It has an abundance of birdlife including Kookaburras, Kingfishers, Blue Wrens, Cormorants and many types of water birds. The property is in a fantastic location to the Wangaratta township as it is only 1.5 kms drive into town to get all your supplies if required including, Aldi, Woolworths, Coles, Dan Murphys, Kmart, Camping Stores, Petrol Stations, Cinema, Bowling Alley and the wonderful choice of Hotels, Restaurants and Take away options if required. Mains water is available at the property to top up your Vans or Gerry cans should you need to replenish, so never run out of water 😊 It is surrounded by picturesque green countryside laden with ancient Red Rivergum Trees and billabongs with access to river frontage for fishing and the King River Site and White Cedar sites have a swimming hole for those hot summer days. The Secret Island site does have a swimming spot but not as safe for little ones. The river is ideal for swimming, floating and fishing. Choose either to relax with a book and a glass of wine and do nothing or go and explore the many attractions of the wonderful North East area including the beautiful King Valley, Beechworth, Bright, Yarrawonga and Rutherglen plus many other gorgeous areas that have Art Trails or Silo Art Trails, all of which are 30-60 minutes drive from the property. Billabong Flats Farm sites are very spacious with each section private from other Campers with a fire pit provided at the site plus an abundance of open area for recreation for kids and dogs to run around. The King River Site is an extra large riverside bush campsite that could accommodate a large group of Vans (10 at least). It has a designated fire pit and Campers will need to have own Toilet/Shower amenities and be and leave no trace behind when leaving us. Accessible for most types of vehicles. Dog friendly if well behaved and controlled and won't chase the Cattle. Campfires permitted when restrictions aren't in place, firewood for sale (see Extras). We are close to the region’s attractions including 15mins drive to Brown Brothers Winery in Milawa, many Lookouts and National Parks, Lake William Hovell, Restaurants, Wineries and Distilleries of this special area.

Our 25 acre Hipcamp area is located safely within our 300 acre property which enjoys approximately 5 kilometres of pristine and private Murray River frontage in the beautiful rural city of Albury. Willowbank is a fourth generation cattle farm and when you arrive at Willowbank you will feel like you are a million miles away from anywhere but you are only 2.8km from the centre of Albury and 2.9km to Wodonga from our sites . We are less than 5 minutes away from the beautiful South Albury cafe and boutique shopping precinct; Ebden & Olive, Nannina's, Meraki, Platform 9, South Albury Take Away, Di Billet, Almar Organics, Sukor Wellness & Recovery, The Red Devil Brewery, Tucker on Townsend, Chic to Chic and more. We are also only 3.5km from Harris Farm Markets. Albury's public Dump Point at Albury Railway Station is less than 5 minutes away. Each of our camping sites is well away from each of the others and there is plenty of room at each site for children to play. The two best sites for swimming are The River Bend and The Willows. We encourage the use of life jackets for children in the water at all time. We have no toilet or shower facilities at any of our sites so you are required to bring your own toilet with you. All waste must be removed at the end of your visit. With notice, we can arrange portaloo hire should you need, please enquire with us prior to booking. We have no access to drinking water and if you decide to use river water for drinking we do recommend that you boil the water. Swimming, floating, paddling in the Murray River is a sublime pastime. Please be aware though, that the Murray River has a very fast and strong current. Looking to hire a canoe, we recommend you contact Dave/ Murray River Canoe Hire (0417 691 339) for a canoe to paddle around your campsite or to do a beautiful canoe trip on the Murray River from Doctor's Point to Noreuil Park. It will take a few hours and yes you will go past your camp site! We do have an area to launch your motor or paddle boat or jet ski We are on the banks of the magnificent Murray River and all our three sites are absolute river frontage with uninterrupted views up, down and across the Murray River. Our Callaghan Creek unpowered campsite is large enough for a big group and has access to water and shade. We also offer a large farmhouse located across the creek from the campsite which we offer on Air BNB so if you plan a big getaway with friends and some are not keen campers then our guest house might be a perfect option. It is a short walk through a ford in the creek from the camp site. Mobile phone coverage is possible if you are with Telstra as there is a Telstra tower not far away. Our Callaghan Creek camp is in a secluded and very pretty spot on our farm. Access is via a dirt track across paddocks and down a short steep slope to the creek. Children are welcome but must be supervised at all times as farms can be dangerous places. There are large animals, snakes and deep water. Well-behaved dogs on a lead are allowed. All campers must have their own camping toilet and be self-contained.

Hunters Spread Farmstay is located in the Victorian High Country nestled in between Yackandandah and Myrtleford. The region offers towns and villages with history and heritage, galleries and museums, health, wellness and Spas, breweries, wineries, restaurants, cafes, Milawa Cheese Factory, lookouts and waterfalls, swimming, paddling, fishing, walking and hiking, horse riding, mountain biking and cycling. A great place to bring your horse to explore Hunters Spread bushland, Mt Big Ben, Mt Jack and Mt Buffalo national park. Whilst our horse yards are being built, we can offer a safe and secure laneway for your horses to be kept for $10 per horse per night. Waivers are in place and will need to be signed prior to any riding on the property. The farm offers a campsite with brand new accessible amenities including hot shower (limited). Firepits are permitted and wood will be provided (depending on fire restrictions in place at the time of booking). We welcome pets on leashes, but they must be under control at all times by owners and cleaned up after. We ask that you organise and confirm any animals coming to the farm prior to booking by message. The powered camp site can cater up to 50 people. $50.00 per person per night (except children under 10 years old). All persons under 18 years of age are to be supervised whilst on the farm. Alternatively, for people not wanting to camp out or those with caravans or RV’S we have a site in close proximity to a 20 x 9 mtr shed, powered with concrete slab. The powered shed site is $50.00 per person per night. Hunters Spread is approximately 3.5 hours from Melbourne. The farm is approximately 30 minutes drive to Beechworth, Bright and Lake Buffalo and about 50kms to Albury Wodonga. Please note that our summers are hot, and our winters are cold - so please pack accordingly.

Beautiful spot right on the river. Very private, lots of water birds and occasional fish jumping. There was even a little beach access into a calmer section of the river. I wish I would have been able to go for a kayak, some people passed by kayaking and occasionally a motor boat, but nothing too intrusive. The resident cows were very curious but very sweet and docile. I will definitely stay there again if I pass through that way.

Actually we had a choice of all Kerryn’s sites and chose the White Cedar. Such a lovely site beside a huge Cedar tree and the King River. Everything was set up. Wood for the open fire together with a grate for cooking, big logs for sitting around the open fire. Bird life was amazing, kookaburras sang night and morning. The solitude was terrific amazing as it was just a short distance from town. I walked my dog on the property and watched the kangaroos. There were even fish jumping in the river unfortunately we forgot our fishing rods. Our hosts were very friendly and wanted to make sure that we were aware of our surrounds and to stay safe. I would highly recommend BillaBong Flats farm it’s in such a beautiful part of Victoria.

Incredible place to stay, a real bonus having a toilet The most lovely host Ian. A fantastic flat super large area to set up. His property is a privilege to be allowed to stay. Wal has loved fishing in the river attempting to catch cod. He can see how big they are the water is so clear. Instead he has caught fresh crayfish. Our dogs have loved holidaying with many walks and swims. Very greatful for being allowed to bring them to Ian’s fantastic piece of paradise.

Where to go

Along the Murray River

The mighty Murray River—Australia’s longest river—flows along the border of NSW and Victoria. Cross over to explore Albury’s twin town, Wodonga, on the south shore, or head east to hike and camp in Woomargama National Park. Bird-watchers will find several destinations of note along the riverside, including the Chiltern National Park and the Wonga Wetlands, or you could take in the sights from the water on a paddle-steamer cruise or canoe excursion.

Around Lake Huma

Just east of Albury, the huge Huma Dam, and Lake Huma lie along the Murray River. Check into one of the lakeside resorts, pitch your tent along the waterfront, or try your luck fishing for Murray cod and rainbow trout. Walking and cycling trails circle the lake or take to the water for a boat cruise or kayak excursion.

Riverina

Albury lies on the southern edge of the Riverina, where sloping vineyards and fruit orchards line the lakes and waterways of the Murrumbidgee River. Enjoy swimming and water sports at the riverside beaches, visit towns like Wagga Wagga and Griffith, and stay at scenic riverfront camping grounds. This is the ideal region for a road trip, stopping to enjoy wine tasting and dine at country pubs along the way.

When to go

Albury’s distinct seasons mean many travelers choose to return again and again. Summer (December through February) is peak season and the best time for swimming and water sports—book your campsite well in advance as they can fill up quickly. The forest parks and valleys around Albury are ablaze with color come autumn, while winter visitors can escape to the Snowy Mountains ski resorts.
