How they look, where they are, the way you sleep and where you wake up is an altogether novel experience that we feel most people will enjoy. Toobs are serviced by a shared safari-style wash house with hot water shower and composting loo. Our block is on the Rails to Trails beside the Margaret River. Main Street and cafe strip are a short 10 minute forest walk away. We are popular with mountain bikers due to our close proximity (ride to trails) MR's MTB trails. Surfer's Point and Prevelly are 9kms away. We have laying hens, horses, a large and active Ring Tail possum tribe and vegetable garden. We had an amazing stay at Jarvis Estate Winery. The campsite sits right beside the vineyard, and waking up to rows of vines and soft morning light was honestly stunning. Our dogs absolutely loved it too – plenty of space to wander, sniff and explore, and the relaxed, open setting made it really easy to enjoy the weekend with them. We camped with friends, and the grassy sites were perfect for setting up our camper and outdoor area. There was loads of room, a really peaceful atmosphere, and beautiful trees offering shade. It never felt crowded, even with other campers around. The location is fantastic. We spent time in the Boranup Forest, and it was absolutely magical – towering karri trees, quiet trails, and that deep forest stillness you can’t help but soak in. Back at the winery, the wines were incredible. The staff were genuinely warm, friendly, and welcoming, creating such a relaxed experience. Tastings felt personal rather than rushed, and it was lovely enjoying a glass right where the grapes are grown. Overall, this spot is the perfect mix of nature, good wine, and easy, peaceful camping. Our friends loved it, our dogs loved it, and we can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended.

I’ve done a lap and a half of this country and this is one of my fav caravan parks. Spacious sites, on the river, great amenities, heaps of friendly wildlife, you can literally give a kangaroo and it’s Joey pat while the Joey is on the pouch. The bird mafia of ducks, parrots, magpies and kookaburras will raid you though so keep on eye on those sneaky little buggers. Staff were awesome. Recommend getting a powered site they are bigger and provide more sun if you need solar. Unpowered section is nice but under trees and pretty intimate with your neighbors.

Where to go

Wine Country

The Margaret River wine region stretches south from Dunsborough and through Yallingup and Margaret River to Augusta. Campground options range from simple unpowered sites to fully equipped holiday parks with swimming pools, all within an hour’s drive from Dunsborough. You can even enjoy a local farmstay, pitch your tent overlooking the vineyards, or park your motorhome among olive groves.

South West Coast

Just north of town, the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is the starting point of the 123-kilometre Cape to Cape Walk, which hugs the coastline all the way to Cape Leeuwin on the southern tip. You don’t have to hike to take in the highlights, which include swimming and surfing at the beaches, watching the sunset over Sugarloaf Rock, and Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, a popular spot to see Western Australia’s famous wildflowers.

Southern Forests and Valleys

Vast swathes of forests and woodlands blanket Australia’s southwest corner, where there are about 20 national parks and state forests to explore, many within a 2-hour drive from Dunsborough. Hikers can venture into the wilderness in the Greenbushes, Nannup, and Blackwood forests, where simple bush camping sites and bunkhouses welcome backpackers. Further south, Pemberton harbours popular sites such as the Yeagarup Sand Dunes and Beedelup Falls.

When to go

From September through May, the warm weather is tempered by coastal winds and ideal for hiking, camping, and outdoor activities near Dunsborough. The best scenery sprouts up in spring, when wildflowers blaze a colorful trail along the coast and whales can be seen out on the water. Winter weather is generally quite mild, although campers should be prepared for regular rain showers and for some campsite and caravan park closures.

Know before you go

Dunsborough has a number of grocery stores and camping gear shops, where you can stock up on supplies before heading out.
Having your own car is a big plus around Dunsborough, especially if you’re planning to explore the vineyards or visit the national parks.
Fire bans are common in Western Australia during summer and dry periods, so be sure to only use designated fire pits and check local recommendations before lighting your campfire.
