to Shasta Trinity National Forest. It's a working ranch with tree farms, animals, hydroelectric power, sawmill, gardens, orchards, creeks, springs, trails, and our camp alongside Kosk Creek. We're 54 miles from Redding off of 299E, (about 1-1/2 hour drive). The last mile or so of the road here can be pretty rough, but on arrival, you'll know it's worth the trip! No Cell phone service available here, so it's the perfect opportunity to unplug. We do have a land line up at the house in case of an emergency. Also, if you really need it, WiFi is available at the house.

Alpaca on the Rocks

2 sites · Lodging, Tents5 acres · Weed, CA
Our ranch, Alpaca on the Rocks, is 5 acres, located near the small town of Weed in northernmost California. We have 10 alpaca along with mini-donkeys and horses, a mini-mule, assorted cats and dogs, Icelandic sheep, and Kune Kune pigs. This is quite a place: There are the sounds - the odd mutterings of the alpaca, the constant hooting of doves, the off and on braying of donkeys. There are the sights of the country life that surrounds us, the cattle and sheep of the ranch behind us, and the horses grazing in the meadow across the road. And a final and impossible to miss addition to the sights and sounds for you to take home - the solitary 14,179 foot Mount Shasta presiding calmly over its domain.

This is sacred land, and we hold many events here on this property such as CE5, Spirit Photography and Drum circles. We will let you know ahead of time if there will be an event when you book. We usually host them on the new moon and on a weekend. Loads of wildlife roam these lands so be prepared to see bear, coyote, deer, fox and many species of birds including a Heron live down by the creek. Be mindful of not keeping any food in your car and making sure to place it in the fridge inside the dome. We know all the good spots and will gladly share them. Text me if you need anything, I’m happy to help. The Composting toilet is one of the best on the market, called Natures Head. It’s located outside of the dome for privacy in a king camp tent with everything b you’ll need inside. Its super easy to work and believe it or not, not so bad to use. Camping near McCloud guide

Overview

Set in the southern slopes of majestic Mount Shasta, McCloud started off as a lumber and mill town. Today, the town and its national registered historic downtown district is a gateway to adventure. The nearby McCloud River is known for a trio of pretty waterfalls, and epic trout fishing, while Mount Shasta attracts hikers, mountaineers, nature lovers, and winter sport enthusiasts. Both the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway and Modoc Scenic Byway pass through McCould. Several state parks and national forests can be found nearby, offering additional opportunities for outdoor recreation, along with a wide range of camping options from developed to dispersed.

Where to go

McCloud Area

Private camping options near McCloud and Mount Shasta offer sites for tents, RVs, and cabins. Campers can stay on the slopes of Mount Shasta, which offers both developed and dispersed campgrounds. Several forest service campgrounds can be found right along the McCloud River, including Fowlers Camp near the waterfalls, Cattle Camp, and Algoma. Further south, near the McCloud Reservoir, campground options include Star City, Ash Camp, and Ah-Di-Na.

Shasta-Trinity and Modoc National Forests

Numerous lakeside and riverside campgrounds can be found in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, California’s largest, which is known for its many water features. Forest service campgrounds can be found near Lake Shastina, Castle Lake, Gumboot Lake, and Toad Lake and the Upper Sacramento River, Trinity River, and Eagle Creek. Further east, Medicine Lake in Modoc National Forest offers scenic lakeside campgrounds.

State Parks and Lassen National Forest

Southeast of McCloud, McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park offers a campground near a waterfall, while there are two PG&E campgrounds around Lake Britton. Boaters can head to Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park’s unique boat-in campground on Big Lake. Additional lakeside and riverside campgrounds can be found in Lassen National Forest, while Lassen Volcanic National Park offers eight campgrounds and a surreal landscape of volcanic and alpine terrain, and scenic lakes.

Shasta Lake

Further south, California’s largest reservoir is a hotspot for water activities. Popular options include the Lakeshore East Campground along the Sacramento River Arm, the Bailey Cove Campground along the McCloud River Arm, and the Jones Valley campgrounds along the Pit River Arm.

When to go

The McCloud region offers activities year-round. Trout fishing season kicks off in the spring, when waterfalls are at their fullest. Wildflowers can be seen in spring and summer.
