Set at the base of the mountains on a beautiful valley floor, located in wine country in the lower Hunter Valley, Cranky Rock gets its name from a 25 tonne sandstone rock that graces our home. The 120 acre working beef and horse farm is situated a scenic 2 hour drive North from Sydney or 1 hour East from Newcastle. Whether you chose to stay of one of our campsites or in our pioneer-style cottage, all visitor being awoken to the natural bush sounds of lyre birds and cooling their heels in the crystal creek at the bottom of the property. On your way in or out, be sure to check out the boutique village of Wollombi which is just 10 minutes from Cranky Rock, where you'll enjoy wine tasting, fresh produce and quaint cafes. Other must-see's in the area include the Olney State Forest and the Wattagan National Park.The property is located just off a scenic drive, over a 2wd accessible creek crossing. It is peaceful and secluded. Campers can used shared kitchen and bathroom facilities located at the top of the camp area. Dogs are welcome, but as it's a working farm, we ask the remain on leash at all times.

Mountain wilderness with rain forests and small creeks and springs from 350m to 800m, the property is off the Mt Royal arm from south side of the Barrington Tops. We have Km’s of walking, 4x4, cycle, motorcycle, side by side quad trails and if you like make your own. We have a main cabin with separate accommodation with off grid power with all the ammenities, also a Glamping style Pine Cabin with basic off grid and basic camping amenities. The property has numinous camping areas or if you like set up camp where you like. Dog friendly so long as the dog is to. There are minor logging activity during mid week in quarantine areas of the property, happy to guide and explain how that works. We are 45min from Singleton in the Hunter Valley, a scenic drive on tared road to the main gate, then you need a 4x4 from then on and 5 km to the property.

We also occasionally offer a camping site in our front paddock with a spectacular 80km view over the Hunter Valley. It is an ideal off-grid bush getaway for families and groups, offering peace and quiet, a mountainside of forest, enviable views and sunsets across the Hunter Valley and fresh mountain air. Most importantly, guests have exclusive use of our property in each area, so you don't have to share with other visitors. We are near Mount Royal National Park, adjoining the Barrington Tops wilderness area. The area is part of the World Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforest Reserves, a place of great scenic beauty and natural diversity. Best of all, it is quiet and away from the crowds. Whether you want an easy walk in nature and peace, an adventurous climb to see a breathtaking view, or are in training for an epic multi-day walk, Mount Royal National Park provides excellent bushwalking opportunities. Or, you can simply stay at camp and sit and relax!
